Sometimes I hear the name Danny Boyle for the first time ever and realize he gave me one of my favorite Zombie films of all time... but I'll forget his name again like 4 days.
Not really a bonus thing, so much as a quickly glossed over thing that I feel deserved it's own point: 28 Days later was so low budget it couldn't be filmed on 35mm and had to be shot digitally. And though most movies are shot digitally now days, remember this was 2002, so were not talking 4K RED cameras here, were talking _standard definition _*_360P_*_ digital tape camcorders_ baby! Probably about the same resolution as 2006 era UA-cam. Literally the camera on your camera on your smartphone is probably 10 times the image quality. In other words, this movie was *filmed on a potato*. Fortunately the potato look worked stylistically with the apocalyptic tone of the movie. The only scene shot on high quality 35mm was the ending where FOX gave them more money. This was done to give the ending a cleaner, more optimistic look.
Woo!! 28 Days Later is easily one of my favourite films in the world. Despite how many times I have watched it, I always feel like I notice something new, I just think it's been masterfully made.
Bonus fact: To save money and maintain order, the production would only close the streets of London for 45 minutes at a time to get the shots that they needed. Bonus bonus fact: Because they only had 45 minutes to prepare each shot, the film was mostly shot on a Canon XL1 camcorder as opposed to a more complicated film camera.
Danny Boyle was was heavily inspired by the album, F♯ A♯ ∞ by Godspeed You! Black Emperor, in the making of 28 Days Later. He said in an interview, "I always try to have a soundtrack in my mind [when creating a film]. Like when we did Trainspotting, it was Underworld. For me, the soundtrack to 28 Days Later was Godspeed. The whole film was cut to Godspeed in my head." The song East Hastings is playing in the film when Cillian Murphy is wandering the empty streets of London.
I would love a second episode on 28 Days Later cause I already knew all of these. I watch the movie almost every year for Halloween in a double feature with The Thing (1982 version); the best horror movies ever put to celluloid.
Case there might have been if the plot of the 2nd was a little better, the whole part where everyone crams into one large room with no lights and one zombie gets in through a back unlocked and unguarded door seemed unrealistic and rushed and ruined it for a lot of ppl myself included :/
For the past several years I’ve watched 28 Days Later for my Halloween tradition. Even with parties and trick or treating when I was younger I always made it happen. It’s really awesome seeing my favorite horror movie get listed
This is definitely my favorite "zombie" movie. I don't mind there is only one big explosion. I also liked the no corpses route. Sure it's kinda odd given the circumstances and if you read the comic books but it realllly drove home this eerie creeo factor that's really well present to me at least. Like it's just creepy how a city filled with millions is suddenly a ghost town and that was a well made decision
As a straight up horror; a "serious" zombie in a sense, 28 days later is in it's own league. I don't even see Shan of the Dead as being in the same genre really.
This was the Secret Surprise film at the Stockholm Film Festival. No title announcement, no clues, nothing! I had read about this film so when the title came up I knew what it was - but if you've seen it you know that the title also doubles as the explanatory text indicating how long it's been between the chimp lab and Jim waking up in the hospital. So anyone in that theatre that didn't know there was a film coming out called "28 Days Later", probably saw the whole thing and left the theatre still not knowing the name of it! 😀

About the movies intro, I've always felt it was an homage to Day Of The Triffids since the similarities are abundant. Saw it in the theater and immediately got that vibe and knew I was in for a treat.
Two things stand out, for me, in this incredible movie. Firstly, I thought that the scenes around London, minus the bodies, gave it more emotional impact. It really drove home what it would feel like to NOT be one of the undead. Secondly, the image of Manchester in ruinous flame above the deserted highway underpinned the hopelessness of their situation. I have seen both versions of the movies ending ( the "What if..." sequence) and I know which one would have been more likely. One of the truly great directors. Oh Danny Boy!!

North Americans don't generally use the word "in" right before the location like that (for example, it'd be "at the hospital" or "in *the* hospital"), whereas British people sometimes do (like "in hospital") Edit: btw, I realized I was too broad in my description; North Americans (like myself) actually do say "in [location]" for some places/contexts, this example just isn't one of them

The opening scene is wonderful, his standing on the bridge in an empty city screaming "HELLO!!". And the one thing that movie did that truly freaked people is the speed of the zombies, no lumbering corpses here!
I prefer the grim ending of Jim dying and the women walking off with the guns into an uncertain future. You know there is hope because we all saw the plane

I have defended the laundry baskets in that scene several times. To me, it was a sign of just how desperate they were for water, that even the probably-not-even-a-quarter-inch deep bottom of a laundry basket would be worth using.

It's really a great movie, even nowadays. I first saw it at age 7 with my older brothers that had around 20 and 21 and IT.WAS.SCARY. And even nowadays when i try to watch it i always end up with a weird throw-up feeling, but in a good way. Overall it was well produced movie.

Here's a little thing not many people would know.... There's a deleted scene only available on the film's Soundtrack (as an enhanced extra on the disc) where the cast sing along to 'Hotel Yorba' by The White Stripes while they are driving to the North. Weather it wasn't used because of run time, licensing for the track or because it's pretty obvious that the cars outside aren't static we'll probably never know...... Unless someone asks Danny about it if they so happen to bump into him.
This film is my claim to fame ha ha, i was one of two people who built the 3 cabs used in this film. All three had to look identical on the outside to the untrained eye. one cab for exterior shots, one for interior shots and one stunt cab. The Tunnel stunt where the cab drives over the cars was done by welding skids to the underside of the cab and the cars it drove over were wrapped in a steel mesh that was edited out after filming.
The buckets scene was actually pretty awesome. It made it seem so dire that they needed to leave and find supplies. And I'm ok with a laundry basket being used. In that situation I'd be putting every container on that roof. Even shot glasses.
Exactly; me too, if I was genuinely that desperate. Laundry baskets can hold a tiny bit of water, the slits don't go all the way to the bottom. So if you're that desperate, it's worth a try.
Bonus thing: the ending in the cut of the film you’ll see today isn’t the original. In the original ending sequence, Jim dies in hospital but viewers said this was too depressing so they changed it, you can find it on UA-cam
28 weeks later had toooooo big a budget i guess. 2 different movies. 2 different feels. like both for different reasons. Days is psychological thriller. Weeks is traditional zombie.
They should make a “28 Seconds Later” or a “28 minutes”, “28 hours later”, to show the initial outbreak as a prequel to 28 days later. To show just how fast and real the rage virus spread through the UK.

If they ever do 28 months later they should totally do this at the start of the film, starting with 28 second later and showing a 10 second clip then 28 minutes later then 28 hours later just showing small clips like people running and getting killed then skip to 28 months later.

Fact 8- Danny Boyle cut the scenes of deserted London at the beginning to Godspeed You Black Emperor’s song East Hastings without knowing if they would let him use it. When he reached out they agreed but as long as they weren’t credited or included on the soundtrack.
I hope the gritty camera returns. That signature style camera of both the films. The infected in this movie are literally the only form of infected/zombie that has be uneasy to look or think about.
That church scene when some of the rage victims turn to look up at him when he calls out still makes my skin crawl.

Fact 8- Danny Boyle cut the scenes of deserted London at the beginning to Godspeed You Black Emperor’s song East Hastings without knowing if they would let him use it. When he reached out they agreed but as long as they weren’t credited or included on the soundtrack.
