Loss of Leaf- Sweet Potato Quandary: Is The Plant Dead or Live?

Despite my best efforts to water a feed my sweet potato vines the bugs got the best of them. So I will wait and see if they make a recovery from loss of leaf!

I'm not an expert about the potatoes. But I think maybe the ground might be to wet. Correct me if I'm wrong
