From what I've heard from most people (this is related to Beachcomber), "The Golden Lagoon", which served as Beachcomber's spotlight episode in the Generation 1 cartoon, taught us a very important lesson: Even the most beautiful things in the world can fall victim to the ravages of war. That lesson was so powerful that it was used again in _Avatar_ (2009), in the scene where Colonel Miles Quaritch and his forces bombard the roots of the Omaticaya's gigantic Hometree until it collapsed like the World Trade Center towers on 9/11.
