Cool clear morning,in there an hour before first light, sitting on a rock on a big ridge, smelling the mountain laurels, knowing you're gonna hear 5 or 6 at least and a cup of creamy, sweet coffee hot out of the thermos. Thanking God for making me a turkey hunter and getting to do something most folks could never comprehend or begin to understand what it's like to be a turkey hunter. Do I hate that everyone else can't experience what I get to experience 45 days a year? Hell no,there's too many of us already.
A very old fashioned hunt. But the best kind! Nothing like them steps inching closer to you in the hardwoods to get the heart pumping real hard! Great hunt Dave and great display of downright woodsmanship
And it just keeps getting better Dave. To hear you speak of how the Georgia mountains are one of your favorite places to be hunting turkeys in the world makes me think of and appreciate the beautiful places we as sportsmen get to see and enjoy every season. God is Good. Scotty T.
He stuck that head up between those logs just long enough, you were following his footsteps and had your barrel right on him . Your a better at logistics than calling and your a world class caller. Hats off to you Dave
I’ve always said I’d rather kill one in the hardwoods than 10 from a field. Great hardwoods hunt ! Seemed like we were right there with ya. Outstanding !
Boy that one there was INTENSE!!!! Hearing him closing the gap in those leaves, love it! That spot drum tight right there at the end bout had my heart coming out of my chest. Fantastic as always buddy!
Perfect example of how important gun management is especially on pressured gobblers. Dave had his gun up and shouldered when the turkey took a peek over the log. If he had not been ready, that bird would have took one look, ducked back down and turned around and walked off with the log blocking him. Also great example of soft calling and how effective it is on pressured turkeys ! All beginners should watch this 3 times !! Good job Dave !
Your the man brother , your ethics , woodsman ship, patient's and love for the bird and the hunt is immeasurable ! I've learned a lot from watching you , and your love for the Lord says it all !! He's the 1st one I thank everytime I kill a bird or have an opportunity ! Thanks brother and keep up the excellent work
Awesome hunt Dave 👍. The patience you have is impeccable. The respect for the 🦃 is awesome. Can't wait to get at them in few weeks in Florida. Good luck this season and blow the horn when passing through Pasco county Florida on your way South
Man what an awesome hunt ! Hearing him walking and the drumming. Just the anticipation of where he was gonna pop up ! Gotta love it ! Thanks again for sharing Dave !
Awesome video. Your enjoying the hunt and not worrying about whether your camera is in focus and all that jazz. Basics, you do it like it's supposed to be. Oh yeah.
I know I’m nitpicking here but I’m not a fan of people calling it “government” land. It’s YOUR land. Public land is your land. The American people are the largest landowners in the country. Never forget that. That being said, love your videos man.
Iv turkey hunted for 40yrs and as aggressive hunters we too many times get in a hurry and try to force birds to us. That was a prime example of later morning just like you said, let a turkey do his thing. Most I kill on the road in other states are late morning doing the same thing. Great video great hunt.
I like that you are going after the quality of the hunt, not the quantity....beautiful location and huge old bird, love those spurs, think you should hunt more of the tough birds...I never before put it together that the toms go up after loosing there hens, same thing happens here.....if it is not awesome and cool, special, what is the point...if you ever consider coming to Washington State and pursuing the Washington Slam, maybe you have already done it?....anyways, know where there are all three species, rain forest Eastern, wide open flatland river bottom Rio's and some mountain Merriam's that are really special...
Dave, question. I am not an expert turkey hunter by any means but finally after 12 years of trial and error got my first turkey. but in college I had a friend come with me who was very good. He always told me “turkeys are lazy as crap” and I’ve had turkeys hang up on me with obstacles in the way. With this dead tree in the way, what’s your suggestion for getting them to cross or almost cross that obstacle? Thanks for the great videos and content.
@@pinhotiproject thank you for the response! I will keep this in mind as not everything works out to order like we all plan for. I had one hang up on me before I successfully got one. He came over a clear cut ridge and I was down in a bottom. What I could not see was in the swell was a dead tree that was down but was hidden for all the thick grass in front of the hardwood ridge, and he stopped right there when he could see in the bottom Of the hardwoods and saw no hen. That made me get up on the ridge he came down two days later and I got him/one of the gobblers two days later by cutting them off.
Does a turkey ever come to where you think he will come ? Some of the most excellent footage for a small camera and being self filmed. Keep up the good work. Your owl hoots 10+. I would say that your secret is time spent in the woods. The viewing public sees 30 mins on average. I venture to say that during the season you spend 70% to 80% of the day in the woods without it not being near this exciting. Till the next "Gobble" from ALabama.
What mountains where these? Looks a lot like North Carolina mountains. What a hunt!! I would love to hunt with ya one day. What a Big Bird! Congratulations Ole Buddy.
Thank you for not even saying what state you’re in so far this year on public. You’re one of the few hunting subs I have left. I can’t stand to watch most of these people ruining everything for locals bc of the idiots chasing pins and geolocating videos.
I may mention state names because I feel it's general enough information and I travel to typically a dozen or more per Spring. I have also shown hunts from well over 30 here on the channel. I do take great care and caution to avoid highlighting anyone's location though. Way too much respect for locals to ever put a spotlight on a specific area.
Watched a recent Shane Simpson video where a guy from Alabama was hunting with him a gobbler spotted them at 25yds and ran off....they blamed it on the 'bad luck' Pinhoti hat the guy was wearing....I was gonna buy one but now I'm not sure.... 😂....have a great 2023 Spring!.... I'm a Michigan guy....hunt starts last week April 🦃
If you don't know what that deep inhale is when you hear him in the leaves you have never set a tree in the spring woods... JUST LOVE THE GAME!!!!

It's so quiet you can hear a snail fart! LOL. Good stuff man.
Man hearing them footsteps on the other side of that log had my heart racing. Awesome hunt.
Yep
Love them snail fart mornings. 😂😂 I’m using that one Owens!
Awesome hunt.. good luck this weekend..! Snail farts 😂
And it just keeps getting better Dave.

there just ain't nothin' like sittin' on a mtn. in the spring turkey woods!
I think I’m more excited when they just pop
Up like that than watching them come 200
Yards. Great stuff!!
Us timber hunters know those footsteps in the leaves are an adrenaline rush like no other
I think it's worse than drumming.

Thank you!
Great hunt. Thanks.
That was awesome !! Seemed like you could hear him walking forever.. crappy spot for a blowdown to be!!
Great Hunt Dave,, nothing like them Ol’ Mtn Gobblers, Courtney dropping the hammer too,, great day in the turkey woods!!!
That was a microcosm of typical public hardwood hunting. Great episode !
I noticed that last year beautiful day and heard nothing after the roost but cloudy days the blowed the woods up pretty crazy!!!!
Man hearing that spitting and heavy steps closing in I was all kinds of worked up!!!!
I’ve always said I’d rather kill one in the hardwoods than 10 from a field. Great hardwoods hunt ! Seemed like we were right there with ya. Outstanding !
Absolutely!
I agree.
Damn. That was a great one . Next level audio.. like I was there . 👍
Good stuff! I’ve been there and made a last minute move, only to regret not sticking to my gut feeling Thanks for keeping it real Dave!

Woodsmenship is number one! Always love your videos and perspectives Dave Thanks!

Might be the best turkey hunt I’ve watch on this channel and I’ve seen them all 😂

It's hard to track that leaf crunching sound when the leaves are that dry. Got lucky!
Real experience is almost always Lucky! Still a great hunt to learn from.
You sure did get that Awesome shot on that Turkey Congratulations 3 year old bird

Can't help but get excited with every video. Just a few more weeks and we'll be chasing Thunder Chickens!!
They are not chickens and deserve more respect than being called one. I love hunting TURKEYS and watching them
@@williamhills6039 they're not chickens?
WOW! The audio of him coming through the leaves is unbelievable
Nerve racking.

Quality indeed. And Washington is an old favorite, you'll see some hunt from Washington in a couple weeks.
My favorite way of doing it..

It's best practice to have the gobbler need to come through/ around as little as possible. But the main factor, is being where he wants to be.
@@pinhotiproject thank you for the response! I will keep this in mind as not everything works out to order like we all plan for. I had one hang up on me before I successfully got one. Is this the vest you talked about a few years ago or something new?
Not sure what you're referring to?

Good video !
Dave what sight are you using on you gun?
Burris. I have a video covering the gun setup.
What type of cigar do you toke on there dave
Typically swishers.

Dave how many birds have you shot in your lifetime so far?
Enough to be happy but unfortunately, not satisfied. I always ask to sit down to 1 more, that's the only number I concern myself with.
@@pinhotiproject you are the man

haha! Often the plane gets blamed when we all know that it's the pilot! LoL
@@pinhotiproject saw his follow-up video....Pinhoti Hat boy killed one....the curse has been lifted! ☺
Classic
👍
Get Shane a new hat.
Dave what is the most gobblers you have killed in a single season??
He never shares numbers. It’s a lot though!
Oh yea it’s a lot for sure I would like to be him for a season!!
Episode 25! And no chubbs?! What kinda "project" am I watching?
Btw loved the hunt!
Chubbs to me is like the Vince Vaughn of turkey hunting.
I think you need to revisit the episodes. LoL Chubbs was in several. We started in Florida together and he even joined me in MS for the first time.
