Nice demonstration video. Agree with your second option, take your urethane ball and roll it directly up 3/4 board and watch it slow hook to the pocket. Rinse and repeat.

What if it's dry in the middle and oil is on the outside and it is a short pattern.The oil is water based and evaporates
