Rhona Kaninau was shown as trojanette Captain- also shows Cindy Bell (Lieutenant), Paulette Gigear(Lieutenant)- I found myself and Debbie Berry also. Thank you for posting this. I was Captain in my senior year- Cheryl Hardin. So glad you've got the flags on here- nowadays they only have tall flags (penants).
I played concert master 1976 and 1977. When I enrolled at CSU Northridge I told my classmates about CPHS Band. Nobody believed that my cassette recordings weren't a University ensemble. Luzak said it was highly unlikely that a music program such as CPHS could ever be duplicated. I am forever grateful to him for training me for 1st chair clarinet.
@thelegit3172 Del Bangle, Mike Luzak, and Gary Withem were all meticulous with preparation. We tested in front of the band for every show. All from memory. Luzak was modern 12 tone row. Bangle arrived at a 4 year high school. That's a big advantage marching a larger band. Bangle took the marching program to a higher plain. Including the auxiliary corps. Gary Withem was concert oriented. Both Luzak and Withem taught marching because it was a district requirement. Marching Band was costly. All the uniforms were well made, and the drum major uniform from Scotland. They would have rather spent the money on up grading the percussion section. Luzak's baby was the percussion section. We weren't allowed to refer to them as drummer's. Seriously.
OMG, this brings back a lot of memories...the Maytime band review, Halftime, the clinics, Disneyland, San Francisco...gotta pull them out of the cellar! I don't think I have much left except for the scores and sheet music.
@pokemahoney My dad passed away last year, we started converting all his old super 8 films to digital. This is one of the films we found. The camera did not have sound, so we added the marches post. I only marched one year in the band, playing trombone, Maytime 1970 till Maytime 1971. Anthony
I’ve been trying to find the actual 8mm film to re-transfer at a higher definition. My father transferred this my shooting VHS camera onto the projected screen- not best. I only marched, played, with the band one year- my senior high school year. I continued playing through college at SWC then SDSU. I majored in engineering. I later played in community bands and San Diego’s Moonlight Serenade Orchestra. I still play to this day and continue taking classes at community colleges or extension courses- I believe the music has been part of the motivation- always having access to practice rooms and the possibility of sitting in.
That is so awesome! Thats such an incredible piece of California Band history! I'm so shocked nobody has jumped for it yet! If you happen to still have it, I think that the Castle Park HS band would love to have it! I've noticed that the band is currently taking big leaps in returning to their sucess on the street, and I'm sure they would cherish a valued peice of their history! So cool! Thanks for sharing this!
I would love to get a copy of that record. One can convert vinyl to digital. I was a trombone player from 1970-1972 in all of Michael Luzak's bands-Concert, Marching, Stage and Pep Band. Loved that guy! He was an awesome teacher.

Was the program better under Luzak or Bangle?

Pretty neat to see the evolution of the scrunch and kick down from the early years.
I graduated from Castle Park in 1989. I like watching old videos from my school.

@pokemahoney
That is correct, that was Jim as drum major.
@littleoaf - Fallbrook 40 years ago, you tell me. If it still goes on now, you can well imagine 40 years ago.
This is cool!
Great!
Anyone have the Scores from Long Beach All Western Band Review 1982 year?
