@@liqidvenom People try to record the whole lap sometimes, but at speed it's nearly impossible, so why bother? Each to their own obviously, but just enjoy it.
Hot oil (and coolant) temps on the track is just sort of the natural state for the 3.2L VR6. I've got an oil cooler on my Mk4 R32 and still only get about 3-4 hot laps on a typical track before having to back off. I've thought about doing a water mister on the radiator/oil cooler. And yes, the VR6 has an a small oil/water heat exchanger which is part of the reason why coolant temps spike when oil temp does.
In the UK I can normally get around 6-8 hot laps but the day was hot. In the UK the car is normally on track in 12°-18° heat, but that day it was around 28°-34°.
@@fritzmueller1337 Ya I have an air/oil cooler. I added it same time I added a turbo so generating even more heat now. But even N/A (without the aftermarket cooler) it could overheat pretty quickly when pushing 10/10ths..

@@Simracingisgoated the point I'm making is about character, not reliability. Take the mk4 for example. At the upper end you got the 1.8T, the 2.3VR5, and the 2.8/3.2VR6. And now take the mk6. Gone are all the fun engine options, a 2.0 I4 is all thats left. I bought a blue 2008 VW R32 with DSG in 2011. I really loved the sound of that stock engine. For as long as I owned it, I had real shitty gas mileage because I was always doing hard accelerations. It was a beast in the snow and cruised effortlessly at highway speeds. I really loved that car, but i got rid of it in 2015 because it was starting to have rust issues that I didn't want to deal with. As my first AWD car, I was spoiled with its winter performance and decided to never go back to non AWD cars. My next car (and current car) is a gorgeous white 2010 Audi TTS with magnetic ride--a far superior car in almost every way. It's lighter, faster, less nose heavy so it handles better, but is a bit less practical in cargo room. I'm getting much better gas mileage mainly because the exhaust note is nothing special, and my driving style is now far more mature and civilized. As low as it is, it's even better in the snow than the R32 and has been reliable. I'll be driving it until the wheels fall off...but I sure do miss that Wookie howl from that VR6 in the R32--one of the best stock exhaust notes that I've ever heard.

Curious what duration cams. 40HP gain is probably a little optimistic for cams+remap on the VR6. Glad to see all the good supporting mods. Also weird seeing a manual MK5 R32 since they were DSG only in the US. Haldex remap/controller and rear diff could be nice to do next. Also oil cooler as Misha mentioned. On these cars there's a heat exchanger where radiator/water is used to cool oil. There's block offs for this to seperate the two loops if you end up getting a dedicated oil cooler.
