Hi Dawn, your video popped up out of the blue. I was brought upon a smallholding in lincolnshire, and can remember my parents working hard to keep things going
. Muddy crewyards dry cracked clay in summer, with mum carrying heavy buckets of water 200 yards to the sheep until they got a hose system sorted. My wife sadly died just before I retired so all our lifelong plans evaporated. I now live alone in a village, and am almost self sufficient in vegetables, seversl raised beds, 2 greenhouses, solar panels 10+ water butts. But its a constant battle against the weather- whatever people think, like one of your comments they are definately modifying it. I had a heart attack last year, which slowed me down a lot, but listening to your story helped me realise so many are going through tough times. You are so resilient in the circumstances. Fingers crossed for better weather it would make us all feel better.

Absolutely, I think not too many people understand how fragile food systems are when everything comes from the supermarket. I hope it all works out and you are able to get on top of it all. Kia kaha

Hi Dawn. Tracy told me you'd been having a bit of a rough time. We are hopefully getting over what has been a bad time for us since last summer. The weather was so bad that we ended up making haylage, not hay, because of the wet weather we had so the sheep are eating it but it is not the best quality. We have this year had bth joint ill and lice in the sheep, as have a lot of other farms in the area. Other farmer's sheep have jumped over some of our fencing and given a couple of our flock Orf but we have thankfully not had to deal with that too long. With the continuous wet weather the fields are soooo muddy and water logged so hard for the quad to use in places. We also have Jon's mum and brother living with us until our new plan starts to come into effect......which is that towards the end of May last year we decided that in 2028 we will have sold the farm, the house, sorted our boys out then we will be heading off travelling around europe for as long as we are able whilst we are fit to do so. We plan on enjoying our life instead of spending the rest of our days working all the hours; we want to enjoy our time together and not have to worry about anything which is what farming is constantly. I hope things improve for you.

There's an old saying, It never rains, that it pours. I sure feel for you. We have been getting one hit after another here too. We have to keep traps everywhere because the darn mink will wipeout our hens in a very short time. Last hit they took out 28 hens within a week. We got them (2 males) but not before a bad loss. we lost the pastures where our small beef herd was so now we are building pasture but have to feed hay while it grows grass,. I paid so much money for these darn crowns on my front teeth and now I am losing one right in the front. The sacrifices you are making for your extended family are admirable. It is such a huge adjustment. God Bless you and give you the strength for the road ahead. Sending love from the USA. (Yes, I was in the totality for the eclipse)

So sorry to hear the stuff you’re all going through Dawn. I hope the trees pick up too and you were unscathed yesterday. The wind here was relentless, ongoing all night and now too

I know exactly where you’re coming from as I was in a similar position with my mum. However you’re double and I’m so saddened to watch your video.
I get the frustration, exhaustion, out of control.
I had it for 6 years but the last 15 months of my mum’s life was a downward spiral.
Now it’s sorting out her estate and belongings, the latter being the most frustrating of how much there is to clear.
I wish you all the strength Dawn to get through this phase.

Oh my goodness It’s heartbreaking to hear of the position you and your family are in. I’m sure you do feel broken, it’s been a very difficult time for you. The weather has been atrocious here in England too and I wish everyone could understand how difficult it is for farmers here in the UK. I hope so very much that things will improve very soon. WoW your citrus fruit trees were a bargain… let’s hope this is the start of a turn around for the better. Take care xx

It's getting very windy here in North shropshire. I'm squeezing water out of the soil as it's so wet. I hope you don't have any damage with this storm. It's always so devastating when livestock is lost. Take care and stay safe.

Weather manipulation has to be stopped , we need the sun , everything living needs the sun. Blaming Climate change is perposterous ,. We are at solar maximum , which does bring in a lot of storms but inbetween we have this warfare using weather and its doing huge harms now. If they are allowed to carry on , we all face food poverty,
