I had only watched Michael Kitchen in Foyle's War before watching this. His voice is about the same here as in Foyle's War, but he looks so much younger. I'm surprised a man of his great acting talent didn't get a lot more parts over the years. He was in Out of Africa, but I saw that film when it came out in the 1980's but don't remember Kitchen at all, only Robert Redford and Meryl Streep.
Give Out of Africa another look. Kitchen plays Berkeley Cole a buddy of Denys Finch Hatton, the Redford character. He fights with a gang of English settlers and Masai against the Germans. Again a real person. He is so good, will break your heart.
Michael kitchen is also an amazing musician himself. He plays guitar and I'm not sure what all else. I've also read that he was a quite prominent boy soprano in his diocese and was given a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA), through the city council of the town he grew up in, Leicester I believe
Michael Kitchen could read a recipe for tripe and it would sound divine. That aside, the letters are fascinating.

He has been acting much over one hundred different parts during fifty years.

He has had many parts and has always been great. You have missed a lot if you haven't seen more of him.
