The Mercedes-Benz C11 is a Group C prototype race car introduced for the 1990 World Sports-Prototype Championship. Built by Sauber as a successor to the Sauber C9, the C11 used the same Mercedes-Benz M119 5.0L twin-turbo V8. It was the first time that Mercedes-Benz chose to put their name on the car, instead of simply using Sauber. Back in the 1990's Tamiya released kit 58088, a 1/10th RC of the iconic C11 racing car. Well lucky enough we are able to purchase this stunning kit again in 2022.

I painstakingly piece together the chassis, the body, the wing over the past year or two and then they re-released it! The Daytona models used this chassis. Some Nissan and Toyota versions as well. Great stuff as always. Motivation brother!

I know there was a re-released version (finished body version) available only in Japan😢 in around 2006

Got the mazda 787b poorly fitted to my 3racing sakura chassis. Best compromise between fit and fun factor. Cant tell when its wizzing past on a carpark

I don’t think you will be disappointed with an XRAY that’s for sure. I must get one on the show.
I think it's actually a great idea to use the matt finish at the end to blend it all in. I would have gone with a slightly lighter gunmetal.
I just built one of these and absolutely love it. I actually ended up buying another two, which I am going to build as the XJR-12 and the Nissan R91CP (changing wheels, getting body kits). That way you get a new chassis (rather than NIB at silly prices) and the other cool shells in this lineup and two spare C11 bodies. I thought about the Mazda too, but four sounded excessive :-). At first I was worried that the chassis would be boring but it's actually a really nice chassis and runs super well out of the box. I also went with Super Stock RZ motors in all and Hobbywing 1060 ESCs. Perfect match for these guys I think. Tamiya really should do more of these cars (the Jag, the Nissan and the Mazda) - they look amazing and command ridiculous prices on eBay. As you mentioned, they also really need to release the driver and cockpit to round off the scale look. -Tamiya really should do a lot more on the driver/cockpit front (for M-Chassis too) given that their niche is in scale models. Many of us that build Tamiya build them at least partly because of the scale looks and the ability to drive a great looking car. A driver is a must for kits like this and they often have the molds etc. Paying 100 pounds and more for a couple of bits of plastic (which is what the driver and cockpit go for on eBay) is silly.
Yep for sure, I hope we see a few more option parts and the other cars on this chassis.

Iv'e now built mine and loved it, but I can't believe Tamiya cheaped out on front brass bushings for the wheels and plastic bushes for the diff! on a limited kit too, quick trip on evilbay sorted this out.
Might monster/blitzer beetle mirrors be a close substitute? 🤔 looks great in the darker matt silver.

I hope someone comes up with another wing option. Obviously it ran different wings depending on the circuit. The high speed low drag wing looks so much better than the one Tamiya did. Want it to look kinda like my Kyosho Mini-z Merc C9.

Okay, if I ever get this chassis, the first thing i'll change is the steering linkage. I remember this exact setup from my Grasshopper and how bad it was to adjust properly...
This really kicks XXX!!! Will get mine tommorrow and fit the Acto power formula motor in it ;-) I wonder, if you finish it off spraying it with clearcoat on top of the decals, would that help to protect the body in the long term having the decals covered by the coat? If so, on should do it with all the bodies, right? I have been thinking about that one for some time, but my skills with bodies are quite limmited.
looking for some advice on this kit please, does the Alu motor mount part no 54166 fit this car? have been told yes it does but someone else said it does not, can anyone say for sure? many thanks.

My main issue is these bodies are beautiful and I wish Tamiya wouldn’t predrill them for posts. I’d love to see them do a basic new pan chassis and do a legitimate Porsche 917. I’d love to see both a LeMans version as well as the super hyped Can-Am version (Sunoco blue yellow and red livery)

I need help! you purchased a metal motor mount and I purchased the blue Motor mount and the left side piece. Plastic inserts allow you to raise or lower the ride height, and I can't figure out what bearings are in those plastic inserts. Are they 5mmx10mmx4mm or 5mmx10mmx3mm or 5x11x4 or what? Hlp this person did the same hop up but he never shows that part in the build. I also had to buy the F104 clamp-type wheel hub. OP1240 I still can't assemble this rear end. I need the bearings and can't tell what I need to buy.
Hey buddy great build!!! I’m struggling to stretch the tyres on properly any tips?
Put the double sided tape on the rims first but don't remove the tab exposing the sticky back, just peel it back a little. Slide the foam on and when the tyre is in the correct place, pull the tape cover strip out from under the foam tyre.
Anyone knows the function of the two A3 parts? They were also on the 1990s release but I couldn't figure out why Tamiya put them on the sides of the tub. Thank you.

My parts bin. The exhaust parts are copper damper spacers.

Of course I used a TA04R chassis bumped up to pro gear but still.
Does anyone actually know If it's really necessary to mask of the front part or are there decals speciffically for the frontpart?

When you do the flat clear on the outside do you tape the windows so they stay unpainted?

Tape and I get mine off eBay. It's OK but not amazing.

Dear Gav, did you matt coat over the trim lining tape as well as the windscreen or did you mask off the outside of the windscreen and apply the trim tap after the matt coat? Great build by the way. very well done, truly enjoying your content, great channel and keep up the great work.
Hi, I masked off the windows and the lights and went over everything else. I matt clear the car before the decals and then again once finished.
Excellent work with the body. Why can't they get the offset on the wheels correct on these kits! It drives me crazy. Make it like the race car we are trying to model!
Tamiya screw up the wheel offset all the time as well as the wheelbase now and again for some random reason

Hi, silver first, next white and then black. Smoke the windows if you want next. Last step is to fit the decals and then mask up the windows and lights on the outside. Spray the flat clear on the outside. Done

Just wondering, what's meant by 'pan car'? Is it related to the way the diff, motor, suspension is arranged?
That is correct. The motor pod is connected to the main chassis by a T-bar which can flex. Direct drive to a stiff rear axle & small springs on the front. Less setup possibilities compared to a touring car and harder to drive. These things go fast!

Gav what is the gadget for checking the servo
Servo tester. Not only that but you can quickly centre the servo before fitting it into the car without connecting up all the electronics.

At 2:37 I see you used o-rings on both screws. I have seen this on many build videos of this kit, but manual shows only 1 used and only the rear screw. Is there a reason for doing this ? more flex? or a mistake? just curious here.

Amazing job on the car i have a tamiya F104 pro 2. Do you recommend this C11 kit over the F104 Pro 2? I was looking to get one for 140 of amainhobbies if not i was gonna buy another Tamiya F104 Pro 2 kit again and change the body

Unfortunately I don't have enough time for all my own projects lol, let alone others. Sorry Josh :) Plus if I can do it, so can everyone else. The key is to go slow and focus on each detail step by step. When painting, less is more for each coat.

Group C chassis is so basic this kit should be hopper money. The body look fantastic though.
