Yeah, the 2017 Super Bowl halftime show with Lady Gaga was the first time I saw a drone swarm used like this and I was intrigued, then I saw a the July 15, 2018 Intel drone show and I was as excited as a child watching fireworks for the first time. It was astounding! What amazing possibilities, I thought, there's soon going to be some fantastically creative performances like nothing ever seen before! And instead we get crappy, childish, and completely banal advertising. They've all been terrible, from the Burning Man shows to the "record breaking" shows done in China, terrible. This one included. They're none as good as the Intel show. It doesn't matter if there are 100 drones or 10000 drones, if all they are going to do are silly 2D cartoon clipart and product advertising why bother? We are already over-saturated with product placement and uninspiring graphics, there's just so much more creative potential here. Look at what's being done with projection mapping or laser shows, those are so much more creative than what drone swarms have yet to do. Here's hoping the creatives start doing drone swarms and save us all from the waving SpongBob clipart.
