@@basiraalizadeh5286 sure! Descartes is widely considered the father of modern western philosophy for his “rationalism” (pure reason and logic that does not necessarily require experience). He rationalized so hard that he started to doubt that anything even existed or was real, and wrote meditations to prove it. Then only thing he was certain that DID exist was his own thinking. Which sparked the birth of his famous quote “I think, therefore I am.” He then kinda concluded that everything that existed was mind. Heidegger seemed to want his listeners to affirm real life and understand and enjoy things for what they are (I am not doing justice here, but then again it’s a mere UA-cam comment). He was mainly concerned with “being,” and before you can think about stuff (like Descartes), “being” has to precede that. So, the things in real life precede your own thoughts. Even the “I” Hope this helps.
I'm doing my doctorate and I am working with Heidegger's 'Being and Time'. I thought I'd hop on here and see what's up. I was happy to find this. You did a wonderful job. My former professor is a Heideggeran scholar and he likes to call Heidegger's language "Heideggerese" haha
I'm not sure how this video would help you if you've already had any contact with Heidegger after having already gotten your master's degree and going for your PhD/Doctorate. And honestly, I'm not really sure what schools you have attended that would lead to this scenario.
I've subsequently read that the young Heidegger embodied the trait of being "stunned" by everything he encountered, by the "mystery" of life; that he walked in a state of "being with" as opposed to being a mere "observer." He was like our great poets, for example, Wordsworth. What "was," what "is," is the view itself. The phenomena itself. And so, his dedicating his great book to Husserl.

The order in which you explain basic Heideggerian terms and the perspective in which you render them following one another in such a manner that clarifies the connection between them makes this video the best, condensed and simple (if this can be) introduction to Heideggers thought, I have come across. Many thanks!

I tried to read "Sein und Zeit" twice, but couldn't finish and understand the book if Im honest. In my admittedly inadequate. Introduction to dasein we just hot through 50 pages of the introduction to this book. At the time it seemed to be working in circles trying to decondtruct the concept of "is"..
no matter what kind of ordeal you went through while making this video , what you made is a great piece of work , Had heidegger being alive he would have been proud of you.
I thought you did a great job putting this video together. Not only is the delivery of information concise, but it delivered deeply enough to get a good understanding of how the different aspects of the subjects link together. Also, beautiful edits, video and audio. I can tell you worked hard putting this together and I appreciate it. It's always inspiring when someone delivers information in a way that evokes emotion, really helps me knit it all together. Outstanding work, thank you. I will be referencing this in the future.
As a student of Martin Heidegger, I want to applaud you for the quality of this project. VERY well done. I'm especially impressed with the fact that you include the topic of Befindlichkeit, which is at once both the most important, and most elusive, part of Heidegger's existential analytic. For anyone interested in gaining any PRACTICAL value from philosophy, understanding this concept, and how it fits with the broader phenomenological project, can be absolutely transformative. It can illuminate the nature of the human condition across religious, ideological, and philosophical schools of thought. Great job!
I was lucky to attend a lecture by Hubert Dreyfus on Heidegger and I can tell you the major issue is that in the moment you can understand Heidegger, but that understanding slips away quickly. As you return to being in the world, say eating a meal or talking with your spouse, his way of thinking is displaced by the inauthentic. It is almost exactly like Taoism.
Heidegger has spoken the exact words of Adhyaatma. (Thus spake). It's impossible to deeply resonate with this man's ideas, they cancel out the artificial mayhem of modern humans. When I hear the philosophy of thoughts I've thought of, I feel heard and content. It's not just joy from realisation, but also the realisation of acknowledging that I, and others rediscover very important concepts of life. All just because we're essentially sired into this unity of perception called life.
I did appreciate the way you made Heidegger alive and relevant. For example, by becoming more open, less dogmatic and narrow-minded. And yes indeed, if I have this right, in Heidegger we find once again a child-like unity of life, a sense of oneness with the world, such that, in a sense, the awe and wonder never stop. One is constantly flabbergasted at being alive, being in the moment, with an active appreciation for whatever comes down the pike, and the strength, even muscularity, to deal intentionally with it.
It’s tough to grasp Dasein without diving into the Phenomenological Reductions of Husserl. Well, that’s what helped me more than anything. Wonderful video, Sir. Thank you.
this was probably for simplification purposes, but i think it was important that you mentioned husserl, since he is heidegger's direct influence and the one that actually responded to descartes pointing out this flaw. great video anyway!
Excellent summary. Heidegger is very difficult to read and even more difficult to explain. Any effort will necessarily miss something important, but even conveying the basic "what it's about" is a daunting task in itself, and you go through it very well.
The homage to Roderick was a beautiful touch. You are bringing the past - part of my past is Roderick - along with you. Keep making videos. You understand time. I can't wait to watch your other creations.

I've heard many commentaries on Heidegger, but by far your explanations of Dasein, showing clearly why Descartes ' notion of the cogito is flawed, was for me brilliant. Thank you.
I wonder how Heidegger would have reacted now that the very relevance of human intellect is challenged by the potentially-apocalyptic rise of artificial intelligence, the emergence of virtual realities such as Metaverse, and the further expansion of technologies into our human perceptions, sensations, and experiences. Thanks for the video.
Finally, I get it! You have given me a wonderful gift to help me somewhat understand Martin Heidegger's concept of Being and Time. I am a visual artist working on a series called "Time". I found this work to be deeply inspiring. Thank you.
If he didn’t explore consciousness, then he was exploring secondary things, including “being.” Consciousness is fundamental to everything else. Without it, nothing can be/is known. Consciousness comes first in everything we do. Get at consciousness, get at the nature of things.
Thankyou very much youve made my understanding of who Heidegger was and his philosophy much clearer. This information will help me with one of my Intergrative Counselling assignments on the Here and Now. Blessjngs
Not a native German Speaker, but I assumed Dasein refers to the position of your being itself, which naturally requires a physical reference point of the present (and possible future) moment. It’s mostly linguistics, so I’m not discrediting your video. Amazing work.
Bachelor student in Philosophy over here--Heidegger is one of my most difficult reads, not due to the vocabulary, but rather ALL the interconnecting concepts and terminology one must familiarize themselves with...I feel like my mind is gonna burst lol

To just be, to step out of time (or to pretend there is no such thing as time) to have moments of no thought. To just be, is the most peaceful state I have, or can, be in. I say to myself, many times each day, just be. This seems to shut the mind up, if only for a moment or two. When the mind is quiet, I notice peace and rest in my body, and all is well. The situation is never the issue, only our thoughts surrounding the situation, and if you can have no thoughts, then there is no issues.
Heidegger dealt with a human being from a functional perspective; that is, he considered that which a human being "is" is most primordially that which a human being is up to, or, you could say, a human being most importantly "is" that human being's purpose, or, as Heidegger would say (in translation) a human being is best described in terms of that which a human being "cares about." When considered from this perspective, not only the human being, but everything that exists, shows up in terms of that which the human being cares about. You can contrast this to a lot of other descriptions of a human being: an academic description, an analytic/diagnostic description, or a linguistic description. If what you want out of life is what you want out of life, these descriptions tend to be impotent. Heidegger's more functional description goes right to the heart of human functionality, and thus, human productivity, and human empowerment. That's why it's received so much attention. BUT Heidegger's philosophy had a serious deficit. Reduced to it's bottom line, it's about how to get what you want out of life, but it completely ignores what you should want to get.
This overview was excellent. You carried me much farther down the road to understanding Heidegger. With a few more views, I hope to get a few more yards in understanding.

English speakers love to change the accent of German words from the front, to the back. In some compound words, it is correct to put the accent on the first syllable of the second idiom, as in "Versicherung", (Because of the nounal idiom "Sicherung"), but as a basic rule, for all German words, especially nouns, the accent is normally on the first syllable. "Dasein" is a perfect example, the emphasis is on the "da". and it is important, because incorrectly moving the accent to "sein", causes confusion, changes the meaning, and could be mistaken for "Das Sein".
My second encounter with this video and it’s opened itself up to me from your first assured word . This is Sofia in her glory so gently brought down to earth . Thank you . Now back to the video for me .
Thanks for creating these videos. Heidegger is indeed a super complicated read but the insights are well worth the effort. What you have shared has really helped me to digest and frame what he has written
You did a fabulous job not to sound too inauthentic, but you really did. I loved it! You will find the concept of "interbeing" in Buddhism (especially as explained by Thich Nhat Hanh) to be exactly the same as Heidegger. When I was five, I had a mystical experience of the shattering of self into the vastness of the cosmos, of being the cosmos. When my individual self reassembled, I felt this little consciousness didn't need to worry about anything because this "I" was all over the place.
Oh wow this is absolutely brilliant. The video is relatively short, and yet precise, specific, and in depth. I loved going through this. Keep it up man
Hi thanks for this video. Sounds like what Buddhism is saying during the past 2 millennia :) being as part of the world as the underlying concept, that we are in union with the rest of the world, to differentiate you from your essence, all this sounds very familiar when you study schools of thought such as Buddhism, Zen and a like.
That last scene had me cracking up. I've read and studied Being and Time, and there are several "WTFs" scribbled in the margins. An extremely difficult work, but very rewarding and very important. Thank you so much for taking this on. I thought you did a fine job.
You did a thoroughly good job .I’ve never heard such a notoriously difficult philosopher as Heidegger engaged with so formidably . The taste of the pudding is in the eating , and this was terse and lucid .
💚🙏 " No matter what you look at , if you look at it closely enough , you are involved in the entire universe ." ~ Michael Faraday " To know yourself as the Being underneath the thinker , the Stillness underneath the mental noise , the love and joy underneath the pain , is freedom , salvation , enlightenment ." ~ Eckhart Tolle " Consciousness sleeps in minerals , dream in plants , wakes up in animals , and becomes self - aware in humans ." ~ Rumi
@@feqanhacibalayev6426 it's funny it doesn't matter on the meaning of being because it's not yours then his metaphysic destroyed the autistic perspective and we just wanted to do it again
I'm no scholar but I have read a fair amount of Heidegger. I'd say you did a pretty good job encapsulating many of his key concepts - especially for a 20 min video. Thank you for your work.
There is duality. The antagonist vs protagonist is the essence of reality and all existence. Betrayal instantaneously provides the love / hate reward. A perspective that rewards both parties with necessary emotional reward for the best life and death experience for both. An epoch, and truly authentic reaction.
Great video! I would respond to your introduction, and around 11:22, by pointing out a quote by Marjorie Green: "By his own account Heidegger in first and last and always not an existentialist at all, but an ontologist: one who would restore Being to its rightful place in our thought", as you demonstrate. (M. Grene, 'Martin Heidegger', p. 12, cited in A. Thiselton's 'The Two Horizons', p. 144). That's picking at straws, though. "He threw a wrench right in the middle of modern, enlightenment era thinkers" - I love this! I agree; I think Heidegger is so important, in his restoration of ontology, of dismantling the Cartestian-Kantian subject-object conceptualisation (among many other things!). I appreciate your consideration of the implications of his 'paths' of thinking, to make it relevant to the 'everyday' (a faithful utilisation indeed!). I thoroughly recommend Thiselton's analysis and evaluation of Heidegger, by the way, if you haven't come across it already. He brings Heidegger, Gadamer, Wittgenstein and others into dialogue in the context of New Testament hermeneutics, but his critique is thorough and balanced even if that's not of particular interest. Thanks again!
It was very encouraging to me to watch your outburst in reading the work, being that I am currently reading the book and doing that same thing somewhat regularly.
I’m currently writing my thesis on Tolstoy’s The Death of Ivan Ilyich, and Aśvaghoṣa’s Life of the Buddha. I introduce Heidegger’s model for authentic living because I find it useful for opening up relevant questions in regard to how confronting the reality of our deaths makes life more meaningful. This video was really helpful, because Heidegger is quite difficult to understand and simplify.

This is by far the best explanation to Heidegger being and time
You have a tone of narration that is captivating.
This video is one of my favorites on youtube. It's so fundemental. So beautiful. Thank you x
Thank you for helping me understand Heidegger basics.
Keep it up man
I can't think of too many words to describe this absolutely wonderful job. Thank you!
Excellent exposition of Heidegger’s philosophy.
The best video on this subject. I have watch at least 20 videos. thank you so much!
Extremely well explained. Helped me understand Heidegger's BEING & TIME. Thanks.
This is by far the best short explanation of Heidegger out there!! Great job. This really cuts it. Looking forward to more. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. This video was extremely powerful and impactful in my understanding of this philosopher.
You made yourself vulnerable to the end there young chap! Well done :)
Hi thanks for this video.
Sounds like what Buddhism is saying during the past 2 millennia :)
being as part of the world as the underlying concept, that we are in union with the rest of the world, to differentiate you from your essence, all this sounds very familiar when you study schools of thought such as Buddhism, Zen and a like.
This is pretty much my intro to Heidegger and its pretty interesting so far.
That last scene had me cracking up. I've read and studied Being and Time, and there are several "WTFs" scribbled in the margins. An extremely difficult work, but very rewarding and very important.
Thank you so much for taking this on. I thought you did a fine job.
Excellent explanation of Heidegger. Well done.
Brilliant job!!! I need a lot more time to absorb this.
Wow. You did an absolutely fantastic job! Congrats!
You did a thoroughly good job .I’ve never heard such a notoriously difficult philosopher as Heidegger engaged with so formidably . The taste of the pudding is in the eating , and this was terse and lucid .
💚🙏

Best explanation of heidegger on youtube so far
Your videos are amazing ! Why are you so underrated ?
Thanks so much! We are just super small! Feel free to share the video and help us grow!
We need a video on GWF Hegel. His "Phenomenology of Spirit". I find it quite complex
As has everyone else in the last 200 years.
@@forthrightgambitia1032 Touche✅
I don't think it's possible in one short UA-cam video, I'd suggest watching Dr. Gregory Sadler's half hour series on phenomenology of spirit.
it is not complex , it is rubbish.
Phenomenal video. I'm reading through Being and Time right now, and you helped me make sense of a few concepts I've been struggling with.
It was very encouraging to me to watch your outburst in reading the work, being that I am currently reading the book and doing that same thing somewhat regularly.
I liked and understood to some basic level, what "Time and Being" was. Would love to watch more videos on Martin Hedieger's difficult philosophy.
This was great, thank you. Loved your honesty in the frustration of making this. Lightened my day.
This was amazing. I just returned from a long backpacking trip and hearing this hit me hard. Thank you for your hard work and insights on this. ❤❤❤
Thanks so much for this video. This was exactly what I needed to watch right now. Was inspiring to hear these ideas.
What a great video! Reminded me of why I like philosophy.
You saved me a lot of reading and a lot of frustration for my project, thank you!
This video really touched me. Beautiful and well explained .
I’m left hungry for more. I love the depth here
Breathtaking. Thank you
By far the best video on Heidegger as far as accessibility. You may have struggled to make this but you hit it out of the park.
