I was there with my wife and several friends! The whole festival was amazing and inspiring to see the massive turnout and the national spirit of Estonia which I first encountered among my Estonian classmates as a high school student here in Toronto. I regularly revisit these videos of Baltic song festivals for a spiritual lift.
I came across this song while searching for the poet Juhan LIv, whom I had read an article about. The massed voices and spirit in this song are so beautiful that I come back here and listen to it a couple of times a year. Thank you for posting.
Thank you very much, dear Estonians, for this beautiful song! Jumal onnistagu ja kaitsegu teid, armad eestlased! Ma olen uks soomlane emigrant kes elab Metro Manilas, Filippiineil.
I think this one of the most wonderful song I've ever gotten to sing, I wish I could go to Estonia this year for laulupidu, all I have to say to this is Ilus
Now that I've read Liiv's biography in Wikipedia, I cannot stop feeling sad. What a wonderful poet that had to struggle with something he couldn't beat and gave him so much sufferance. Is marvelous that you Estonians honour him so beautifully. We have a great poet who died poor, forgotten and ill, and nobody reminds of him. We are an ashaming nation. Long live Eestimaa!
The little bee flies from flower to flower, her hive getting closer every hour. thunderclouds over her they threaten and glower, but home gets closer every hour. Though thousands fall upon the way, thousands will survive and stay. The little bees forget their care and worry, as towards their hive they hurry. Soul, oh my soul, when times are bad -- Oh, how you long for your homeland! Whether at home, or abroad and sad, how you long for your homeland. The deadly winds, oh how they buffet and thrash, and throw deadly missiles across your path. But the little bee forgets both death and pain, and hurries to come home again ! Soul, oh my soul, when times are bad -- Oh, how you long for your homeland! Whether at home, or away and sad, Oh, how you yearn for your homeland, Oh, how you yearn for your homeland! es ist nicht nur ... das Lied - es ist "der Mensch.." - diese grenzenlose Liebe die so deutlich zu erleben ist... Wunderschön solche Momente mt erleben zu dürfen - DANKE
1amnott3ll1ng, You are most welcome! As an appetizer, imagine 30 000 singers, PLUS some 50 000 to 100 000 of audience singing back. Now, TRY to imagine a choir of more than 100 000 voices. Imagine the pure, immense, unstoppable POWER of THAT! One thing I do guarantee - Your life will not EVER be the same again.
@@ApprenticePL you're just a tiny bit off, it'd be 2,89M. Otherwise... yeah. Given it's a two-day event (three days, if you count Dance Celebration as well) the total number is even higher. And you're welcome next time too!
@@takuan71 Thank you! (No idea why I didn't notice your reply a week ago, lol) For the time being, I'm friends with just one Estonian, I'm struggling to switch industries and still make a living, and dealing with high Covid in Poland... but Estonia has climbed very high into my bucket list, lol :) (especially getting an autograph from Mr Hendrik Lindepuu, haha :)) In case another Pole sees this comment, I even did a versified relay translation based on the fan translations posted here :) But please don't sign my name on it because not speaking any Estonian and doing this is a disgrace to my profession (that I committed with great delight xD) Pszczoła obleci za kwiatem kwiat, i leci łączyć się z rojem; burzowa chmura spowija świat, a ona łączy się z rojem. I used to sing in my old middle and high school choir, thanks to that I got to sing twice at the Song Festival. Been a couple of years from I last sang though. I think most estonians follow the Song and/or Dance Festival either by singing in the choir, being in the audience, watching it from the TV or going to cheer at the parade of singers while they march through the city to the grounds. I'm also lucky enough to live quite close by. :D
@xwiirastusx @Anteia189 Absolutely, this song has everything an anthem should have, both in tune and lyrics. There are a lot of Estonian songs which move me deeply, of the classical ones it's e.g. "Mu isamaa on minu arm", of the newer songs it's "Palve", "Koit" sung by Tõnis Mägi or "Ilus maa". But this song really sends shivers down my spine, gives me goose bumps and brings tears to my eyes each time I listen to it. Looking at all the people singing it with so much dedication, it's magnificent!
English translation: *It Flies Towards the Beehive* It flies from flower to flower and flies towards the beehive; and a thundercloud rises, it flies towards the beehive. And thousands fall to the road, thousands more reach home and carry away the toil and care and fly towards the beehive. Soul, oh soul, at a difficult time - how you long for the fatherland; whether you are at home, whether in a foreign land - how you yearn for the fatherland And let the wind of death blow against you and the bullet of death fly towards you: you will forget death and care and will hurry towards the fatherland! Soul, oh soul, at a difficult time - how you long for the fatherland; whether you are at home, whether in a foreign land - :;: how you yearn for the fatherland :;:
This beautiful song illustrates so powerfully the value of nationhood. Those who are hell-bent on undermining the nation state, have no understanding of what an important building block it is of human identity. Without them, the world would quickly descend into chaos.
see on ikka tõesti midagi sellist, mille kohta ei leidu sõnu. kaare all laulda on hoopis ikka midagi muud kui lihtsalt vaadata, veel võimsam. nii armas :) see aasta jälle kindlasti
Poor Liiv, he died poor and mad. All the Estonians I've ever met were really nice people (versus the Latvians who seem all mad!), and this song makes those from big and powerful nations like the USA and China feel really lucky, at least they're viing to be global bigboss with all the usual nonsense that comes with it, whilst these Estonians are simply fighting so hard for simple recognition and independence, and no, Estonia doesn't belong to Suomi either!

Very touching from my birthplace, Eesti! My heart fills with emotion and my eyes fill up with tears when I hear this song!
The most beautiful and touching words how this lonely honeybee will always fly towards his beehive-his home and holy place......

I did a very rough calculation, and 100k audience in Estonia is like 2.2M audience in Poland... I'm speechless :)

I got an Estonian flag while I was there in 2014. It's pinned to my wall right now.
Decent chance i sold you that flag :D

I dont have a clue what they are singing but it sounds amazing.

Amazing!
2009 laulupeol, kust see video pärit on, oli see täitsa kavas...
2011 oli spontaanne ja tänu sellele natuke konarlik esitus.. :)
Kui see laul eesti hümniks... Ma ei suudaks laulda sest mul tuleb nutt kurku :'(
Igatahes, Elagu Eesti!
Very Welsh..... for Estonia..
