My first exposure to Bird was 41 years ago on an LP called "The Genius of Charlie Parker, Vol. 3" It contained a couple of takes of "Chi Chi" and "Now's The Time." I was hooked for life.
The Great Master delivers another brilliant performance. Bird never ceases to amaze me. He towers above all other sax players. Beautiful , absolutely beautiful.
I try whistling along as close as possible to his solos but Parker always throws me off with his subtle sinuous melodic bendings, trail-offs and impossibly possible articulation.
Genuine question. As a lover of more modern jazz I want to get into older stuff. And this is just seems to suit my tastes. What style would this fall under. It doesn’t sound like bebop I don’t think.
I woonder if Bird knew that people would still be in awe of his sound, even after almost 70 years!
I have a feeling that he knew.
The more I listen
The more in awe.
Bird, The Goatest of all Goats.
this 👆👆 is 100% legit. Well said haha
Secretly one of the best blues melodies ever written.
Same with Segment!
Agreed 🐬

Cant blame you. He opened my ears too.
@@TimothyVesely and L Ho, add me to that list!!!!!!!!
Echo that! And 'Confirmation' and 'Bloomdido' and 'Kim' and 'Tico Tico' and........
Birds compositional talents are often overlooked.... here is a really good example!
Charlie is divine! Fly Bird Fly !!
Al Haig is so underrated, great comper and soloist.

Sounds like music to my ears, normal blues form but melody that fits a bird blues perfectly, amazing
I know that they're closely related, but I call this jazz and would never think to call it blues. Anyway - whichever way you slice it - it's genius!
Killer tune, second only from “confirmation”. Vintage bird 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Undisputed king of Alto Sax Charlie Parker love this track all 3 takes ive heard are just amazing!.
Is it 3 or 4 takes? Killer tune, nonetheless
I love it. This kind of music will catch on in the future.
Outstanding Chi Chi!
I love this song! ❤
Max Roach on drums. Great composition
Excellent recording.
His sound is the Kansas City Jump Style.
He was influenced by a host of people.
Particularly Lester Young and Charlie Christian.
It is true Bird was heavily inspired by Prez, Coleman Hawkins and others of the sort, but Bird’s language was mostly his own creation!
I try whistling along as close as possible to his solos but Parker always throws me off with his subtle sinuous melodic bendings, trail-offs and impossibly possible articulation.
Bird at his best Still number 1
This is High Art.

What could we look up to listen to it?
Are you sure this is Al Haig on piano? I thought it was Hank Jones, but some sources even say it's Kenny Drew.
Yea defiantly Hank Jones imo.
:)🎶❤

That man Bird.......
Did you added some kind of reverb or delay to the original?
grazie
