I lived in Tacoma Washington back around 2011, and ended up doing a bit of freelance music journalism. I was tasked with reviewing Grouper, which proved to be one of the best experiences I ever had. I don't know if I ever would have found out about LIz Harris and her incredible music if not for that gig. It's absolutely transformative. Needless to say my review was unabashedly gushing, and I didn't care.
shade is out! I loved it so so much. Very up there. I haven't heard every Grouper album but it's in the top 3. It was first for a bit, but i don't know what awaits me in her discography.
I was there too!!! One of my las Primavera Sounds and one of my favourite times in 10 editions. How happy I am to be able to remember this concert. Thanx!!!!
Thanks for this video, I loved seeing it live but being the end of Primavera I kept falling asleep. Though, it's probably the best music to be slightly hazy for. It's a beaut!
Anyone know what her equipment is in this set? Specifically curious what she's noodling with in the fadeout of the first one after she stops playing the piano
Tape loops. She usually has about 4 cassette recorders (walkmans) in her live setup. What you hear are different layers of cassette tape stacked upon each other, and most probably used in conjunction with delay and reverb pedals. It's a delicate dance, where new sounds constantly join in, as others take back seat within this moving frame. Like the scenery from behind the windows of a moving train. The trees speed on by, while the distant mountain always remains.
all of it.at the same time. hey, that would be a good one...4 of yr friendz press 'play' when priest(judging by yr name, you were probably raised cat-holic) startz with hiz pseudo-magik mumbo-jumbo. using a funeral as subversion..hehe.

@@parv6683 I'll try, but that was a long time ago... recalling the name of the blog is proving to be a difficult experience. LOL
Did you find it? I wanna read it too
@@davipereira5042 no. I couldn't find the website. Kind of a bummer, because I wrote a bunch of reviews for that online music magazine.
Have you found it??

the set consists in extended versions of those three songs
love her
I’ve looked everywhere for the extended poison tree. It doesn’t even sound similar. Id love to find it
@@BLKHRT1 i think she only does this live
Wow I NEED to see her live. So spiritual.
I saw her this summer (2015) live in Helsinki and became an instant fan. And the week after emptied the local record store of her music
I envy you
watching this in preparation for the new album, absolutely stunning artist that I can’t believe I didn’t find sooner.

That "Alien Observer performance" is like an astral travel.
All her music brings back memories from when I used to listen to Grouper when I was still at schooll 😎
Listening to this while in my school library. So beautiful.
I love the black and white effect you put on it.
It's mandatory that all Grouper videos and images are in B&W.
Literally listening to this in the dark, in my room all by myself
Reminds me of the incidental music of Wagner. Dreamy emotional, evoking future action, Patient and moving. Thanks Liz.
I was there and liz hypnotized me
I bet whoever she accidentally made eye contact with that night felt like a million bucks ,
Pseudonym No man, like a bitcoin 😄
I made eye contact with Sophie from gy!be once, will never forget that.

Grouper makes me love myself for being a sentimental "cheesy" person
stunning ....
We are capable of such beautiful dreams, and such terrible nightmares.

Not nearly long enough. I'm not complaining but damn I really want an hour when I see her in June.
Every night since 2014

This is what dreams are made of.
A Grouper concert a day keeps the doctor away
Her music takes me to another world, when i hear her songs I imagine that I am floating in space and that's enough to make me happy 🤍
I LOVE IT!!!!

Someone knows the name of music played at 8:00 and foward?
poison tree I think if I’m not wrong
her song is my post-apocalyptic soundtrack
The postrock feeling is strong. Its like we look up to sky and do nothing while a planet killer asteroid is crashing down
Do any grouper fans know what song is at the 14:50 mark?
I think it is Poison Tree.
poison tree
Now i don't know which music to play at my funeral: Liz Harris's , Julianna Barwick or Sigur Ros. Or just stick with Roger waters

I'd like to here her collaborations with the TeXas Doom Band LecH!
This reminds me of LecH's song Waterwalker.....
They played together at the Guggenheim years ago. Amazing show
What happened to her?
Idk I can’t find anything about her
She still makes music and art, she's just very private with her life and doesn't share much about it.
Does anyone know the names of the songs that she played in the video ?
alien observer, poison tree, come softly 🌚
Track before "Come Softly", starting around minute 15:00?
