It's heartbreaking to see the damage to such an area. Eastern KY has enough troubles with the poor and drugs. Now they are hit with flooding. It is such a beautiful part of the state. I hope more people visit and appreciate the good people.
I have not head Turtle man say anything. M McConnell come to mind All I can say Kentucky has a bad habit like New York if electing those who are not about working for Kentucky That’s how they keep it improvised and poor
@@josephinemiller5474 the appalachia’s have a terrible drug problem. they’re among the worst in the country. they have a mortality rate of over 40% in regards to drug overdoses, more than the rest of the nation. i grew up there, it’s really sad.
Sad to see so many residences built on the floodplain. Hoping something changes in the Kentucky building permit process that stops that. People deserve to be safe.
No offense Linda but you have no idea what you are talking about. Pretty much anywhere that a house can be placed or built in Eastern KY is in some sort of danger from flooding. Any tight mountainous region is like this.
I get so tired of seeing comments like this. Where do you expect people to live? When tornadoes hit somewhere they've never hit before, people say "why do people live there???". When an earthquake hits an area for the first time in 50 years, "how can people live there???". When a places that's NEVER seen this kind of flooding gets flooded, people say, "why would you live there?". This was the worst flooding in Eastern Kentucky history... do you get that? In the United States it's pretty much a "pick your disaster" when deciding where to live. The problem is not WHERE we live... the problem is HOW we live and climate change. Not to mention a lot of these places in Kentucky are properties that have been in these folk's families for generations... but you just want them all to pack up and leave because they should have known it would flood someday. Comments like yours just absolutely infuriate me. I pray you never have to live through a disaster (tornado, floods, mudslides, wildfires, earthquakes, hurricanes, blizzards, ice storms, severe drought)... and REALLY hope if you ever do, some smartass doesn't come by, shake their head and say, "gee it's your own fault for living there... why would you choose to live there???".
Years ago when my home flooded and I lost everything here in KY people just wanted to come see the damage while my house was under water and afterwards. NOT one person offered to help, just gawked, took pictures, and said " Bless Your Heart".
Father, We asked that you bless these residents to get to safety. We pray that You protect them from all harm. And save them from all life threatening situations. Those that are trapped, we pray that You make a safe way of escape. Father, dry up the land as You did with the Red Sea!....make a a way of escape for these people, and provide water and food for the, in Jesus' name. Amen.
seems like we can't have anything nice, it appears that living next to water is becoming a place NOT to be. Seems every rain storm is now producing floods...bad time to be living near flowing water or dry stream beds. Crazy how fast it happened, and some folks with no warning.
Looks like a couple of those folks front yard is the new road, I don't know how they could rebuild that road, that would cost more than the community can probably afford.
Moonshinefuel.. we survived before blacktop roads. To be quiet honest with all due respect, they maybe poor to you in material things, but they are the richest people at heart and faith. God will see them through. I know this because this is we’re I was raised. It’s not about affordability, it’s survival and they know to well what it takes.
As bad as this sounds There is only one good thing here At least it’s not winter Like it usually is when disaster hits May God please have mercy on these people
As far as clean ups go, there's nothing worse than flooding. And without power or AC in this high humid based area.Good Luck you'll need it and Insurance doesn't cover Floods.
I hope it's not but I am sure that a woman's body on the side of the river. Look to the right of the blue tarp on the river bank starting at 1:17 . It looks like she had her clothes stripped off by the waters. She has red hair.
I watched this over and over to see if I might be wrong, but I'm sure of it. Wish I had some way to know if she has been found. To help viewers spot her I'll put more details out. At about 1:05 the scene from the large debri pile at the top of the scene you'll see a blue tarp, or some thing blue, as the drone goes in in the direction of the tarp you'll see her pale white , red hair, legs crossed. It's on the side with the red roof house and red building. She goes out of scene at about 1:22. Still hope I'm wrong
Such a bad thing, Bless all those people. But, why are there so many houses, buildings and such, built so close to a waterway, creek, why???? Flooding is part of nature from time to time, even if those houses were built on stilts, it wouldn't stop the power of water. We see it so often, no more building permits so close to any kind of waterway, creeks, rivers and sometimes lakes. Water will flow where it wants to. Even the Mississippi river has a mind of it's own sometimes. Use to live by a creek, but was way, way up high on a hill away from it. Seen it when it was high and angry, dangerous. Please, whoever lives that close to a waterway, if it starts to rain around and or upstream, be prepared to leave immediately, don't hesitate, especially at night when it is hard to see the water coming up and out of the banks of that waterway. GOD SAVE US ALL.
very small creek that has never had this type of flooding. most of the water came from record rainfall running off the hills. this was climate change right in front of our eyes

I guess the elites of CA. need to stop building on the side of hills due to mudslides. And move because of wildfires. Maybe their code need to change.
