The fan vaulted ceiling is unsurpassed, a true wonder of architecture in self supporting stone vaults.
To comprehend its significance, this was envisaged in the early 1400s, built over 70 years and the stone roof weights it is estumated at 1870 TONNES, yet it has the look of a fine knittted doyle.
Hence the buttresses, or the walls would bow outwards and the whole things come down.
