@@Kraziel797 Sometimes, on a warm summer night, when reading the list of ingredients, I'm filled with a feeling of joy and wonderment at all the different elements which coalesce into one amazing mouth watering experience.
Hey, man! Just saw your video! BEAUTIFUL work describing what makes this city so solid! If you want to check it out, I've recently made a music video on my channel showcasing some of the beauty of the world of Glass. And I plan to release a lot more of them in the near future! Let me know your thoughts! PS: Good news! No Man's Sky has a reason to explore, now!
@@ianmitchell5979 Thanks! Yeah, I'll definitely check it out when I get a chance and let you know what I think. PS: I know! I think it's great what they have done with the game. My comments in this video about No Man's Sky no longer apply.
There is something in the city of glass that evokes an a feeling of an utopian future, a future we'd all enjoy living in. The concrete, the glass, the cleanliness, all of that in conjunction with the clear blue sky and the little planes flying through the breathtaking high-risers, reaching for the sky. In stark contrast to that is of course the constant surveillance, the never ending feeling of being watched. But the running lets the runner compensate this negative side of the city of glass. Running is freedom, Parkour is art. Faith combines these two with an endless amount of endurance to enable the player to really dive into the feeling of unlimited freedom. This particular feeling I sometimes get when I visit skate parks in summer, especially when the sun burns down on the bare concrete that is smeared with graffiti and all sorts of things. To get back to topic, I recommend Dredd as a film source for a similar, yet dystopian example of good world-building in an urban environment. As a book that conveys similar feelings of an utopian future I recommend "The Year of the Flood" by Margaret Atwood. It contains different themes to the ones in Mirror's Edge, but captures a similar level of technology that is plausible to a great degree. I would love to see the city of glass making it to a film release that lives up to its very special vibe. Your remark to No man's skys hollow world is spot on btw. Overall a high-quality and well-made video, I appreciated the editorial work that went into it, subscribed!
Wow, thank you so much. Very well worded. I've never read The Year Of The Flood, but I'll definitely check it out. Thanks for the recommendation. I give props to Hello Games for sticking with No Man's Sky and adding so much content, but I personally have not jumped back in to check it out.

You are speaking out of my heart, you can't imagine how god it does to finally see someone who likes the game, and not because he is the fastest to complete but also becaue of this feeling Almost made me cry, and believe me, i am not a sentimental guy, but this game as no other really doesn wanna make you leave, doesnt get boring and everything seems so perfect I could write books about it, the architecture... The upcoming wishes to live in this city or even create parts of it as an architect lol, Its unique design... I’m happy to hear someone else speak so highly of this game’s open world. Although a lot of people are unhappy with it, I thought it made the most sense. It’s also so well done and running through the city is just so good. Hopefully, next Mirror’s Edge in 2024?
So I'm not the only one... Everyone once in a while, I find a game that connects with me on an unimaginably personal level. I think about those rooftops daily, and the surreal dream of running through them. It just feels so human. And the soundtrack...wow. I'd argue that the soundtrack connects with me more than the actual game. The music is bursting with dream-like qualities that I can't explain. I just sit back and take it in. Amazing video! High quality, fantastic transitions, and I can tell that you understand this surreal feeling as well :)
I found your video today-and it encompasses exactly how I feel about Night City in Cyberpunk 2077; it evokes the same feelings that Glass did for me back in Mirror's Edge. I feel as though I can simply lose myself exploring these two virtual worlds in a way that's simply not possible in the real world, at least not in dreary suburban-sprawl-dominated USA. The freedom to explore in these two worlds is just...endless
Catalyst's take on Glass is the best open world city I've known from all games. The aesthetics really reminds me of Singapore and Seoul, but with a tumblr style color palette
And the soundtrack is so unique and memorable. Just hearing the soundtrack makes me remember the good old days when i didn't need to care about anything else...
I really hope somebody shows the mirrors edge developers this video & it helps persuade them to make another game. Could you imagine how the city of glass would look on the new consoles!! And getting solar fields back to do the music once again is incredibly!! important because if the city of glass is a living breathing thing, than his music is the blood flowing through it's veins.
I know I've commented much earlier here, but I commented back when I only saw gameplays of ME:C, haven't bought it. Recently just finished the game, and the reason I played the game were just aesthetics, it was my photographer's eye that told me to buy it. Ocean Glass View (Ocean Pier and Regatta Bay) captivated me. Especially when the skies turn orange-purple, the entire scenery of the OGV reminds me of Qing Han/Qinniart's drawings, giving me a calm feeling of admiration. If only there was a way in which the KrugerSec enforcement doesn't exist in game, I would have a good time relaxing through the scenery of the city.
The City of Glass, Crystal Valley in particular, is stunning and unlike any real-life city. There's a lot not to desire about the future Catalyst portrays, but from an architecture perspective it's inspiring and could be a model for some incredible real buildings. I'd love to see features like the sharp use of colour and LEDs lighting ponds on rooftop terraces with sprawling views become common, although I imagine cleaning budgets will need to rise. My city is beautiful, I love living here, but it doesn't look like this.
YES YES YES!!! OMG I SO WANT A NEW MIRROR’S EDGE GAME. This city is just so special to my heart for some reason that I can’t explain. I replayed it 3 times and will do it again once I get my PS5!
Thank god I wasn't the only one that didn't feel like this game had the best city/ open world design. There's just something about the atmosphere in this game that just really makes me wish I actually live there. Most importantly, the color and simplistic, sci fi style of the city just makes everything so attractive. I honestly don't think there are any open world game out there that can top this game.
Well said! You're not alone. I feel this the very same way! The little spots, where the city is "hidden" and goes on it's own ways while we're discovering our own little adventures, as you described it, is for me, if I'm on the top highest spots, when the mist already covers the ground right below you, because of the height, if you can see the mountains around the city in the far. If you feel, you're out space over the city. You're all alone, no longer in it, but still connected through the immense high building you climbed on... I was shocked, when you told, the game's already six years old... It does still feel like at the first day... Want to discover everything again and again... Thanks for bringing me words for this!
The appeal for me is in the melancholy of it. It’s a beautiful utopian looking world, but the people and the hustle and bustle - the life - is always out of reach. You can catch glimpses of it when you’re wandering through apartments but you always exist just above it all. Sometimes you’ll see evidence of human activity like construction work, in impossibly high or remote places. I’ve always liked that kind of vibe. Lonely, reflective (literally). Just wondering what it would be like to carve out a life in a city like Glass. The world of 2049 gives me the same feeling too. There’s something kinda...sad about it. But I’d still love to find a little corner of it to call my own.
I feel the same about the game! It inspired me to acomodate my room in a similar, clean and organized way. Bought white furniture and orginized it in a way that it gives off that Mirrors Edge Catalyst modern vibe (Brimnes from Ikea). I also bought Nanoleafs, actually being the key stone to making it feel like Glass City. If I'm not living in a world such as the game's, might as well make my own space like it. I keep taking pictures of my room very so often as It keeps improving. Feels inspiring and very blessed to live in such manner. What an excellent game😎👌 Feel very confortable in my room during COVID-19 quarantine as one can Imagine, not that I'm flexing about it. I'm also stacked with a bunch of Toilet paper. Kidding! Lol 4-16-2020
Would you happen to have any photos that I can see? Only issue with me is affording everything lol but I love looking at photos. I can’t really put my words correctly In googles search engine it seems like. Only thing I can use as reference or inspiration is finding concept art from the game
I dunno if you're still checking comments but I absolutely love your voice dude. If you ever get the chance you should continue your youtube career after all this time, and maybe even pursue voice acting. Like you lowkey kinda sound like male V from Cyberpunk 2077
Hey, I haven’t check comments in a while, but thank you for saying that. I haven’t really had time for new videos, but I’d like to get back into it if I can work it back into my schedule. Comments like this mean a lot to me.
I got to talk to solar fields once back in like 2011 or 12. I told him I was studying architecture and I listen to his music when drawing. It was cool.
I thank UA-cam for the great video recommendation. The game is like no other, I'm telling you, it's so unique in it's very own way! My journey with the game begun with getting the theme on my ps4, it was free and it looked cool so I applied it, the moment I did that I simply stared at the beauty of the scenery combined with the music that I still listen to til this day.. Some time passed until I had gotten the actual game and could finally experience the true beauty of this masterpiece, the moment I got the hang of the controls is when I really started having fun. Jumping from rooftop to another, kicking people while running, and climbing to the very top of a high place only to reward myself with the joy of looking at beautiful buildings. I could keep going lol, so many different feelings that no other thing in the world could make me feel the same.. a hidden gem.
I just watched another video nit picking at the game from another perspective- I'm doing a level design study, so to speak. I side with your perspective myself, and love the design as a sandbox/playground. The game lacks in the functional and competitive intuitive departments but made the most lovely fun traversal game space. I do parkour in real life and not a day goes by where I don't wish I could exist in the atmosphere evoked by this game. This is one of very few games that portray freedom and exploration on the realist human progressive level, where knowledge is the best tool (like knowing your routes) and then executing the most efficient way to do that (via challenging yourself). This game's level design teaches the pursuit for knowledge, ability, and progress all through an art form.
It's interesting to get the perspective of someone who actually does parkour. I don't do it myself, but something tells me that the development team put a lot of care into getting it right. I too wish I could exist in the atmosphere evoked by this game, but hey, at least we got the game. I think it would be a great atmosphere/setting for a VR game, but I'm not sure how well the parkour elements would work.
Great video, well said, I thought I was the only one who loved the city of Glass as much as you do. It captures that dystopian futuristic city scape so perfectly. Free running at night in the city of Glass is unbeatable. Absolutely loved Catalyst overall.
This game made my anxiety and depression diminish .The soundtrack was relaxing and welcoming with hope coupled that with amazing gameplay, graphics and the design of it all , brings a peak into what the future might look like and its alright :')
Awesome analysis! After 500 hours there is still stuff to find around the city. It's very relaxing game and makes you forget worries. It just immerses you into this hyper reality.
I just discovered your channel today and I've almost watched every one of your videos. But I always come back to this one. You managed to create something so evocative and touching, it's really speaking out on how much passion you feel for this game. And it's infectious. Keep working on your videos. With this one in particular you remind me of other great essayists on this platform such as Jacob Geller. I'll be following your progress, and I hope one day I'll have the courage to create an essay of this caliber of my own.
Thanks so much for the kind words. I have another video in the works, but I’m not exactly sure when it’ll be finished. Hopefully not too long. I understand the hesitation to put yourself out there, but you should definitely do it if it’s something you keep thinking about. Don’t worry about what others think. Just do you. I was hesitant to start, but I’m glad I did. Besides, you can always hide behind a brand like I do 😀
I finished the game back in 2016 when it first came out, since I was a huge fan of the first one. Yet once i finished it, I sold it immediately. I don't know what got to me this year but I bought it again, only this time I was interested in analyzing what was it in this game that compelled me to buy it back. The crazy thing is, I find the story rather simple and the mechanics a bit dull and weird (like the roll after slide movement just makes me wanna puke). However, I found that small details like the dress code of certain factions, and seeing how fashion played such a big role in attracting my curiosity. It can only be said that this game, although it isn't even noticed when comparing it with it's competitors, really did an astonishing job in the aesthetic design part. I know I stepped into the comment section rather late, but if anyone sees this let me know what you think, if there are any parts of the graphics, architecture, tools, whatever thing that attracted your curiosity. Cheers
Recently played this game called Gris. The pastel color palette and artstyle gave the same bliss The City of Glass gives from their pastel color palettes and architecture.
I recently played Gris. Some of the best artwork I’ve seen in a game. The game as a whole didn’t do much for me though. I’m gonna play through it again.
Everything you say in this video is how I feel about the ORIGINAL Mirror's Edge. I have to disagree about Catalyst's city being "Futuristic but not too crazy" and "Rooted in reality". Take any screenshot from the first game and desaturate it so it's black & white, it looks like a normal city! Like a mix between Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and a dash of Seattle. But in Catalyst? It doesn't look like ANY existing city. It looks like an architecture student's fever dream. It looks like where the Jetsons might live... And there's nothing wrong with that of course. I love Sci-Fi, I love to explore worlds that are really "Out There"...But to me, a big part of the first game's unique atmosphere is how it manages to be both familiar AND alien at the same time. Catalyst manages the latter, not the former. Another part of the atmosphere is the music, and on that front, Catalyst is just as good. Solar Fields is back and so is his delightful brand of sci-fi ambience!
When I said futuristic but rooted in reality I wasn’t trying to say it was similar to an existing city so much as I could see cities in the nearish future developing to look like Glass. That the city seems possible with our current understanding of physics. No floating buildings or mile deep canyons of buildings. It’s a realistic direction future cities could take, and some cities, like Dubai, already are. An architecture student’s fever dream seems pretty accurate haha but I think I like that honestly. I never played the first game, but I do want to get around to it. Most people enjoyed the first much more it seems, but since I went straight to Catalyst I didn’t experience the same disappointment most felt going from 1 to 2.
Just goes to show how much amazing wonders to see in the Anime Video Game Universe regardless of its just Earth, or any other world within the universe. Glass is no exception and gives a small but very significant portion of it all.
Great video Inward, this video couldn't have been easy to write out! While I prefer the original Mirror's Edge game much more than Catalyst, I cannot deny the amazing and beautiful city of Glass in Mirror's Edge Catalyst.
Thanks! Yeah, the first game seems to be heavily favored over the second, but free roaming around Catalyst just fills me with a certain joy. Thanks for watching!
Inward Games VR isn't ready yet trust me I own the Oculus and PS VR developers aren't taking it seriously . Maybe once GPU's get cheaper but with cryptocurrency utilizing graphics cards I doubt that....
Te mereces mas suscriptores mirror edge fue mi infacia lo recuerdo ese dia en el cyber wow como cambian las cosas dios desearia volver al año 2008! 😪😭 gracias por este video 🙄
one thing i don't like about this game's glass (especially compared to the first game) is that it's a lot harder to imagine people working and living in glass. some areas literally are just rooms with weirdly placed/clipping cubes; it takes away immersion if anything
every time I play, I really want to disconnect from this world and live in "glazs city", I'm still waiting for a sequel to this amazing and beautiful game, with current technology they can make a game with many more things to do and more life
yea, Catalyst partly recreates that atmosphere but imho it lacks much of the original Mirror's Edge had. Dont't know how to express it more precisely, but the first game had some kind of magic in it. Back in 2008 it was smth new, an unusual experience. And all those clean designs of the city, the sun, light like filled with air music by Solar Fields(he's a composer of the new game as well) they created such a strong immersion. At least for me. Some animations of Fate's movements such as wind threads when you pick up speed, wallruns and jumps were better in the original. All of those gave the feeling of kinda nonstop flow. Maybe it's just me, but Catalyst lost many of these and can"t offer a new level of that experience except the openworld city. To be fair I cought a bit of that cool atmosphere during the last mission in the Shard. Insane hight, wind turbins, free falls, sun with the blue sky - that was smth close to that feeling. But I wish there were more of such moments and not only the last 20 minutes. At least some more high poits to observe the city where you can reach without bugs. The other bad thing were the same pathways between story mission points. I ran them 10 or 20 times and this sucked. Level design could be mcuh better. And again the original game didn't have such problem of backtracking. Besides it looks still good in 2019. Anyway thanks for sharing.
I think the fact that I played Catalyst first helped me appreciate it more. The general consensus is that the original is better, and a lot of people were let down by Catalyst. Can't be let down though if you're not expecting much or comparing it to the original. I'm in the middle of playing the first game now. I may even make a video about that one eventually.
I started playing ME:C at the beginning of the covid pandemic and I'm still playing it. I see ME:C just more than Parkour game. I see it more like you do. I overthink alot about Glass and have that strange feeling in me when playing this game. And although this game is like 4 years old it deserves more attention. EA treats this Prequel from the original Mirror's Edge like "Yeah, this game hardly hit our expectations" and just wanted to make much money from this game, but they don't see what a beauty of a game they just created. That is going to be the reason why we will probably never see a new Mirror's Edge game or a Sequel to the original game. And that makes me sad. I just wish some other company would buy the rights for Mirror's Edge off from EA and treat the game how it should be treated.I also had plans to make a Mirror's Edge game on my own but that would be too much for me. Sorry for my bad english tho I'm from germany but I hope someone out there sees this and feels the same way about this as I do.
I can't see EA letting go of the IP, so we have to just hope that they decide to bring it back someday. I don't think that day will be anytime soon unfortunately. Glad others enjoy the game as much as me though, and from all over the world! Your English is very good! No need for apologies.
I feel like I'm the only one who liked the slightly less futuristic vibe of the original better. A lot of the places in that game (especially the interior parts) remind me a lot of the idea of liminal spaces, and there was this amazing sense of isolation in the middle of this huge city that's really difficult to put into words but has stuck in my head ever since I first played the demo back in 2008.
I gotta say, I felt almost the same way when I played this game! I would listen to different styles of electronic music when playing it, adds to the vibe too.
*I refer to the city as Mirror throughout the video, but the city's name is in fact Glass.*

I listen to the soundtrack almost daily whenever I go running, I absolutely love everything a out the atmosphere of the game
You exactly described how I've felt about the game since it came out! Thank you for refreshing the memory :)
I don’t care if it’s technically classifies as a dystopia. I want to live there
Haha, I'm with ya there.
Hah, there are many of us. Who'd have thought? =) The Solar Fields OST brings it all together beautifully. Great video!!
This video explains how we all feel, it's hard to explain but you explain it so well!!!
Catalyst has some of the feelings you describe, but the game that give most of these feels is the first Mirror's Edge.
That’s awesome. I always love stories of people I’m a fan of being down to earth and cool.
Peaceful game🥺it' feels like heaven....
Paradise, but the society itself is totalitarian.
To this game I feel like you.
Great video, well said, I thought I was the only one who loved the city of Glass as much as you do. It captures that dystopian futuristic city scape so perfectly. Free running at night in the city of Glass is unbeatable. Absolutely loved Catalyst overall.
This game made my anxiety and depression diminish .The soundtrack was relaxing and welcoming with hope coupled that with amazing gameplay, graphics and the design of it all , brings a peak into what the future might look like and its alright :')
so glad i found someone who feels the same way about this game as me
might make my own video essay who knows
Glad you liked it! Yeah, go for it if you have something you wanna say. This was my first video. Just had to get the thoughts out of my head some how.
We can't explain the extreme feel when we complete this game.. it make me cry
3:04 that’s why the cyberpunk genre is and one of the reasons it’s the best. Very well done vid.🔥
Awesome analysis! After 500 hours there is still stuff to find around the city. It's very relaxing game and makes you forget worries. It just immerses you into this hyper reality.
The design of the city, the style of the room and space
I would love to lived in that city, heck i want our future to look like that
I just discovered your channel today and I've almost watched every one of your videos.
Besides, you can always hide behind a brand like I do 😀
@@InwardGames I'll be sure to watch your next video then! It's always nice to see new talent on the platform!
Cheers
Amazing video dude :D
I feel the same about the city, Is just magnificent the way they created this city with so much personality
thank you, i hoped not to be the only one to have this feeling
great video, perfectly described how i feel abt this game
Recently played this game called Gris. The pastel color palette and artstyle gave the same bliss The City of Glass gives from their pastel color palettes and architecture.
I recently played Gris. Some of the best artwork I’ve seen in a game. The game as a whole didn’t do much for me though. I’m gonna play through it again.
@@InwardGames oh hey you're back! There's some hidden achievement that make the game feel more complete.
@@TheIndogamer Yeah? I'll have to look for them when I go through it again. Thanks for the heads up.
This game is a living dream and it heals your soul.
you perfectly described my feelings, bravo
Everything you say in this video is how I feel about the ORIGINAL Mirror's Edge.
I have to disagree about Catalyst's city being "Futuristic but not too crazy" and "Rooted in reality".
Take any screenshot from the first game and desaturate it so it's black & white, it looks like a normal city!
Like a mix between Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and a dash of Seattle. But in Catalyst? It doesn't look like ANY existing city.
It looks like an architecture student's fever dream. It looks like where the Jetsons might live... And there's nothing wrong
with that of course. I love Sci-Fi, I love to explore worlds that are really "Out There"...But to me, a big part of the first game's
unique atmosphere is how it manages to be both familiar AND alien at the same time.
I love the bay of the city, it's so very pretty at night
Just goes to show how much amazing wonders to see in the Anime Video Game Universe regardless of its just Earth, or any other world within the universe. Glass is no exception and gives a small but very significant portion of it all.
One of my favorite games.
I wish LA and San Fran look like this city
I can't believe you have only 91 subscribers! The quality of this video is amazing dude, keep up the good work
This is not a Game, it's NIRVANA 😭😭😭❤️
What a brilliant effort mate!
Thanks!
Would you live in Glass if it’s real?
Aesthetically speaking, 100%. I’ll pass on the dystopian conglomerate surveillance state though.
So beautiful💜 i hope our future is like this
I completely agree with everything you said. I feel the same way about Skyrim 😎
Thanks! Skyrim is amazing although its been awhile since I've played it. I wanna get my hands on Skyrim VR one of these days.
Inward Games VR isn't ready yet trust me I own the Oculus and PS VR developers aren't taking it seriously . Maybe once GPU's get cheaper but with cryptocurrency utilizing graphics cards I doubt that....
I highly recommend turning runner vision off, always. Makes for a far more immersive experience.
Wonderful video mate, appreciate it
that no man's sky analogy didn't aged so well now that mirror's edge is ded nas NMS is still getting content
Very true. What Hello Games did with No Mans Sky is amazing, and that part of my video no longer applies.
Te mereces mas suscriptores mirror edge fue mi infacia lo recuerdo ese dia en el cyber wow como cambian las cosas dios desearia volver al año 2008! 😪😭 gracias por este video 🙄
Very underrated channel :/
Such a beautiful game🥰🥰🥰 i love it 🤗🤗🤗
👏👏 there is something beautiful about it
one thing i don't like about this game's glass (especially compared to the first game) is that it's a lot harder to imagine people working and living in glass. some areas literally are just rooms with weirdly placed/clipping cubes; it takes away immersion if anything
I love this city man.. I’m trying to recreate parts of it
every time I play, I really want to disconnect from this world and live in "glazs city", I'm still waiting for a sequel to this amazing and beautiful game, with current technology they can make a game with many more things to do and more life
yea, Catalyst partly recreates that atmosphere but imho it lacks much of the original Mirror's Edge had.
@@InwardGames that' ll be interesting :)
We’re autistic, that’s why we like it. It’s clean, simple in geometries so they can add more photorealistic reflections I think.
No need for apologies.
fucking poetry mate. love it just like you do. cheers.
Thank you for this video
True since I like ME1 and I started to like this game the city is wonderful which not bad but hey the characters also not bad too.
I agree a lot
I to feel the vibe of it
great video! :)
goated video
Wold the city fell the same way, if you could explore the whole fucking island
I feel like I'm the only one who liked the slightly less futuristic vibe of the original better. A lot of the places in that game (especially the interior parts) remind me a lot of the idea of liminal spaces, and there was this amazing sense of isolation in the middle of this huge city that's really difficult to put into words but has stuck in my head ever since I first played the demo back in 2008.
I gotta say, I felt almost the same way when I played this game! I would listen to different styles of electronic music when playing it, adds to the vibe too.
I'll make this world a Reality 😭😭😭😭
Stop cutting Onions, BRUH 😭😭😭😭
Vibe of Morrors edge 2008?
you compare Catalyst a game made by 100+ people to NMS a game made by 10 lmao
Awesome video! You put my feelings into words! Whats the song called?
It's Catalyst from the game's original soundtrack by Solar Fields.
