All of my friend group really liked it. I watched a bunch of spoiler reviews. They begged me to read it, so I did. But bc I already knew that it was bad, I didn’t hate it so much. The second one was even worse. None of my friends enjoyed Iron Flame.

Happy Place was my disappointment of the year. I loved People We Meet on Vacation and thought Book Lovers was meh but enjoyable. I found Happy Place to be almost impossible to finish, though.
Another small disappointment was Same Time Next Summer. I didn’t hate this book, but I remember really disliking the main character basically cheating on her partner, and I don’t remember why but I know I hated the flashback scenes for some reason. Disappointing, compared to her first book.
I didn’t hate Do I Know You?, but it’s definitely not remarkable enough to recommend to a friend.

Happy Place was by far my biggest disappointment of the year. Not only did I just not care of the main characters, I literally wanted to rage DNF the book very early on in the book. If I hadn’t been listening to it via audiobook from my library, I probably would have. As a second year general surgery resident who also works long hours and is rarely home and usually exhausted and emotionally drained when I am home, I really hated the discussions around Harriet and Wyn’s relationship issues and I disagreed with and hated the ending.

Hello Stranger was also not my favorite! I haven’t read The Bodyguard though so I’m willing to give Katherine Center another chance since I’ve heard good things about it from several people. I’m a new subscriber to your channel and loving your candor!!

I had alot of reads that disappointed me this year unfortunately. Highest Bidder by Sara Cate (It wasn't bad but compared the rest of the spc series it wasn't it), King Of Pride by Ana Huang (Usually Ana's characters have alot of depth but these 2 were basic and boring af) and probably my biggest disappointment of the entire year was The Long Game by Elena Armas (I hyped this book up so much and it was a major flop and I ended up dnfing)

I share your thoughts on Do I Know You? I figured after the Roughest Draft, this marriage in trouble story could be even better if the authors managed to capture the struggle of having fallen out of like, or having lost the spark and how the couple should communicate to get it back, but it felt like they just had them stick their heads in the sand and ignore their problems for majority of the plot. It was very underwhelming and disappointing to me too 😢

I haven’t read any of these but I think my most disappointing read this year was Two Wrongs Make a Right by Chloe Liese which I was loooving, and was ready to rate it 5/5 stars UNTIL the third act conflict hit, and that bumped it down to 3 for me. Hate when authors make their characters do complete 180s just for the sake of a conflict like please for once think of something more creative

I also didn't like the third act conflict, everything was going so smoothly until that point. But despite that it's still one of my favorite reads and a cute story. Have you read the second book?

I read a free sample of Hello Stranger and just from that I knew it wasn't going to good. But then I saw people raving about it online but I just my gut feeling

5:43 Did you mean Abby Jimenez for “Part of your world” ? I think you might have automatically said Katherine Center after Hello Stranger 😅

I was also super disappointed by Elizabeth O'Roark's books this year. Hopeful she'll get back into her groove this year because she was one of my favorite authors you've introduced me to!
Personally I was really disappointed by Happy Place, not because it was bad but because I firmly believed they shouldn't have gotten back together at the end of the book. I truly believe it would have been five stars for me if it was lit fic and not romance.

on the topic of dragons, please read the night of fallen day (the same story world as the priory of the orange tree) it’s high fantasy, the love stories are beautiful (there are multiple!) and it’s high fantasy to the core! i want to hear what you’d say to this book, im 60% through it and i love it so far

Listen, Fireborne (the Aurelian cycle) did everything Fireborne tried to do.
The Aurelian cycle is a perfect trilogy, it’s honestly such a phenomenal read. Watching fourth Wing get so much hype when it lowkey ripped off the premise of Fireborne is SO frustrating.

I don't get the hype over The Forth wing. My disappointment was Divine Rivals. The plot sounded so interesting - Gods, war, journalism, magical typewritters...
And book turned out... boring and even stupid (specially last chapters when it was all about 2 boring characters who barely just got together, getting married. All that romance was weak itself - few very mehh letters, few days together and suddenly you love him and need to marry him? Seriously?).

I found Lex Croucher's first book (Reputation) to be extremely disappointing -- every high school drama trope thrown at the wall to see what sticks. Awkward girl tries to fit in with the cool kids, ends up shunning the one genuine friend in her orbit. Throw in drug use, sex, SA, sneaking out under false pretenses -- I'm sure I am missing a few teen tropes here. It was so predictable that it pretty much wrote itself. I had been waiting like a year for the book to be released in the States, and it was such a let down I have no interest in even trying her other books. Which is saying a lot, because I can't think of many authors that have left me that uninterested.

Fourth Wing was a 3.5 for me. I didn't love it but found it entertaining. I suffer from EDS and get fighting with your body to get it to do things that everyone else takes for granted. The main character also suffers from something very similar to EDS and her joints dislocating and the frustration she had with that kept me interested. I personally don't see her as weak since she got back up everytime her body failed her but to each their own.

I really didn’t like The Summer I Saved You.
    *SPOILERS*
I was so frustrated with the fact I was supposed to be rooting for a couple that, for 95% of the book, WERE MARRIED TO OTHER PEOPLE. Divorcing your abusive husband? Fantastic. Divorcing your drug addicted wife. Wonderful. I sympathize with both of these characters. But I can’t understand why people can’t wait for their divorce to be final to get involved with other people. Very disappointing book.
