My parents taught us to never waste anything but it amazes me that I seem to be the only one to remember and use those lessons. Even if half of a potato is rotten, the other half can still be used. Then the bad part, chickens, pigs or the compost pile will benefit from it.

This video has so much information most everyone needs to know. I've got to do a little more research for myself to find another place that donates food because the church I was going to once a month has so many people now showing up they run out of food after I waited 2 hours and 15 minutes in the car line. It's getting almost unbearable waiting when your in so much pain but you have to do it because it's the only way now to have enough to get through to the next month. It's sad that so many of us did not ever think we should have been prepping years ago. I'm so glad I found you and have learned so much from you this year I will always be so grateful to you sweet Tessie. I will survive ! 👍💙

Tessie, my brother and I began watching you over two years ago. We enjoyed watching and messaging each other about the fun and interesting things that our Tessie was getting into.
About 7 weeks ago my brother went Home to Jesus and this is the first video I’ve been able to watch of yours since he left me.
You are an extra comfort to me right now. A special bond that he and I had.
Thank you for just being you.

Dates on cans and on most non-perishable food are just suggestions for alot of us. Lots of people in other countries are not as blessed as we are to have the options to get nourishing food. I love how you use almost everything you are able to find and not alot goes to waste. We have certainly learned alot from each other during these hard times.

I learned some of this from a former video of yours! I am a lead community health care worker and help my elderly community get food often. Tessie, your state is very lucky to have this program. We have commodities in our town, but they go by income. I do not know if we have a good bank, we do not even have a salvation army. You are truly blessed. Your pantry is simply amazing..I'm lucky to have six cans of anything in ours. You have taught me a lot and I thank you. ❤️

Hello my friend! This is a beautiful video Teresa! Ironically, today I baked some chocolate chip cookies from the food truck that I had stashed away in my pantry. As a test I baked them with the expiration date of nearly 2 years ago! They tasted delicious and are just fine! I enjoy being the wiser now and know that most packaged food is perfectly fine long past it's expiration date. Thank you so much for everything you have taught me and so many others. 💗

Same here, but in the states. I heard countless stories on how my mother's family (which was 9 or 10) lived on potatoes (potato soup, fried potatoes, diced potatoes, mashed potatoes, etc. etc.), or potatoes with onions. So, my mother was a food "hoarder" - full freezer and full cupboards. In her younger days when I was little, she gardened and canned and we lived off of those foods during the cold winter months. So, back to these days, I'm a food "stocker" (not hoarder). I have an organized pantry in my basement and shop the pantry before shopping the stores for those items. I do have the luxury of having some freeze dried foods as well, so if something happens to me, my adult son still at home will have food for awhile to live off of. Anyway, long story - sorry. It's a totally different mindset to what many are used to in this minimalist society, despite having just gone through 2 Very hard years from a supply perspective and I feel it's going to get worse.

Tessie, this video is one of the best instructional ones you've ever done! it really shows your skill as a teacher. You know how to organize a certain amount of material that you want to communicate, then break it down into different "sub-headings" and present it step by step in understandable terms. That is a real gift!
One of the hardest things sometimes is to figure out what people don't know (yet) as they're learning. When I'm trying to learn something, the biggest problem is that I "don't know what I don't know," if that makes sense!
You are SO good at explaining things like how to use a search feature. This makes people with questions feel more competent in getting answers, and relieves you of the burden of answering the same questions over and over. And you do it without ever having a patronizing attitude to those of us who are learning.
I have a friend who volunteers at a weekly pantry at a Methodist church about 12 miles from here. She says the demand for food is really skyrocketing. If we just went by what's presented on the media we would get a very false impression of what's going on today. So often the message is: "Everything is just fine!" While I believe in being optimistic, the truth of the matter is that everything isn't fine everywhere and programs like this are lifesavers.
Bless you and your family, Tessie, for doing so much to help so many. 🙂

I don't live near you but I listen to all you say about helping your community because maybe I can help my own community with some of the knowledge you've shared. We don't have Blessings of Hope anywhere near. We don't have a lot of Amish who give discarded food because there aren't a lot of Amish farmers here. But there are food banks and churches who are always looking for volunteers. This world isn't getting easier and we all need to do what we can for our brothers and sisters and for ourselves. You are so right in the need of teaching others to preserve food. When I was in school we had the opportunity to take home economics classes in the 80's. However, I opted to take computer related and business related classes instead as I could see needing that for my career. I wish that I had had time for both as I never learned to sew and didn't really learn to can. I know the basics of preserving from occasionally assisting my grandparents and from reading books but my knowlege is limited. My children have not been given the opportunity to learn to cook at school. I had to teach them about measurements and following recipes and how to substitute items if you are missing them. Most of my childrens friends are clueless how to follow recipes even as their patents don't cook from scratch. So at least they are ahead of the game. Anyway thanks for putting these videos on You Tube to teach others how to preserve food.😀

I recently learned how to pickle vegetables. My local grocery stores do mark down the prices. I grab it, cut the vegetables into smaller pieces and pickle them. I now have 2 spice combinations I use for cooking - one is a common recipe and the other uses spices for Oriental meals. Makes quick, delicious meals.

Thank you for bringing the awareness Tessie. I have heard a lot of areas have difficult times because they can't get enough helpers there's plenty of food they just can't get people to volunteer. I'm also heard in rural areas here in Minnesota it gets difficult for people not enough volunteers. Second hand Harvest, Manna Market, Grace Church in Fridley is once a month, Serenity Village is by appointment but it is a drive-thru, Hope Church in Blaine Minnesota does when every Thursday from 9:30 to 4:30. These are a few that I know and like you said of people go online it will give information and phone numbers. Here in Minnesota I'm sure if they call Secondhand Harvest they will give people numbers as well. I grew up with family that didn't waste food either and they were pretty frugal. I remember as a little girl one time eating an apple and I went to throw the core and my grandpa said there's good nutrition there and he ate it. And when you talked about expiration dates people need to listen to cuz you're right

We try not to waste food. Sometimes some of what we get we give to the ducks, geese and chickens. Sometimes we get meat that we can't eat before it starts to get freezer burn. We cook it up and give a warm meal to the stray cats outside. Especially in the winter. I have cut up vegetables that can be frozen so they don't go bad.
I want to let you know, I sent you an email. I hope you got it. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us 🙏.
