I think Füllkrug is a really good signing for West Ham. He did a good job in Bremen and Dortmund. West Ham supporters will love him. He’s a likeable guy
My old man’s German so we’ve followed the Nationalelf pretty closely since I was a pup. There’s an element to Füllkrug’s game, which you only see on the international stage, that might bode well even if we bring in Duran. At both the recent WC and Euros, Füllkrug rarely, if ever, started a game. They’d bring him on late, particularly when they needed a goal and just started bombing crosses into the 18-yarder, changing their system pretty dramatically. He would invariably score and always caused problems. Against Spain in the Euro, he had two great chances late that may well have sealed a victory. One was kept out by a great save and the second whizzed past the post. He and Duran could perhaps dovetail their talents nicely in this way. Think Soucek late with a real eye for goal and much better linkup play.
I genuinely feel that if we can get the supply line right, Fullkrug is a great signing. We have had some brilliant strikers in previous seasons but didnt play to their strengths. With Summerville, Bowen, Kudus and Paqueta we have potentially got some forward line. COYI'S
Now get Duran in as well , Fullkrug will have injury problems so we will need back up , I have a feeling Antonio will play a lot wide left this season , 75 minutes of Summerville magic ,followed by 15 minutes of an angry Mickey in full Beast Mode , Love It .
The way I see it is that if Fulkrug scores more than 10 league goals (ie what we can expect from Antonio) and that surplus is enough to qualify us for Europe, then he will have paid for himself by European revenue. I think 20 mins will see us get the maximum out of Antonio too. We really need to try and find another home for Ings that he can live with though.

Antonio has never scored more than 10 league goals in a season for us so I think it's a fair benchmark, Whilst Micky doesn't have as good an assist record, he does have excellent hold-up play and I was blown away by his lung-bursting run in the second half against Palace followed by a superb pass that JWP really should have finished.
Watch Fulkrug’s highlights from last year and the goals he scored. Antonio would have skied almost all of them into the 43rd row. Fulk’s a pure striker.
I was at the game in Tampa and it was the first time I saw our players up close. Other than Aguerd, our center backs look very beefy (they look twice the size of Ward-Prowse!). But what worries me is they don't look necessarily "fast beefy" like, say, a Rudiger or Kyle Walker. Crystal Palace seemed able to make quick five yard runs passed our fullbacks in our box almost at will.
That was when two strikers were more prominent and one would be more of a supporting act. TBH, he isn't that slow, just not gonna offer many runs in behind. I think there will be games more suited for him, and some more suited for Antonio. For teams who play a high line, I would go for Antonio, for teams that sit deep, maybe Fulk. I think Lopetegui must be thinking about having quite a flexible system or at least having an ability to switch things around a lot. I think they're two smart signings. Fullkrug deal sounds a bit rich, but offset by the Rodriguez free. We need a striker to nit together attacking play, and we desperately need competition/cover for Alvarez.

My view is If they're good enough, they're young enough. I'm hopeful that someone at the club has paper, crayon, and a grasp of where we are in terms of PSR. Outside of that, if they are a bit expensive and have no resale value, good. The owners can afford it, they made $100M profit on Declan Rice. Geo I totally disagree with you on Duran. A team such as ours need three strikers (assuming Ings is off) challenging, especially when 2 of them are over 31. Especially when you take into consideration injuries and the ability to change in game tactics. Taking on Watkins in his prime is not the same as Fullkrug and Antonio. If I am Duran, I'm definitely backing myself against the other two strikers.
I couldn't disagree more with you Geo. If Antonio is likely too keep a striker out of the starting eleven it would be Fullkrug, not Duran, IMHO. I think Fullkrug might struggle to adapt to the week in week out pace of the league.
antonio is the only other striker who is half decent at hold up and link up, he's also a bit of hybrid who can threaten on the counter, lop will switch to antonio when we are already ahead a looking to kill the game in the second half both fullkrug and antonio are going to be really critical

Nope. Antonio defies logic. It was only a few months ago he was dominating Leverkusens back line, who are supposedly one of the best sides in Europe. Like your man says above, he is still a huge member of this side, and it's his shirt to lose. I think Antonio has earned the right to start the season as the number 9, and its up to Füllkrug to prove otherwise. For me, Antonio needs to start game day one.
My concern is that when German strikers come to the prem, a lot of them struggle and don’t score as many as they did in their home country. I hope that doesn’t happen with this guy.

He's a poacher, Ruud V and Kane could play till 35, with the way he plays. He's 31 FGS, Antonio is 34 and Fullkrug is a much better finisher. We have 3 solid years with him, then 2 decent years after.
Don’t totally agree about potentially taking Duran now, would need to know him and his motives more clearly to make a final decision even though Füllkrug pushes it towards the anti side I agree. But do we know his true feelings, being second fiddle to Watkins who at 28 and top class means he has little future at Villa other than as a makeweight, would he feel the same about playing short term second fiddle to a guy who is 31, a stop gap signing unproven in the Prem and will be decent at best baring a shock. At Durans age he may well be happy to wait a year to be number one whereas waiting 4 years and maybe never is career defining. So what is his attitude really like based on that scenario. Only those closer to him will know and thus I would prefer the decision is based on that sort of information rather than us speculating based on headline occurrences that I agree are a concern but one to be studied objectively rather than too subjectively at this point. So open mind from me on that basis.

For once I disagree with you completely. Duran has to be a priority. Fullkrug and Duran with both both on the pitch here and there and also if one striker is tired then the other can come on to cause equally as much damage. Then Antonio and Ings that can come on when opposition defences are getting tired ...That is what we need and have needed for a long time. Duran is not st*pid brainless and clueless, he will Immediately understand what is happening and what is needed.

My view is If they're good enough, they're young enough. I'm hopeful that someone at the club has paper, crayon, and a grasp of where we are in terms of PSR. Outside of that, if they are a bit expensive and have no resale value, good. The owners can afford it, they made $100M profit on Declan Rice. Geo I totally disagree with you on Duran. A team such as ours need three strikers (assuming Ings is off) challenging, especially when 2 of them are over 31. Especially when you take into consideration injuries and the ability to change in game tactics. Taking on Watkins in his prime is not the same as Fullkrug and Antonio. If I am Duran, I'm definitely backing myself against the other two strikers.
Am unsure, not many PL clubs who play one striker have three and that includes clubs competing in Europe such as City, Arsenal etc.
You can't go into the season with Fullkrug as our main man.

I couldn't disagree more with you Geo. If Antonio is likely too keep a striker out of the starting eleven it would be Fullkrug, not Duran, IMHO. I think Fullkrug might struggle to adapt to the week in week out pace of the league.
Depends how we play and set up, pre-season has me slightly concerned regarding the attacking side but we haven’t seen anyone bar Kudus yet really.

antonio is the only other striker who is half decent at hold up and link up, he's also a bit of hybrid who can threaten on the counter, lop will switch to antonio when we are already ahead a looking to kill the game in the second half

@@damiandamico4715 As much as I love Antonio, he was never a centre forward/striker, amazing wide player and one of the best buys we have had in the last decade, but I just think his career has now run it's course, I don't think we can rely on him to be that effective when Füllkrug isn't available or simply has not worked out.
Nope. Antonio defies logic. It was only a few months ago he was dominating Leverkusens back line, who are supposedly one of the best sides in Europe. Like your man says above, he is still a huge member of this side, and it's his shirt to lose. I think Antonio has earned the right to start the season as the number 9, and its up to Füllkrug to prove otherwise. For me, Antonio needs to start game day one.
My concern is that when German strikers come to the prem, a lot of them struggle and don’t score as many as they did in their home country. I hope that doesn’t happen with this guy.
As long as he helps Bowen, Kudus and one or two other attacking players score double figures, I think he'll have done well.

He's a poacher, Ruud V and Kane could play till 35, with the way he plays. He's 31 FGS, Antonio is 34 and Fullkrug is a much better finisher. We have 3 solid years with him, then 2 decent years after.

Don’t totally agree about potentially taking Duran now, would need to know him and his motives more clearly to make a final decision even though Füllkrug pushes it towards the anti side I agree. But do we know his true feelings, being second fiddle to Watkins who at 28 and top class means he has little future at Villa other than as a makeweight, would he feel the same about playing short term second fiddle to a guy who is 31, a stop gap signing unproven in the Prem and will be decent at best baring a shock. At Durans age he may well be happy to wait a year to be number one whereas waiting 4 years and maybe never is career defining. So what is his attitude really like based on that scenario. Only those closer to him will know and thus I would prefer the decision is based on that sort of information rather than us speculating based on headline occurrences that I agree are a concern but one to be studied objectively rather than too subjectively at this point. So open mind from me on that basis.
