  • In this video, we explore the ways to carry money while traveling. There are a ton of methods (and certainly no right and wrong ways), but here are the ways (and wallets) that I use when traveling abroad.

    Another tip - wrap the bills in plastic before you stash them in the belt. Otherwise sweat and friction may turn them into worthless confetti.

    I carry a fake wallet filled with fake credit cards and yes, fake cash of 100$ I got from ebay. I then keep my regular money in my front pocket. If you get pick pocked, the bad guy now has fake cash that looks real!! If he cashes it in, he's BUSTED!! BAM

      Another tip is if my hotel doesn't have a safe, I'll get some tape from the front counter with an envelope and tape cash and passport under a drawer or under a table. Some lamps have a velvet cardboard bottom that can easily be removed. Shower curtain rods are hollow and is a great place to hide a wad of cash.

    Hello, great videos I'm a fan!
    I need a wallet or similar to carry my passports (2) and debit/credit cards all together, that I carry on neck. Do you know any of this kind?

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  6 років тому +1

      Thanks Erick! To be honest, I don't normally use a neck wallet (only because I prefer to have a more traditional pocket wallet), but I think they can be a great way to carry your stuff safely. A friend of mine swears by one that he bought from Amazon that was fairly inexpensive: amzn.to/2F79uCk

    Vietnamese Dong??? OMG I miss Vietnam. I know how silly I was with the denominations and how the locals would wave their hands and take only what was the correct amount when I the idiot would be absolutely astounded by how they knew!!! I finally got a VP Bank card, but I never worried about being swindled.

    I have two moneybelts. One beneath my normal belt. It contains up to nine 500 Euro bills. One beneath my trousers around my waist at the back. Contains about 2000 dollar. Then I have two wallets. One for bills, the other for coins. In places like Cambodia I have a third wallet for notes below 1000. Credit cards are carried at my hip in a leather wallet together with my mobile. The cards are stacked between other cards for camouflage. My passport is at another place, the flight tickets at again another. This way never anything together gets lost or stolen.

Under lamps, side of bed or bed frames, taped under chairs, couches or cabinets. Inside dummy deodorants. Slice a small thin gap in finine higiene maxipads/tampons/adult or child diapers -within the packaed bags. Bathrobes. Under the fridge.

And these are relatively simple methods to protect yourself or your families traveling currency. CC are good but not in every country, cash, Gold or a frequently used commodity, like food usually gets me an advantage when negotiating with locals for VIP ,no line/ backdoor entrance, protection from predators that dedicate their full time efforts and lifestyle in making ends meet from Travelers. @@descendanttravels7639 In twenty years travelling in Asia I experienced ONE failed attempt at direct robbery. Tip 1. For example this month in Cambodia I offered a share ride from the airport into Phom Penh with the taxi to a couple from Germany. Safety in numbers. Tip 2. I don't wander inebriated through dark alleys in the middle of the night. Tip 3. In case of a robbery attempt I would pull out the wallet and throw it on the ground. When it is picked up either run or kick into that stupid face. Tip 4. Another important advice - feel free to walk away from any person or situation if your belly tells you so, no need for excuses or reasoning, if then followed get very loud, threaten with police, get the attention of bystanders.

      +rohanzo1 It depends on what you're doing and where you're visiting in LA. Most restaurants and establishments will accept credit cards, but places where I often get stuck paying cash is parking and smaller food stalls (e.g., at Grand Central Market in Downtown LA). Also, you may need cash to pay for fuel if you're renting a car since our pumps often struggle with foreign credit cards.
