I just installed the Castle creations bec with a Savox servo. I would have been tempted to in stall this bec, but I've have nothing but problems with Traxxas electronics. Cool video though, cheers!
So far so good on the new traxxas stuff, they are stepping up their game and I like the direction they are going. Plus this bec is a no brainer, it went in super easy, only drawback to some of us who want to run a HV servo is it’s only 6v.
Is just me or it feels a bit noisy the new servo? I've got the Castle BEC in my Summit with 2x SAVOX servos but connect it differently. More exactly the new BEC powers the servos directly and picks only the signal from the receiver. So the receiver keeps its bec for the smaller servos, lights, etc. This way I can provide enough power to the hungry servos but keep the receiver run cool! You can see my rig on my channel. My Traxxas Summit LT t's a scaled crawler converted at the moment...
How do you install this on a TRX4 Blazer running hobbywing 1080? I do have the Blazer light kit. Can I connect the JST connector into the power module for the light kit?
See in mine trx4 defender the servo works good until you applied throttle,it start to loose power and work little slow, once you stop the servo start to work and response fast again , I'd buy the traxxas bec after i saw your video ,one more question I'd buy a winch too can i plug the winch on the split connector that come with it
The reason it didnt brown out on yours is because you lack the other 3 servos from the OG TRX4. The problem is the XL5 HV Internal BEC has a wimpy 1A output.... It gets overloaded when you add 4 freaking servos to it of course, So the External BEC is a must have for those with the OG TRX4 and are upgrading the steering servo.
@@ExocagedRC The problem is the TQi TX does not have End Point Adjustments for channels 3 4 and 5 so those Sub-Micro servos are always hunting for end points… That is the reason they use a Servo Saver, They are designed to absorb any excessive movement from the servo at each end point.. Its a very stupid system because the TQi is hugely limited in adjustments in this regard.
I wonder if they sell just the bec. I feel like it’s a wast of money to pay for foam and a zip tie. And y harness. If they do, do you have the part number. Thanks -Erik
Sure if you bypass the bec around the receiver you can power anything, if both the bec and esc are plugged into the receiver you usually have to remove the red wire from the esc plug into the receiver. If both the esc and bec are set at 6v I've had good luck with just leaving them in. You don't want the esc at 6v and the bec at 7v plugged into the same receiver.
@@jamesspence9880 sure you can change the bec to power a HV servo but if the receiver can't handle that, it doesn't last long, thats whay I mentioned the bypass
awesome video as always bro I just finished putting a 1/8th system in an ftx bugsta ....... I think I will maybe post my next projects but that will be next year now but that thing is jokes on 4s :):):)
Sean P RC the protec 370 is an awesome servo. I’ve never tested one but from what I’ve seen it’s awesome. My favorite right now is the Reefs Raw500 for ease of installation and the Holmes SHV500v2 for direct battery power.
@@ExocagedRC Where I connect the pin that would go to the original esc. I should cancel the internal bec in the hobbywing?? I want to feed servo at 7.4v
José Antonio Sánchez Vázquez oh ok you want to run a bec straight to the servo. For that leave the axe esc wires alone, power the bec up and get a servo wire bypass. That will allow you to send 7.4v to the servo and let the receiver run on 6v from the axe. Holmes Hobbies sells bypass adaptors to make it an easy job.
@@ExocagedRC Ahh okk, but I already bought the bec traxxas, I can get it with bec traxxas and hobbywing.sorry the inconvenience I am denied for electronics😔
José Antonio Sánchez Vázquez ok well unless you’re willing to do some cutting a soldering you’re stuck at 6v. That’s all the traxxas bec can do is 6v. It’s not adjustable. If you’re willing to cut and solder you could run the bec to power the receiver and bypass the esc set at 7.4v to the servo. That’s the only way you’re going to get it to work.
Hi,please try explain it to me everybody when use an external bec to increase the performance on the steering servo plug it on channel 1 which is of course steering i don't still get the why it plug on channel two
because the bec gets power directly from the battery and it puts that power into the receiver at ch2, the plug swap is so the red wire from the esc can be disconnected inside the bec so its a simple plug and play setup. In most cases the red wire from the esc is removed from the plug when installing a bec into a receiver. Hope that helps
Wayne Mcclanahan this Bec is only good for 6v and the Mamba X doesn’t need an external bec, unless you want hv to servo and 6v to shift and diff servos.
I honestly don’t think they are made by anyone other than traxxas, the reason I say that is they are big enough to have a servo made on their own and shouldn’t need to rebrand anything at this point.
Sorry but you never build a BEC directly into the receiver box. The BEC should be at least 5 cm away from it. It can lead to electromagnetic interference. What do you mean what the box in the set is here.
I wasn't being serious. It's great that they finally know their cars need better servos but paying $150 for it when you can get 6 similarly spec'd or 3 ridiculously spec'd servos for the same price. . . plus any bec I would use would have to be HV. I can't deal with servos crapping out after 20 mins of rocking when the batteries I use can last an hour.
@VA OldSchool one thing I did knock anybody anything from buying Traxxas I own the TRX sport another thing it's made in Taiwan I thought Traxxas was an American product but I guess I was wrong
You could use conformal coating on the board and basicly have any servo waterproofed. I put a little dab of silicone on the wire/case junction and had good luck with that. If you want a true waterproof savox try the SW1210SG 444oz 0.13s Not brushless though, only Coreless.
HW is crap! If you push them they fail! It's a real crap shoot with them. Holmes Hobbies electronics and motors or Castle Creations. Better to buy one and it last 5 years than the down time and cost to buy 3 others.
That's not true, 400 oz-in is actually 28.8kg-cm and I don't see any Power HD's over 25kg-cm. The Traxxas one is exceptionally good considering it does 400 oz at 6v. Most of the higher torque servos need 7.4V to achieve those numbers.
I find that out of all UA-cam videos yours seem to be the most informative . Great content and no b/s.
Ordered, coming in soon, can't wait. Thanks heaps.

That BEC instal was super easy and it works really well
Straight to the play list. Thanks heaps.
Nice job on the install tutorial.👍👍
That looks like it works pretty good, I need to upgrade my trx4 servo because the stock servo doesn't seem to be strong enough, thanks for the info

Thanks very professional explanation,so in this case i don't have to remove the red wire (positive)as we have to do when using others becs?
Correct
Great video! Nice review :)
You didn't mention, Do you remove the middle (Red) plug from the Traxxas ESC? when connecting the Traxxas BEC?
With the bolt in BEC kit you don't have to mess with any of that. Its super easy to put in.
Sweet video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Would this BEC work on a summit?
How do you install this on a TRX4 Blazer running hobbywing 1080? I do have the Blazer light kit. Can I connect the JST connector into the power module for the light kit?
I believe the bec kit comes with the jst splitter so you should be able to just use a Jst off the main battery to get everything working.

is there an event there tomorrow?

True but if the servos are properly set with end points and all that, they shouldn't be under any load.

Do brushless servos not need a servo saver?
where do you find the spec sheet for the trx4 sport stock servo?
It was on the website, I’m guessing they changed the info

I’m not sure if or when they will be available separately.
I have a rustler 4x4 vxl should I install one of the traxxas BEC if I install the blue traxxas 330 oz steering servo?
Kirk Leaman most likely no, should be fine with that. If it doesn’t need to be waterproofed I’d run a faster servo
R u still running this servo

Had nothing but issues with this servo and the fact the case uses bushings and it wobbles out allowing the gears to strip
what is the BEC for ?
Is for feed the servo and not use the internal ESC BEC.
