It's so fun seeing all your accessories! I use a stand that I can have above my lap- I think it's called a scroll stand. It has stretcher bars that you velcro the canvas to and you can adjust the tension. I like it because it I don't have to hold the canvas. No matter how hard I tried to keep my hands clean, I was always getting my canvas dirty! Also, it doesn't leave hoop marks. Maybe the sponge was to store needles- like a pin cushion. As long as you have allowed a little for the border, finding the center doesn't have to be like finding the exact square. I usually fold my aida in half lengthwise and widthwise and when you unfold you can see the center.🌈

Thanks so much Kelly and yes the hoop marks can get a little crazy lol. And sometimes I see others start at the top left corner of their projects and wonder how it ends up coming out centered.

Hey Susie! I love that your working so hard to learn the art of cross stitch. I thought I would offer a suggestion where your needle is concerned. I notice you are using an embroidery needle cause you liked the point, which is perfectly fine if that is what you prefer. No stitch police here 😂 However if you do ever want to try Lugana or Linen you’ll want to use the blunt tapestry needle (but again…. It’s what you prefer). But the sharp needle can easily split the thread of the fabric and then your stitches will be off. If you wanted to try a needle that is more like a cross stitch needle but pointed. I would suggest the Chenille Needle. Probably a size 24 or 26.
But like I said. Keep using stuff. Trial & Error is the best teacher.
On your Question…. On your chart in the book. Are there little numbers along the far left outside the outer line of the chart? If so, you would go down to that number on the page with the top arrow on it and go down to that line. If not.. just count down from the top to the arrow of the page with the side arrow on it then go to the page with the top arrow on it and count down the same amount from the top arrow. Man…. That’s hard to explain in text.
    You rock! 🌈

Thanks so much for the tips I do appreciate it, I didn’t even realize that’s what I was using. I will look into the needle brands you suggested. 😀

New subscriber here. I love your whole vibe. I found cross stitching this year. I was/am into diamond painting but then found cross stitching and it has become my obsession. I do stamped kits. There is a counted winter one I have and will start in December. I think (don’t hold me to this) if you find where the red lines intersect on the pattern that is your center. So it may not be on page one or two. I know that you can’t show us the pattern to help us answer better. Maybe you can reach out to your SAL group or the people who made it if you don’t find it? 🤷🏽‍♀️ Anyhoo I’m so happy to have found your channel😊🌈

Oh thanks so much, this made me smile, I'm so happy to know someone else is just starting to learn this amazing craft. Most people I see have been doing it for years so they have it down. But being a newbie it's a whole other language LOL.
