I totally agree with you bro. Some days I just pick up a pen, open up my sketchbook prepared to draw, but then I close my sketchbook and drop my pen. Sometimes it’s just better to take a breather, and just chill. I think that some people just get overwhelmed thinking they need to draw everyday and hit that grind.
Cleaning and reorganizing your physical space is an underrated way to recharge. It can help the mind get unstuck by bringing it back to the positive feedback of tangible problem solving, as opposed to the ephemeral mental problem solving of concepts that haven't yet taken form outside of the mind through art or whatever. I may want to organize the fridge, but first I have to clear the drawers and shelves within it. Then I can decide if I should take the opportunity to clean before I organize. Solving problems one. Step. At. A. Time.
I have the complete opposite problem, I can't start drawing, and I'm not too sure I should be blaming everything on ADHD. I know what I want to draw, but I just can't, and I'd say it's a shame too.
You should check out Daniel Warren. He does live streams on fridays. Dude just ATTACKS the page. Might help your process seeing how he works. It definitely helped me!
I was so happy when I heard you bring up active rest, I listen to a lot of exercise science stuff while drawing and working out. There is so much we can learn from other disciplines!
i had this problem with music. it’s been a year and i’ve been drawing to find another creative outlet. Getting to a point where i miss playing out but not quite ready yet. it’s great to walk away sometimes.
Yeah… Its too easy to get into the mindset that “you and your life is the art you make or are making”. So easy in fact, I do it all the time and don’t even notice. Usually it’ll turn into a forced hiatus, and i’ll come back drawing better…
I havent watched past 30 seconds yet but if u are reading this and you are struggling with "art block" but u really care about art you arent going to see a difference in your overall skill level from just one day of not drawing or thinking of drawing so just take a break and you will be able to draw again when u get over your current mindset and you wont regret taking a break
When I saw your thumbnail I got scared. I just started drawing anime total beginner. So I said I want to check out your video maybe there is truth to this. End result: Glad I clicked, life really does get in the way. But if we pass that and allow ourselves to recharge while making art. Eventually something amazing happens. But we gotta keep going.
If there's any advice I could go back in time and give myself, it'd be to stop drawing anime and draw from life. Anime is a style, and a style comes from manipulating fundamentals, and to manipulate fundamentals you must first master them. U got this 👌👌
I have no reasons, and these are reasons enough to draw. Not everything needs a why and if it does I have a serious psychological problem (one more psychological problem)
I disagree. Just like vampires if they don’t drink blood every day, they start developing flu like symptoms. In my case, if I don’t make art every day, I started developing flu like symptoms. My mind and my body are meant to make art. It’s my purpose in life.

I definitely agree with actively consuming media. Lately I’ve been reading some good comics and I can definitely see the inspiration in my work.

Honestly, same exact situation here. The lack of motivation, and the frustration that comes with forcing myself to draw makes it very difficult.
It is like moving a mountain, but immediately putting a thoughtless mark on a page can help making more marks.
Sameeee

I have been having an art block since birth 😢. Should I start a life from scratch ?
That mobile phone making the "I" though, what a clever thumbnail

I think he uses a TWSBI Eco fountain pen for the black ink, and a platinum preppy for the red ink. I don’t know what inks he’s using, though

Also, Picasso said that he did not believe in inspiration, but if inspiration ever found him it would find him working
