- Conan O'Brien had a brief, but very memorable run on NBC's The Tonight Show from 2009 to 2010. Before that he had a long run at NBC anchoring Late Night with Conan O'Brien from 1993 to 2009. He has the unique distinction of replacing both David Letterman at Late Night on NBC in 1993 (when Letterman left the network for CBS and his own late night talk show), and then Jay Leno on NBC's The Tonight Show in 2009 when Leno joined the NBC primetime lineup for fall 2009.
Currently O'Brien hosts his own talk show, 'Conan', on TBS cable television.
This particular video clip is from Conan O'Brien's October 31, 1993 show, very early in his run at Late Night. This specific episode was a true clash of the generations - five people (including Andy Richter) covering television over the generations and decades. It featured a very wide range of guests that night, including actress Maureen McCormick, comedian Gilbert Gottfried, and surprise guest Dick Cavett.

In recent interviews, Maureen says that she was struggling with her identity at this time. Her personal life was miserable, but she hid behind the happiness of Marcia. Wasn't until she was on the weight loss show that she was able to be herself in front of people.
I know she went through a drug addiction phase, and was later on Dr. Phil because her older brother was psychologically manipulating their aging father.
She does seem more subdued here, in contrast to later interviews.

Awful interview filled w/ all the tired cliches yet Maureen handled it super well. This is the HOTTEST I've ever seen her! 37 here and hands down at her prime. Waay better than on the Brady Bunch. 1993 yet the hair etc...still look modern and fab. Totally filled out yet still youthful and hot

I can't believe they remembered that scene from The Brady Bunch! I actually didn't like that scene because I actually got hit in the nose by a football at my local swimming pool two years ago and it hurt so bad I was afraid I was bleeding. I can't stand the sight of blood and that's why I was terrified. She nailed that part once again!

Could someone explain what was edited out at the beginning when Conan got the phone call?
Hi Charles... thank you so much for asking. Good question regarding the edit. A truthful answer... we're not certain why this edit on the phone call was made. These VHS source tapes are a collection of tapes that we have in our files that our team members recorded years, often decades, ago.
We were all much younger then, learning the ropes and had no idea back in say, 1995, that thirty years later we'd be pulling out these tapes and that they would still be readable and we'd be digitally converting them and uploading onto the Internet a platform called UA-cam.
We had no idea what we were doing... just recording stuff we liked, and editing out things we thought (back then) were superfluous, or just not funny. That's our guess... one of our guys here made the tape as a young adult, like Mo, didn't like Conan, and so, Conan's routine appears to have gotten some editing. Hopefully you are still finding this video enjoyable... much more to come, so we hope you'll stay with us and enjoy the channel.

Indeed - if you get a chance, pick up a copy of Maureen's memoir from earlier in the 2000s... titled 'Here's the Story.' Amazing read and one of the best autobiographies we've ever read (and we've read a lot of them) about a young person navigating Hollywood. It is a compelling story, and what make it hit home for us is that we remember her life's/careers ups-and-down over the decades, not knowing 'the back story' behind her career peaks and valleys. Some rough times that looking back, we say 'gee, we should have figured this out... maybe someone could have helped her back then when she needed help.' We just couldn't 'connect-the dots'. This book book does... a really good book.

Good feedback... when we set up these summer-time titles back in 2016 to pay tribute to various television talk shows, we wanted to note that Conan O'Brien had hosted the Tonight Show. But upon review, now in 2018, it makes more sense to make the titles a bit more specific to O'Brien's show back in 1993. Update made... this title should be better description now. That was a terrible interview. Other than showing how she looked in 1993 and the mention of her birth control gig, it gave absolutely nothing else. Conan is overrated.
