      That stat means nothing. It also doesn’t account for the first six years of his career, when he would go to the second base side of the bag to make plays. You fools believe whatever you’re told by “experts”.

    Jeter kind of reminds me of Brady in the sense that both weren't the best athletically or dominated in stats. Both just understood that leadership was really important and winning was everything.

But you add 5 rings, a lifetime .310 batting average (309 in the full season he played in the playoffs) 5 gold gloves. ROTY World Series MVP all the iconic moments. Calling Derek Jeter overrated is just dumb. The Yankees became the Yankees because of Jeter. He was always in the middle. Statistics don't measure half of what Derek Jeter was. He would been the focal point of a highly successful team no matter where he played. He was that good. Anyone who says he was overrated just doesn't know baseball.

    I am a Derek Jeter fan boy. He's my 2nd favorite athlete of all time, behind Hakeem Olajuwon. I cried when he hit his walk off RBI during his last game a Yankees Stadium. He is a childhood hero and was a great HOF player. However depending on what you are talking about, he could be considered to be overrated. He was never great defensively, especially in his older age and while he was great contact hitter, there are other SS who were also better at the plate. The whole, if Jeter played in Kansas City he'd be is just plain asinine. Great is great no matter where you play. Wearing the Pinstripes is not what made him great, he was great and also happened to be a Yankee. Was he more famous because of it, absolutely, however, his numbers speak for themselves. For every person who believes his numbers suffer from inflation because he was a Yankee I say there are people, like McLovin, who deflate the value of his numbers because he was a Yankee. You don't see anyone diminishing the accomplishments of George Brett or Paul Molitor or Robin Yount or Cal Ripken or Barry Larkin and the like and THEY all played in small markets and I'd argue that Jeter had a better career than all of them. The only accomplishment they had over Jeter was an MVP but it was kind of hard for any player who wasn't a power-hitter to get enough votes during Jeter's prime. You take away all the guys that were linked to steroids and I guarantee Jeter would have gotten at least one. Some of these so-called, educated baseball fans seemingly suffer from an idiotic reverse-bias. But don't take my word for it, Jason Stark has so painstakingly done the work for me in this column(written back when Jeter played his last games) that you can read here:
    www.espn.com/blog/jayson-stark/post/_/id/952/ten-astounding-derek-jeter-numbers
    And if those numbers don't enlighten you all I can say is that your envy, jealousy, ego and/or stupidity has blinded you. Jeter wasn't the greatest baseball player who ever lived but he certainly wasn't overrated either . . .

Now if you take his career OBP of 377 and compare it to every current MLB second baseman Jeter would rank... checks notes... Oh first in the league. And before you cry about slugging if he played today he would have the same advanced analytics and training as players have today and would likely have a different approach that allowed for more power and he would hit 280 instead of his 310 career batting average.

      @ABC55 DFIHJ You are using one or two stat to justified your argument. Jeter played for a long time does not mean he is a great player. Yes, someone can player shorter than be a great player. Jeter is a long-term good/average player for most of his career. Clearly, nothing I am saying you are taking into account. Your opinion is already back up and you are cherry-picking your stats in order to prove your point.

      @ABC55 DFIHJ Jeter won one title post-2000, after those 90s Yankees teams. 2009, so does that mean he was a great player? Nope. He played a long time, like 20 seasons, for the same team, and was average/above average during that span never did he reach being a great player.
      He is super popular and probably is a player who you remember the best at his position.

      King Me no it’s actually factually correct. His dWAR is atrocious and his DRS is the worst in baseball history. Second is prince fielder ( a guy who was 300 pounds and ate a dude’s nachos during a game). And this is jeter playing shortstop, where you are supposed to be the best defensive player on the field. Is Derek jeter a hall of famer? Absolutely. One of the best offensive SS of all time, made a lot of clutch plays. But he is not upper echelon HOF or undisputed, first ballot like people make him out to be. Reason being is that his defense wasn’t just below average, rather it was flat out atrocious and embarrassing

    • @110Tennisstar
      @110Tennisstar 3 роки тому

      King Me those 5 gold gloves are based on outdated stats, selection bias on the good plays he did make, and the fact he was in a market like NY. Fact is, most people who actually understand and watch baseball ( not someone who just watches and get their information from ESPN) understand that jeter was garbage as a fielder. Again, he is a HOF player and one of the most clutch and best offensive SS of all time. But to say he was a good defender and ignore the metrics just means you either don’t know what you are talking about or are a die hard Yankees fan who is willing to die on a hill for their player. which I can understand but everyone else will know that you aren’t making sense by calling him a good defensive SS
