I've carried a glock as a duty weapon for over 30 years and have bought several glock models in different sizes and calibers. That being said, I think i can speak with an honest amount of expertise. Glocks are combat weapons that for the most part are great right out of the box. It's been my experience to swap out the trigger, and the sights! Just those two upgrades, will serve you quite well. Everything else is just gravy. Great video sir. I found it very informative and enlightening.

For your duty weapon what ammo did you use?
Also Great comment by the way, I couldn’t agree more with you. The firearm right out of the box are hands down the most reliable and only gun I trust. If I had to pick any gun straight out of the box, never having tested it touched it or seen it to save my life in an emergency hands-down would be Glock. 100% trust with my life. Stack that on top of the fact, a lot of companies are copying their style shows how combat ready and reliable they are. I remember when I was a kid my friend Mom became a reserve officer. IT was the first time I saw a Glock I believe I was 12. on My 21 birthday I bought a sub comp. Gen3 g27 .40 cal. Such a tiny gun but so accurate it’s amazing how they stayed the course of subtle changes but better improvements.

You seem practical, pretty down to earth, and straightforward, but still put a lot of effort into the vid. You're not tying your worth or Identity to a gun, and you're also honest if it's just personal preference.

Tritium sights were designed for dusk and dawn when low light is an issue picking up your sights.
We were issued them directly from Glock when we transitioned to these weapons in 93,and they were invaluable for one handed reloads during wounded drills and also because they were so intuitive in those two small portions of the day when your sights are tough to pick up

I've used a few brands on guns since 1997 or so. My top picks are Ameriglo 3 dot, Trijicon. The HD orange night sights are bright, easy to use. I'm not a big supporter of fiber optic tubes.

I am a fellow G:45 owner myself. It's my EDC, I find the fit beats the 19 for my hands and with my body type I can carry the larger frame without issue. All I have done to her aside from a few hundred rounds, are basic trijicon night sights. I dig the cuts for the grip and guard, that is new info to me. I grew up with the M9 as a sidearm in the Army, really enjoying striker weapons now.

I too am a fellow g45 edcarrier. I wanted mine to be a black 19X clone….so I did the Glock oem maritime spring cups. All 3 17 rnd mags now have oem glock +2 extensions…and a black oem glock lanyard ring. I went with an ameriglo cap front sight (luminous green square with single dot tritium) and “protector” rear (2 tritium dot with anti glare serrations). I am an iron sight believer….but I do also have the Olight Baldr S 800 lumen wml with green dot laser. All of which sits in a “gun & flower” iwb kydex holster. Smooth & mean with federal LE HST JHP 147g poppers. 19+1 and another 19 in my carhartt carpenter pant mag pocket…lol sliding ruler pocket fits a couple mags perfectly!!!

I’ve been buying and working on my own glocks for years. Swapping parts, stippling, etc. one thing I learned is that the less you do the better. Malfunctions RARELY happen on a stock glock. But mod glocks it’s frequent. I’ve learned to appreciate the simplicity and reliability rather than go for gucci or over swapped parts.

Yes, you do NOT need $4000 in optics, flashy holes, comps, cerakote coatings or nickel, sound surpressors, barrels, slide plates. Good 3 dot steel night sights, a Glock Store slide lock, Tango Down mag release, LWA 🐺 extractor is fine.

I throw on a Talon grip & a connector . That's it for my Glocks . If I customize I go with Polymer 80 which has awesome texture right out the box & I really enjoy building them almost as much as shooting them. Great content. Thanks for sharing. The Vickers are the only aftermarket one I don't hit with my thumb.

I am very glad that you told us who did all of your mods to your frame. We have to remember that on a Glock the frame [is] the serialized firearm. It needs to go to a gunsmith who knows how to do undercuts and stippling. I wouldn’t recommend that anyone use a Dremel tool on their Glocks, unless they know exactly what they are doing.
I know you did this video three years ago, but a trigger mod I would recommend for a competition gun is the Timney Alpha Competition trigger. I have two of them and both break at average 2.11 lbs. I also have two Apex triggers that I really love.
You may have gotten all the Vickers controls by now, but I don’t see them offered anymore. I am with you on controls. The mag release is too flat for me to use without rolling the gun in my hand and the slide release is a little to small for me to engage or disengage with my shooting hand.
Thank you for the recommendation of the ZEV mag well and the T.Rex Arms mag extensions. I am building a race gun and both are options I really like. Concerning barrels and recoil spring/guide rods. I 100% concur with you about barrels. I buy barrels for the threads so that I can mount a silencer. I do a lot of shooting, and unlike long distance shooting, a pistol barrel has unmeasurable effect on accuracy. As for recoil springs/guide rods, I change them just because I don’t like the factory set. I have no good reason to change them.
This is the first of your videos that I have ever seen and it was great. Excellent production quality, entertaining and extremely informative. Again, thank you for your work and review.

I started running tactical courses with a box stock G17 MOS. Added some DIY stippling on the index points, then an RMR and x300u. Later, my main instructor added front cocking serrations to my slide and it's done. I'm over 10000 rounds now with ZERO issues. I don't find the stock trigger to be a hindrance, and don't want to risk reliability with trigger mods. I'm currently setting up my G19 the same way.

    • @AlaskaChromeProductions
      @AlaskaChromeProductions Рік тому

I like that you said that keep seeing all these aftermarket triggers and bought myself it would be better to learn with stock. It’s built that way for a reason especially for self-defense. Glock purposely put that long pull with a 6 pound break on their guns for a reason it’s from what I’ve been told for self-defense situations you have enough time to either firel or stop the break before a threat decides to retreat. Also, learning with the stock trigger makes you a better shooter. I finally bit the bullet and switched to a 2023 timney And had it installed by my boys at wild West guns in Alaska who did a little extra work on it. Apparently people who self install their timney don’t understand that if the trigger bar isn’t connecting with the connector properly it will go brrrrrrrrt for those who don’t know how to do it super dangerous. I’m very intimate with working on triggers still had it installed by a professional gunsmith just so I can use it as my EDC with confidence. had them test fire and test it for drop safe. I only bought that trigger because it was $100 they came down they used to be like 300.

  • @RBslowman
    @RBslowman 3 роки тому +3

I installed a 22lb recoil spring in my G22. Reloading 40 with Hodgdon Longshot gives you incredible velocity with safe pressure but the slide velocity is very high and it beats up the gun. Glock used the same spring for the 9 and the 40 which is fine for commercial ammo but if you want more performance out of the 40 S&W then a stronger recoil spring is a must. To your point in the video though, for the average person shooting factory ammo, don't bother with a recoil spring.

Only owning Glock Gen 3's the following are my essential and trouble free modifications:
Ghost Inc. Bullet Slide Slide Release = faster than a slingshot
Vickers Tango Down Gen 3 Extended Mag Release = better mag release control
Overwatch Precision Drop in Kit. Better trigger. Basically you send in your OEM Glock trigger and they install one of their flat faced trigger shoes on your OEM Trigger Bar, and they also replace your OEM connector with a Glock OEM Minus connector that has been NP3'ed.
Other than better sights, from a variety of makers, nothing else need be done to a Glock Gen 3vto improve shootability

Man, what a great video. Thank you so much for sharing! Actually learned some new things and I’ve been a Glock guy over 22 years. Damn that it’s hard I just turned 42 the other day. Everything you recommended was right up my alley. Especially the barrel replacement I was on the fence and now I’m leaving my stock barrel in my G30. Although I was told the other day and I don’t know if anyone has heard or confirmed this, and if you could answer, I would appreciate it. Was told The only barrel replacement that’s an absolute must is the x10 Glock Gen 4 only. Apparently the GEN 4 10 mm. Stock barrels, and all stock barrels for glocks or not at all meant for hard cast lead hot loads. Apparently they barrel will jam up with lead and explode. Now this is only for people like me, and Alaska or other countries with big animals. They need to protect themselves against and choose to carry a 10 mm Glock. I was informed that if I purchase the gen4 10 mm. For bear protection it would need to be changed however, the gen5 barrels were OK to shoot hard cast check hot loads through. I quit carrying my 629 .44 magnum. Because well at the end of the day of Flyfishing and hiking miles and miles your back will hate you also I love glocks. Great video. FYI, I upgraded my 1911 barrel years ago from the stock Colt to a Briley fitted barrel and noticed dramatic improvement, shrinking my groups by nearly 2.5”. Then I upgraded my Gen 2 G19 barrel from OEM to fitted Bar-Sto barrel, and DID get an improvement, but this time barely an inch or so, which really wasn’t worth the cost. Going forward I’ve bought KKM barrels so I can shoot lead reloads, but haven’t noticed groups shrinking all that much. I do always buy Wolff guide rods and springs for all my Gen 3’s (stuck in CA which is why I can’t own that G45 and with a 10rd limit it makes no sense anyway) so I can quickly change spring weights or swap in new springs. I have all the frame mods, but will have to check out the Vickers slide stop / mag release controls. I didn’t get them because I was paranoid about accidentally dropping the mag.
Thanks for the excellent well-produced overview.

I definitely like the looks of a stock Glock. I think the simplicity is sexy. Safety switches and de-cocking levers and toaster oven attachments look too tacticool to me. If anything I’m putting a red dot on and leaving everything else the same.

Good vid. I've found over my now 30 years of shooting as an adult, including 14 years in LE (6+ as an instructor), that too many people try to focus on the gun's abilities vs their own fundamentals. I can't tell you the number of times I've heard people blame their gun, or a brand of gun, and wave off their own faults. Too many people go overboard on "upgrades" when they're not to the point of making the most of those upgrades. If people can't pick up any pistol, and have the basic knowledge of how to use a pistol proficiently, then no gadget or "upgrade" is going to help. Case in point: leave the gadgets on the shelf until plenty of time has surpassed, sound fundamentals have been learned, and thousands of rounds have been fired with good accuracy results. Also... some advanced training would be good too. ;)

I slapped a $179 FDE Dagger SW4 Complete Upper with 4.5" threaded barrel, suppressor sights, RMR Cut, etc. for my G19X Lower.
The color is lighter & I should've bought the black upper but its not too bad.
Fits like a 1911 (zero play between the frame & slide) & I wouldn't trade it for a Staccato! I've owned Glocks since the 80's & this is my best by far!
    Put a $200 on sale & I had a coupon code HE or Elite 407c x2.
Most don't tell ya the difference between the HS & HE but mainly Warranty HE has 10yr & HS has 3yr warranty.
I polished everything, put a 15lb recoil spring, OW Precision TAC Trigger, Trigger Spring Kit, 3lb black yikes connector & omg!
    Drives nails at 30y easily.
Shoots everything I've fed it without an issue to date. My best shot was a coyote headshot on the ranch at 60y. I don't carry my Rifle out anymore. The G19X is just so fun to shoot the way its configured now. Good thing is, i can always slap the original upper back on.

Great production! I keep my G19 Gen3 bone stock except for a Surefire light. It's a defense gun, and I would hate for 12 people too dumb to get out of jury duty to decide my fate after being presented with how "unsafe" light triggers are by a competent prosecutor. For a range gun though?...sure, go nuts.

I used my first Gen 4 G17 as a Lego set for a few years... Mostly for fun.
    Zev trigger bar and springs
    - Played with different springs and got down to 2 lb trigger but introduced occasionally light primer strikes. Moved back to a heavier striker spring which pushed the pull to 3 lbs.
Titanium frame pins started showing stress cracks... Moved to stainless steel.
Stainless guide rod and different springs for various loads.
Titanium drop safety. Don't recommend... Shows excessive wear over steel.
Extended controls... Mag release, slide release, and takedown.
    Truglo tritium fiber sights
And, of course, a Punisher back plate 🤷‍♂️

I never considered the slide texture to make it easier to grab. Noted. Thanks! I'm looking at 3D printing a glock, and since I'm starting from nothing, I gotta research mods since I could just buy mods to begin with :D One of the main reasons I want to 3D print one, aside from the cool factor, is the fact I can just print it with the stippling

On my 43x I noticed considerable consecutive shot accuracy increase with a tungsten guide Rod. Might be just me, or perhaps it helps more on the shorter barrel models. For $80 it was a great improvement for 15 yard groups with consecutive point and shoot groups…(no stopping to re-aim before firing again)

@@RosewoodActual I have a heavy tungsten in my G17 and my G43X. Zero malfunctions. Personally, only positives. Keep in mind it is only noticeable with consecutive shots in cadence. It won’t help with single fire slowly paced shooting, but with sequential shots at pace you will have reduced muzzle rise that tightens those groups. Changed mine from 6”-8” groups at 15yds to 3” groups. Worth it for me.

Great video. Think I’m gonna scoop a Glock 45 as well. Need to set up a red dot handgun. FYI on the tritium sights you mention for NVGs. You can’t really shoot with tritium sights under NODs. They bloom out and look like orbs that are not usable. Red dot handguns are the way to go for work under NODs.

    Really well written.
I too started out wasting a lot of time and money. I had to learn to take my time first and foremost, then I had to really put a lot of shots into the glock platform before I realized what I wanted to change.
I have similar glock mods to your G45 except for the magwell and slide cuts. The secret to an affordable glock trigger that comes out perfect for me is to use an Apex shoe on the OEM setup and add a ghost minus connector with a 6lb striker/trigger spring, then you further polish the connectors edge of you really wanna make that wall smooth.
Removed the finger grooves on my gen 3 23 and rounded the profile a bit to the frontstrap because it was too square for my liking and shaped my own little magwell from the frame. It come out good because I did it by hand and TOOK my T I M E...

On the spring topic. The only pistol I had it make a real difference on (with factory ammo) was a Canik TP9SFX, when I changed guide rod and recoil spring I was able to track the dot through the entire recoil where I couldn't before. I had to make a spring change when using a compensator. I've had people tell me they've had to change springs when using custom ammo loads.

Great video and good ideas. I love your transparency and honest assessment of available mods.
One thing I wish you’d pointed out is that for home defense (which you alluded to you use one of your glocks for). When it comes to mods, you can get into big trouble with overmodded EDC setups. You could have a harder time arguing for self-defense if your pistol is all beefed up, with 2 lb trigs, aggressive looking slide, etc. You sure don’t want to lose a legal battle just because of how modded your gun is. NDs also become more probable with modded triggers. Try to keep your pistol normal-looking and like PC said, practice, practice, practice.
