How i see this song: I see this as a bad ending to twiddlefinger. Max will never be able to connect with the nugget cause hes dead. The nugget singing in the song is just a hallucination of max's guilt for killing the nugget.

Basically he was friends with Nugget, but other people said that their friendship is nonsensical (cause the subtitles said "You shouldnt spend time dwelling on things like these" during the gift section). Max basically got obsessed but in the end he basically had to move away or something, maybe its the opposite. Due to his obsession he kept writing letters and then upon trying to confess his love, he started hallucinating different weird scenarios. At the end, he realizes that he is beyond obsessed and just writes "I miss you" as perhaps, the last letter. You can even say, it was his Ode to a Friend
