  • After arriving in Vlorë, Albania by ferry from Italy we had to take care of a few admin issues.
First was compulsory 3rd party insurance as our EU greencard did not provide cover in Albania.
Then it was a hunt for an ATM that doesn't charge crazy transaction fees. We checked a bunch of banks and the average fee with cash withdrawal seem to be around 500-700 lek - this is in addition to the currency conversion charge you may incur. (We found Credins Bank to be the only bank that don't charge a fee for withdrawals).
For cell cover we compared ONE.AL with VODAFONE.AL and eventually got 3 sims from the ONE which should also roam (like home) in the rest of the Western Balkans.

Glad to see a couple from South Africa visiting my country. Have fun. I noticed, correct me if I'm wrong, you haven't done your homework before visiting Albania or perhaps you've done some but not enough. Spend some time on UA-cam and browse some tourists videos who have visited Albania and you will find plenty of info that may help you in your visit. Make sure you get some taste of our traditional cuisine. Cheers.

Thanks for your comment! We did do some homework before visiting and that is why we chose to visit Albania! However, a big part of travel is discovering as you go, that is also why we love to travel. We are enjoying exploring Albania and learning more as we do so, it is a beautiful country! 😊

Aww, that's so sweet of you! We hope we get to meet in person someday! The pandemic caused us to pause our adventures, but we'll continue them very soon! Working on the plan now. Don't let this put you off, you just need to be more selective with where you park (as we also usually are). There are many free & cheap places to overnight safely, you just need to be aware and cautious. Thanks for watching, happy travels! 😊

Unfortunately, you only have the option of 3rd party at the border. If you want comprehensive cover, you will need to arrange that with your current (own) insurer in advance.

@@WeWillNomad we were staying in de Panne just in Belgium for our final couple of nights and travelled Calais to Dover on the ferry as the tunnel is expensive for motorhomes. Hi love the videos, playing catch up at the moment. I think your bike is great surprised you don't see more of them. Would you have a 125 scooter if weight was not a issue. Also is it hard to find nice house sitting jobs in spain. There doesn't seem that many when you look at the website.

    • @WeWillNomad

Thank you Anthony, appreciate that! We are doing a review video of our bike next week so look out for that. Yes, we would love to have a scooter but would also still want the bike! 😜
Regarding house sitting, if you keep looking you can find some good ones but it depends on what suits you. Just keep in mind it is a commitment so only pick one that you think will be a good fit! Good luck! 😊

Albania is a country that has come out of the madness of communism and it’s a country that is in development still so you need to understand you are not in Western Europe that never experienced 50 years of dictatorship. Albania is full of beauty if you are a little open minded and understand that you are not in the comfort of your own home. Any country you visit there are challenges and Albania is no different but if you go prepared and do research and know what you can and can’t do you will find everything other countries have we have it all. Sandy and rocky beaches, lakes, rivers, alps, lagoons, wild life, different kinds of forests, culture, archaeological sites everywhere you go, delicious food, ancient history, unique culture and language, canyon’s, islands, the only wild river in Europe, the only place in Europe that you can find native European water buffaloes and one of very few countries in Europe that you can still find bears, wolves, lynx, flamingos and all kinds of wildlife that you can’t find in most countries in Europe. Everything you can think of we have it all. Are there poor and underdeveloped areas in Albania? Of course there are but there are probably as poor and underdeveloped areas in London, Berlin, Paris and anywhere else in Europe and the world so if you’re looking for Dubai then don’t go to Albania because we have not had the luck of finding endless amounts of oil under the land. Enjoy your time in Albania and do a bit of research because you will miss all the fun

Thank you for watching our video and for your comment. We completely agree with you that Albania is full of beauty and we hope that you will see us enjoying that in the rest of our Albania videos. We are from South Africa and although very different to Albania's history, we are familiar with poverty and struggle and are happy to be able to experience everything that a country has to offer, not only the good. This is what we were trying to say in this video. We are in fact enjoying Albania and think it is a wonderful country to be able to visit. 😊
