This is the proper level of wood in a salon. You don't feel like you are in a old man's cigar bar but it's also not to be mistaken for IKEA. Those arm chars would be a great place to read a novel.
Yep Toby after first seeing ya in that great Fairlie55 add, this is the first time I have seen you relaxed, maybe all the boats in-between were not up to scratch lol. Good work. Nice boat in that the interior looks like they built it that way cos they can, not cos they have to.
One day il buy one and live in it ..im going to take my wife and kid to see some of this beautiful world.. The perfect cruiser thatl take you anywhere and keep you safe with a beautiful living area too ..❤
I agree with TeeFunkable,, as i have limited experience on board sailboats from my work in 20 + years working in Marine film industry (mostly motorboats, tugs, barges, motor yachts you name it ), but I have a "research" passion this past year reading about blue water sailboats, likes of Hallberg Rassy's , watching videos of "Yaghan" a 62' with a Swedish couple who have sailed her all around the world. Always seem to be drawn back to to Hallberg Rassy as they look so well made, strong sea keeping abilities, again from all the reviews and such that I have read and researched. I have read some stuff on the older original Nautor Swan's being one of the better blue water sailboats also. Someday hope to cross the atlantic on a Hallberg Rassy or similar high quality and solid blue water sailboat. Good to hear opinions and feedback from more experienced Sailors/owners/etc.
I think perhaps this video was shot in "Interlaced" format then converted improperly to Progressive yielding the "comb-edge" shots during pans. Nice to see the performance in light air.
where's me ol' mate beeson? the guy that starts at the bow, points out random interesting things and rifles through 'stowage' of all the owners boats? would love a review of this from him
Perry Gruber Hi Perry. Isn't the Amel 50 interesting! More expensive than this HR 44 - about 25% more for similar setup - but a lot more boat for the money. The 44 would be more fun to sail in pleasant conditions - sportier - but the Amel 50 has so many excellent features, making it look to be better value for money in the end. The four watertight bulkheads (quiet too), the separate pilot cabin, the storage areas, the cockpit that is big enough to stretch out and sleep in! Hmmm, I'll be looking at both, along with the aluminium centreboarders.
I was looking at the aluminum centerboarders too because I liked the lifting feature, but for all the reasons you describe I think I’m going to go for the Amel. I agree about sailing the 44 in pleasant conditions, but the Amel is around seeming a better boat. And, as you say, better value for the money in the end. Thanks for your reply!
Love to see more Hallberg Rassy reviews under sail and with more details shown on engine room, electronics, systems etc, Toby's alright though, although sometimes seems a bit worn out on some of is vid's - maybe a good on board expresso shot before rolling the camera, just give us some more Blue water sailboats Toby! thx
Would it be easy/possible to change the forward pullman/v berth into one double berth with an on suite? And the shower in the master verges on a wet head which I HATE. Would definitely sacrifice some space elsewhere for a bit of a larger shower if I were doing anything long duration.
As long as all the "push button", electric and retractbale stuff works, sure. Once that in-mast furler for that battened sail completely jams just as the wind kicks up badly.... And/or your truster(s) sticks in a tight spot.... Of all brands, HR, and Amel, are the two I would trust the most wrt all such high end mod cons. They're the ones who have been, and are, installing them in meaningful numbers of boats and hence getting feedback. On account of the market segments they cater to. But still: At some point something will go wrong. On a fairly conservative 37, perhaps even 40, footer; you can likely manhandle things if you have to. Doubly so if you are intimately familiar with how to do so, since that's how you always do things on your fully "manual" boat anyway. But the catch is: The size of boat most (generally older) people who can afford a new HR can handle manually, is much smaller than the size they want to be living in long term (people with new-HR-mone are a spoiled lot....). Hence, blind trust in "systems" built and installed and tested, no doubt to the highest of standards, by Magnus Rassy and crew, is where it's at.....
Yes you can np, but you got to have a bit of knowledge in sailing. The great thing about this boat, is that, the H&B name has a huge owners club. All over the world you can find members who are willing to help you out. And the boat itself are made with a lot of input from the owners club. And you could be lucky to find an older boat, on the "cheep"
It's the same bad quality in all his videos. Embarrassing for Yachting World... well they're the ones that reheat 5 year old videos on their FB page every second month.
I'd pay for it, if it was good quality content. Look at Delos, they're producing top quality stuff from literally the most remote places on earth. People pay for it.
Several years ago they did a really cool piece on the Gunboat. So either 1.) they're on an extremely tight budget, 2.) no one there knows anything about video production and they have little time or 3.) all of the above. Hell, I'd help them out for free to get them started .. get their social media media and production game on point if they get me on a few of these boats. .. .. Most of you guys dont realize how much time it takes to do these productions.Obviously the more time you spend the better the production.. They are very time consuming to go on location film, edit upload tags, keywords etc. its a lot of work.
The interior simply doesn't reflect the luxury and class of this boat. I would expect some glamour. Besides I think chart table should be larger and the aft berth could be more rectangular. Looks like there is enough space for both.
Hallberg Rassys have always been understated, something that I prefer, and they leave the glamour to Nautor and Contest and such these days. I know the market as a whole nowadays prefers a little more flash in design, even Najad has gone in that direction, but to some of us classy means less garish. I know that is a subjective opinion less widely shared these days. As for the aft berth, I think the two berth version is the proper sailors version, the centre berth more for dockside sleeping. Lots of new 44 footers have no chart table at all or a much smaller convertible one- to my eye this one is decent at this length. Full size charts, for those few of us that still have them, seem to get spread out on the settee table now.
Magnus, PLeaeaeaSE change this awful milky hatch over the front head. If a stranger manages to get to the front of my boat unexpectedly and uninvitedly I have much bigger problems than being seen pizzing or pooping.
Why do you constantly do reviews like this and start with the "no breeze" nonsense. This was six years ago and since then you did this for the HR 50, the X yachts (3 times) and for some other sailboats. We want to see it in a proper blow. Stop doing these planned no-wind reviews as they don't tell us what we want to know.
Something about this guy makes me think he is at the beginning stages of Parkinson Disease or something like that. There is just something not right with him.
Hi Esquire. Hmmm - there's something about your original comment that makes me think it's good you're not a doctor. Imagine being on the receiving end of a diagnosis like yours! However, you've demonstrated that you could make a truly excellent politician. :-) Go for it!
Valden, your mind is broken. Doctors say it like it is, they don't hold back and they do not give false hope. There was nothing "political" about what I said or the way I said it. There was no manipulation or talking two sides of the issue. Blatant statement the way I see it.
Hello Esquire. You are correct. Doctors say it like it is and they don't hold back. However, you would not be impressed, I think, if your doctor said to you, 'Ah, Mr Esquire. Please, take a seat. Now, the tests are back and reveal that you have brain cancer or something like that. There is just something not right with you.' Do tell me if I'm wrong. :-)
I worked in a Doctors office for 2 years... that is exactly what they would do. Also, they would be objective about it. The emotions you think a doctor should have is exactly why doctors don't treat their own loved ones. I have also been in an emergency room when a doctor came out and told a family their son was brain-dead. It's obvious you have never been around the medical field.
Truly amazing to see a boat this size move in no wind. Truly a testament to good hull design. .
1:08 So it's doing 3.75 knots from 2.3 knots TWS and 4.6 knots AWS. Pretty handy. And this at 30 degrees from the wind. Nice.
This is the proper level of wood in a salon. You don't feel like you are in a old man's cigar bar but it's also not to be mistaken for IKEA. Those arm chars would be a great place to read a novel.
Beautiful job as always Toby.
Impressive. Feels museum quiet. He’s whispering, and I’m holding my breath.
MORE Hallberg Rassy reviews please !!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW this is such a tranquil video - I would love to see more sailboat tours recorded in this sort of condition. Great work, thanks for sharing!!
Yep Toby after first seeing ya in that great Fairlie55 add, this is the first time I have seen you relaxed, maybe all the boats in-between were not up to scratch lol. Good work. Nice boat in that the interior looks like they built it that way cos they can, not cos they have to.

Beautiful sailboat
A safe sail when you got Magnus Rassy at the helm :)
I think perhaps this video was shot in "Interlaced" format then converted improperly to Progressive yielding the "comb-edge" shots during pans. Nice to see the performance in light air.
I am your big ❤️
Excellent review very objective and helpful
where's me ol' mate beeson? the guy that starts at the bow, points out random interesting things and rifles through 'stowage' of all the owners boats? would love a review of this from him
different mag. and (UA-cam channel)
what a nice boat❤️ real class
Une Hallberg-Rassy, c’est de la classe!
Great presentation Toby. What are they pegging the price to as demonstrated? I’ve been swayed by the Amel 50, but this one still catches my interest
Perry Gruber Hi Perry. Isn't the Amel 50 interesting! More expensive than this HR 44 - about 25% more for similar setup - but a lot more boat for the money. What about Bestewind 50? The best of both worlds. It isn't as expensive as it looks like, about 460 000 £.
Love a good wide boat
Love to see more Hallberg Rassy reviews under sail and with more details shown on engine room, electronics, systems etc, Toby's alright though, although sometimes seems a bit worn out on some of is vid's - maybe a good on board expresso shot before rolling the camera, just give us some more Blue water sailboats Toby! thx

Is that Magnus Rassy at the helm?
yes
Why is this footage still interlaced?
Could you single hand a boat that length?
As long as all the "push button", electric and retractbale stuff works, sure.

can you sail around the world on this ?

the guy from the wheel seem familiar
Where's the solar panels?
Perhaps on boats not built next to the North Pole.....
When did they go to a twin rudder system?
I think the video encoding messed up? It's got strange blurring.
Toby is using his phone ( I think).
I think its some sort of stabilization.
It's the same bad quality in all his videos. Embarrassing for Yachting World... well they're the ones that reheat 5 year old videos on their FB page every second month.

That is lovely!!
Was this shot in La Rochelle?
I'm learning to sail in a 34 which is more like a Volvo. This is a Rolls Royce
I see Mr. nielsens photo and I😂🤣😂🤣😂
not a lot of protection at the helm station from splashes
Good!
Saving my pennies......
Me too! But I'm Canadian 🙁
We have a saying in Texas, life is not worth living without a good blow, lmfao, Semper Fi and Erin go Braugh
It can be a good hull but I'm not impressed with the interior.
I love that interior- much better than that plastic crap that the cheapo manufacturers use for their interiors these days. It's beautifully finished.
I actually like the interio lay out just not the materials/color scheme.
The interior simply doesn't reflect the luxury and class of this boat. I would expect some glamour. Besides I think chart table should be larger and the aft berth could be more rectangular. Looks like there is enough space for both.
Yeniden Ben true plus I'm willing to sacrifice some storage for more comfortable accommodations. Some.

PLEASE. FOR. THE. LOVE. OF. GOD. Encode your vids properly.
Good boat, I like it, if you have one not needed give to me, I will be grateful to you)
I wish Toby would get a job, sell used cars or somthing. He never says anything negative or gives any details on peformance.
Magnus, PLeaeaeaSE change this awful milky hatch over the front head. If a stranger manages to get to the front of my boat unexpectedly and uninvitedly I have much bigger problems than being seen pizzing or pooping.
0:40 nice you had a good night, but maybe you should better wake up before making a video !
lol ok karen

Toby never sailed a boat he didn't like. What a Jerk.
Yes you are pretty BUT not that pretty LOL get off the screen
Something about this guy makes me think he is at the beginning stages of Parkinson Disease or something like that. There is just something not right with him.
Thanks! And you are an aborted fetus that crawled out of the bucket.
