- This is the FIRST EVER version of Football Manager…
Look at how different it is…
It’s so green and even Manchester United are good!
My goal for this video is to win the Premier League with the team that finished bottom in the 2004/05 season Southampton.
And I’m going to give myself five seasons to get the job done.

I have always made content throughout my professional career, however, it has always been for someone else. In May 2020 I decided that it was time to create something for myself. Football Manager has always been a game that I have loved so wanted to take this opportunity to share some of the tips and tricks that I've learnt!
--------------------------------------
#FootballManager #FM05 #FM25
We’re back baby!!
Glad to have you back.
Euro Vase was the Intertoto Cup thing.
There he is!! Hell yea!
FM 2006 next? :>
Good to see u back mate always watch your vids
C’mon, Kevin Toms’ Football Manager was the OG back in the 80s
And it's available as an app now ❤
Link me please Chris!!
@HoodGamingUK it's on play store for android and wherever you get stuff for iPhone. It's 4.99
Championship Manager 96/97 for me was the first 'Football Manager' game. Though my first manager game ever was Kevin Keegans Player Manager. What a game that was!
Need to try and find that game now 🤣🤣
Kevin Keegan manager game was class for its time.
LMA Manager was also very very good 👍
Aye I played kevin keegan on the snes, guy at school gave me a loan of it lol
You guys make me consider using my computer again.
Wish there was CM or FM for my PlayStation4…
The genre itself goes further back to 1982 with Football Manager for the ZX Spectrum created by Kevin Toms.
You’re technically correct and technically wrong at the same time. FM05 is just a yearly update on championship manger 4 (2004). The youngsters saying it’s a different game might not know the history.
The developers split from the publisher, eidos. They owned the match engine and eidos owned the name. They took their match engine and rebranded as football manager. Eidos created a new game under the CM name. Most fans followed the game rather than the name. I don’t think championship manager is still going.
Im still trying to figure out the Diablo to this day! This game was very complex
exactly!!
Aaaah FM 05 where I always tried to sign: Vincent Kompany, Carlos Tevez, Igor Akinfeev, Lukas Podolski, Billy Jones, Kostantyn Yaroshenko, Philipp Lahm, Wayne Rooney & CR7
I think I attempted to sign every one of these in that video
Akinfeev the goat, still in the same club
Damn that start screen and Anthony Vanden Borre are a real blast from the past. Started my FM journey back with Championship Manager 92/93.
And which is your favourite one to date?
@@HoodGamingUK Not saying it's the best version but sank 1000s of hours into FM 2011. Best memories are Championship Manager 2 with my 3 mates. Gave up our summer in 96 (after finishing school) to dominate the Premier league and Europe with Man U, Forest and Newcastle. I was Forest and clawed back 11 points over final 10 games to beat my mate who was managing Man U. I did it for Kevin cos we did love it when we beat them with Gary Croft getting 48 assists 🙂
I also players that manager but my favorite 01/02 still playing today
Igor Atkinfeev what a FM legend!
This was my favourite fm of all time. The balance of this game was perfect. I still remember a regen I had with Barcelona. Bostjan Strucl. A Slovakian DM. Awesome. Championship manager 97/98 is the best though. The lovely art work/pics in the background makes me almost cry of happiness. Wonderful memories
Played this game to death! In fact I went from this to FM24 and played nothing in between! I always played 4-2-3-1 with two DMs and three AMs rather than using wingers. Usually started with either PSV or Palermo. Won everything over the years. It was your channel that encouraged me to take the plunge with FM24. Thank you!!
Thank you Paul - that means a lot!
There’s a glitch with the tactics where you push most players running forward….
Welcome back mate, hope all is well and healthy in your life ! also blast from the past , the retro days , very nostalgic
Feeling great thank you. Healthy, happy and refreshed
Welcome back, Steve. I loved these series. Brings back sleepless nights to win that Prem with Liverpool and the Champions League with Steaua Bucuresti. Would love to see more of this nostalgia Football Manager games. Maybe an Eastern Challenge? There are some cracking players in Central and Eastern Europe on 07 especially. A wonderkid Luka Modric, Rene Mihelic (never saw the guy in real life, but he was amazing in FM) , the Polish starlets from Legia Błaszczykowski and Fabianski. Love to see you back with content. And my first FM was CM 4. Yes, i am old.
I’m working on a few things with some other games
@@HoodGamingUK can you do an tottenham rebuild on fm 05
Worth noting that Football Manager was just a rebrand of Championship Manager - a series which started in the 90’s. There was a split between Sports Interactive (the developer) and Eidos (the publisher). SI kept the game code/design while Eidos kept the branding. SI’s game was rebranded as Football Manager and for a while Eidos tried releasing new “Championship Manager” games made by another developer but most people knew the real game was now Football Manager and thus Eidos gave up and left SI to it with Sega having become their new publisher.
On 06 Eddie Johnson from Kanas city wizards was always a massive bargain. £1 mill and was always good for goals
Will have to check him out
Championship manager 92 is were it all started for me as a 10 year old lad on the Amiga hahaha
I really want to try and play these types of games as well
Welcome back you have been missed and how to come back the memories come flooding back
Thanks man - picked a good time eh? 🤣
You've got to play champ manager for the first version. The creators took the engine and moved it to Football Manager.
Good to see you back mate!
Hope that means things are better.
Loving the retro content - brings back fond memories.
If you do more saves on this version, some great shouts would be porto, valencia, real sociedad & lyon
All amazing suggestions
Wow, this brings back memories.
Danny Blind and Jari Litmanen were staples of my teams in this era.
Ballers
This brings back memories, but there was Championship manager, before this and was renamed to FM. So u can go even more back ! :D
🤣🤣 sure can - just need to find how to play it
Dos Box and download Championship Manager.
I actually prefer the less options.
97/98 championship manager. Good times. If this is primitive for you, then good luck with that game.
Freddy Adu was shite 😂
Good to see you back! Could we have more retro rebuilds please? Nostalgia overload. CM03/04 was my first one.
Leave it with me boss!
Now that is a blast from the past. I actually worked as a QA on this game!
Oh really? I assume you're not still an SI employee then?
Good to see you back, hope you’re well 😊 won’t mention the Freudian slip of calling Matthew Upson “Michael” 🙈😂
Not just once either
Yeaaaaah not a shock I got someone's name wrong 😂😂
The problem with Anthony Vanden Borre is that you never know if he's being subbed or sent off.
I dunno Geoff 🤣🤣
Miroslav klose on this game 👌 unreal
Kevin Toms Football manager was my first manager game, then came others such as Soccer Boss, but one game very under rated was a budget game called The Double.
I graduated to Championship manager on the Amiga, and stuck with Football manager when they split the engine and database in 2005.
This was great. 05 and 07 were the best fm's. I won the league with newcastle on 05
Surely the first game in the series is the original championship manager? I played it back on the Amiga and although fun, it didn‘t include real players. The sequel, championship manager ‘93, is amazing though and I still play it to this day! 😊
Football Manager was out as early as 1982 on systems such as the ZX Spectrum.
So the comments of this video have told me. Bit before my time as I was born in 91…
That was a different game with the same name
That was a different game by a different developer. The original game in this series was championship manager, which was released in 1992.
I used to play many different football management games as a kid, but they were usually smaller freeware or fan-made apps under like 40 MB (though I remember spending hours downloading them back then), and I would play them for weeks.
Then one day, I read an interview with Petr Čech in a Czech magazine where he talked about playing Championship Manager, which sounded super cool to me. So I looked it up and found out that the newest version was now called Football Manager 2005. Oh boy, I was so happy when I finally managed to download the whole game! (Pretty sure that game is the reason I learned how to use torrents properly, haha.)
I still remember how unbelievably complex and overwhelming it felt, especially after playing simpler ones where I could only set up basic formations and buy players from a very limited selection of teams and leagues. After that, I could never go back to simplified football games or managers-those missing layers and bare-bones mechanics just didn’t do it for me anymore. ♥︎
And are you still playing FM now?
@ Not as much, since I have to lead an adult life, haha. But I usually install a new FM, play it for like 2-3 weeks, get extremely frustrated with my performance and the amount of time I spend on it… and then uninstall it. :D
I've played the lot. From the original FM on my mate's ZX81 then with goal graphics on my Spectrum. though Domark's Championship Manager - to when they bought the Football Manager name off Kevin Toms "Addictive Software" in 2004,
Also played many others. Euro Manager, Tracksuit Manager and EA's games that had a lot more RPG elements for you and your players.
Euro Cup was Europa. Great video. Love the old FMs
The nostalgia is key here!
That's no big deal, I played the very first Championship Manager, which was the forerunner of Football Manager.
Enjoyed the video brought back some Nostalgic Memories of playing the game when growing up kind of tempted to play some FM05 now after watching this.
Such a good game!!
labinot harbuzi was a legend and sadly died in 2008. A. true football manager great
Didn’t find this player but love seeing all these types of names in the comments
Always bought harbuzi
Welcome back!! And the absolute nostalgia of this one!!
🙏🏻
Lovely memories of this version. Loved the font used. First played FM back in the ZX Spectrum days.
Crushing it dude!
Championship Manager 2001 is the GOAT of all the series. Free to download. Spent many weekends on it
Got a link?
Glad you're back! Absolutely rescued my fm seasons
Thank you 🙏🏻
So much nostalgia with this FM, which was my very first fm. Alexander Kerzhakov on my Feyenoord save would score against almost every single team we faced. Good times.
Back when life was simpler
Tracksuit Manager, Kenny Dalglish Soccer Manager, Football Director 2, etc. all in the Spectrum in early 90s were the first’s I remeber playing and the first FM I’ve played in PC I think it was Championship Manager 91/92
Freddy Guarin brings back memories, scored about 20 a season from 30+ yards in this game!
Long-range screamers and free kicks - he was so damn good in this save!
Really enjoyed this! Should defo do more retro versions Hood!
Thank you man - got some good things coming!
Anatoli Todorov was a goalscoring machine & wonderkid. Pretty sure was in this game or possibly a year later
Still amazed Antti Niemi never got a single cap for Scotland, could've helped us lots
Such a shame, but if he’s finished, what can you do 🤣🤣🤣
Please do FM 2008. That's my first foray with SI Games. I used to play Football World Manager (Ubisoft, 1998) and Total Club Manager 2003 (EA). But after playing FM08, I found my new love!
That was the game before the 3D match engine right?
@@HoodGamingUK Yes, FM08 is the last one before 3D engine.
sherman cardenas - columbian rw was always my go to signing after adu and borre... lol
Need to see what he looks like in my version of the game
Yankee here, I only got into socc--er, football when I was looking for a "football" (American) sim and just got curious by the hype of Championship Manager 3. Been playing every SI game since! And I do dip into the older ones for nostalgia once in awhile. I always download retro databases when they're available. Honestly, I wish it was a feature of Football Manager to step back in time, just like baseball's Out of the Park Baseball sim, you can start at a save at any year from like 1871 onwards....
And that’s a feature that’s built into the game and is fully functional?!
I played this during my second year of Uni and I would cringe to see how many hours I must have put in. Pure nostalgia.
Simpler times eh?
Yes brilliant to see how all is well and u ready for FM 25 content
Thank you 🙏🏻
Great episode - more nostalgia rebuilds please. You should look to do a proper ten year challenge when Bournemouth were in the 4th tier or win the Champions League with Man City pre-takeover.
I believe the EURO Vase is the Intertoto cup.
Both of those challenges you've named there would be great ones to do!
My first was championship manage 98/99 unbelievable how long ago that was.
Nostalgia for days 😢the amount of hours and sleepless nights spent playing this 😅
A really old retro rebuild would be fm2001😱
Need to figure out how to play some of these older games - was lucky enough to find the disk for this one in a charity shop!
@ I can imagine 😂after playing the newer versions these old ones will probably be extremely difficult to adjust to
I think he means getting older games to play on modern computers .
Ive tried numerous times and just give up
Mine were FIFA Manager 11 and FM12. I love that genre ever since!
But before I bumped into Java mobile game Championship Manager 2008. That's what made me fall in love with such games. I didn't have PC that time and was just 10 yrs old
Yes! I played several on my Playstation when I was younger, not turned to the darkside of PC gaming!
I’m new here and just watched this as my first video to this channel. I’ve absolutely loved watching this as like yourself it brought back so many happy memories of playing this game. This was my first ever FM but CM98 was my first ever as a young kid in this world. A suggestion for the next FM05 video as I’m a Sheffield United fan could you win the Treble within 5-10 years?
I’d say that’s possible for sure. But not 100% on how many videos I will do on this specific game
@ okay no problem
My first one was CM 01/02. I was like “if you were a FM 2005 player you should know Freddy Adu”. And you damn well knew!
He’s the one name you have to know 🤣🤣
AVB, the greatest cheat code right back to ever step foot on a pitch. It was an honor to manage him.
Totally agree. He was superb for me
I’ve just found your channel! Great vid :) My first FM was 2006 and it is still my favourite
Do you still play it now?
@ not regularly but there is always a period after the new game has been out for a while where I get bored and I will go back to fm2006 and start a new save with my team Hednesford Town FC (it’s the first game where I took them from non league to winning the prem). For the last few years I have had much less time to play games and the older fm games are so much quicker and more streamlined so I do prefer them in a lot of ways.
Vanden Borre is my favourite ever wonder kid. Costs next to nothing and is pretty much a teenage James Milner in that he could play everywhere!
By the end of the save he looked exceptional
Didn't expect to see Lee Gunner 🤣🤣
👀
Made my day seeing new Hood content up!!
Too kind mate 🧡
Wow Remco van der Schaaf, we were promised he had talent when he came to Burnley, only played 1 match in 3 years
Feels harsh - his attributes looked decent in FM05!
I’ve to see you back! I loved that version of the game!!! If you want to go retro you could try Premier Manager 2, that was the first football management game I ever played. It really was great fun for teenage me! Starting in the conference and going all the way to the top!
Do you know how to give that a go?

Great vid! Nostalgia overload. What a series FM05 was. Podolski was insane. How did Messi progress in the end over the last few years of the save?
Sadly not as good as you'd think to be honest!
It was my first (so no CM before). Still got me hooked
Same as me!
I have championship manger 2 right up to football manger 2015 on physics discs.
Cm 2 (96/97), 97/98, cm3, 99/00 all big box. Small box disc cm 00/01 to cm4 which must be 04/05 then fm05 to fm15.
Championship Manager 95/96 because I am that old 😁. And welcome back 😁.
Perhaps I find that and give it a play
If you can find it, then you should try it 😁 then play a 4-4-2 on attacking and a direct play.
The biggest issue here is that 442 regular and diamond were a must if you want to dominate 😄I remember winning the Champions League with every team in just 3 seasons, you buy Naldo and Bierofka at the start for total less than 1million and Dede from Dortmund on free in January and that is it
I tried to do something different (for back then at least) but the 442 was rife
I started with Championship Manager. I have a copy of that knocking around somewhere and still have my Football Manager 2008 CD Rom
Really want to play some of these older ones!
That was just the year were the team sold the game championship manager and made a new one with the name football manager. Football manager is a continuation of championship manager, after the team moved championship manager change a lot and FM became the true successor of the previous games.
Correct
This is the first version after Championship Manager was renamed to Football Manager, not the first version of the actual franchise.
First FM was FM 11. Spent hours and hours on that game. I played FM 19 the most. Did 11 seasons at Southampton. Turned them into European giants.
Love that mate - who was your favourite player from that side you built?
Football manager was born from championship manager. Was hooked on it all through the 90’s. What a game
Need to try and get my hands on that and give it a try!
@ you should it’s definitely worth it
Blimey this is making me nostalgic. Thanks xx
🧡
Bierofka, absolute cheat code in that game
I'm currently doing a save with FM05. There's certainly more freedom to make your team good demonstrated by the players you bought in whereas on some of the later additions I got really frustrated at being rejected by players despite offering high wages. The game interface isn't the best to look at and is the only significant perk of the more recent additions.
I still think lots of the “under the hood” functions make a huge difference now. But 05 is one hell of a game
Man this was super nostalgic. Great vid bro. May I ask how you were able to play this game? Did you have a disc or did you download it?
I have the disc but needs a little bit of fiddling but it’s definitely possible!!
First ever played CM 99/00, but first owned: CM 2001/2002.
Smashing it - need to try and find some of the CM games!
Nice! It was just called Championship manager before that, CM 00/01 was my first
It was indeed, that’s just before my time but a series I’d like to take a look at
Wow, this brings back memories. Went to buy championship manager and got this.
Do you think that was a good decision?
Your back ! and so is my membership, it's great to see you back on youtube mate
Thank you as always my friend! Are you in my tournament on Tuesday?
@HoodGamingUK not yet and what tournament? 😎
Mate i can't join your tournament due to work and sports. Thank you for the invitation. I'll try to join a future tournament. I have a 343 that i want to test outside my Romanian save i doing right now. It's Romanian player transfer only
Yesss my bro welcome back hope your in a better place and state of mind!
So so much mate 🧡
Nice One! depending what happens or doesn't happen over next few weeks I might re-install one of the older versions myself and do similar as pretty fed up now with FM24. I do like the 2D and could survive with just that but when 3Ds there kinda feel compelled to use it.
Tend to agree with you here regarding 2D vs 3D… Which would be your go to game to re-install?
@@HoodGamingUK Im thinking 2005 as well - recall Javier Saviola being a beast or the 2008 version always sticks in my mind
Euro Vase was the Intertoto Cup, basically just the UEFA Cup qualifying tournament.
And now I know!! Thank you
Champions league players on championship wages is a refreshing change of pace
Shows how much modern football has changed
Love it, my first fm was 2008, do you remember any that when you got stadium built could see it under construction when playing games at home?
Yeah when you didn't move stadiums when work was happening...
I remember the good old days. On FM 2006 I discovered a young 17 year old Dusan Tadic from a second division Serbian team 😅
Serbia is amazing for players like that at a bargain price!
So many hours went into this. I had a bug that the game crashed after 4 years. But it was kind of perfect. :) Ireland had a great team as well. I'd manager both club and county.
Crashed after 4 seasons? That would be a nightmare for me!! Unfinished business
A time when Lewa was still in Legia and a potential wonderkid. Apart from the Championship/Football Manager brands, I also loved FA Premier League Football Manager 2001 and FIFA Manager which later spawned Total Club Manager.
Specifically my cousin and I spent a lot of time playing FA PLF Manager 2001. Played a crazy Italian league where I had Roma and he had Juventus and we ended with the same everything stats at the end of the year but he got it because there was 1 goal difference in our in between matches. We also took a single team and took it to glory. I like FM but FA and Total Club were really nice to play as simpler versions. Easier to progress fast.
For those who remember FA Premier League Manager 2001....Marco Bergani, Dimitar Balabonov, Yegor Titov, Pandilowski.
I definitely need to try and get my hands on some of these games that you mentioned!
Welcome back, Mate. Nice to have you around 👍
Thank you - that means a lot!
In process of playing my first ever FM game - FIFA Manager 24 - Impressive for a fan made mod but not sure I’ll ever see a match played. So much info to wade through and learn. I should have started with this one :)
You got a link for me to check it out with?
Actually no - have just learned the mod is banned. Apologies for posting.
Daniel bierofka. What a player he was on this game
Freddy guarin was class aswell
Need to have a look at Bierofka - Feddy was a main-stay in my side!
So good dude!! Whatta difference in graphics compared to the newest game!
Totally agreed man - gotta love the green look though
The first FM game I played was Kevin Toms classic 1982 game .....then I went through all the games (including the bad FM 3) and then Championship Manager series :)
People keep mentioning the 1982 game - need to try and find it!!
I played that game. I think in about 1985/86? Many a rainy day saved by the Commodore 64!
The first one I played was from before legal wranglings forced the name change: Sports Interactive's Championship Manager 93/94. I reckon you'd get a kick out of it if you went back to play one that old; It runs handily in Dosbox on modern hardware.
If you do, you'll want to buy a centre back from Tranmere Rovers called Ged Brannan. Try playing him out of position and see what happens...
Time to see about installing that!!
welcome back mate, cant wait to watch this one!
Thanks buddy!
My first was Fm 14. I loved the simplicity back then
That’s one of the ones I still have on steam! Might have to give it a try
Good to see you back mate. Hopefully back streaming soon.
Potentially. Need to prioritise time better - will be doing more things on Patreon
That was the first one I played as well, coming from LMA Manager on Xbox. I was in for a very steep learning curve...
So true! I’m trying to find a way to play LMA for a video!
@@HoodGamingUK that would be cool, I would definitely watch an LMA Manager video or series...
Glad youre back bro!
Thank you Robert 🧡
Dwight Pezzarossi was a free player! And an absolute beast of a striker
One I missed but one I want to go and check out!
