I really just couldn't get into the art style of burnside after seeing the art from the first 5 volumes.
That's fair. A lot of the art through the first 5 volumes is absolutely gorgeous. It probably helped me that I originally read the Burnside comics first.
Same here. Everything looks stunning in the first few arcs. I can’t get through Burnside because the art... ugh...
i still think Cassandra Cane was the best batgirl we had in years next to Stephanie brown as batgirl then barbra gordon but that's just my opinion, i also miss her as oracle so much.
I just like Barbara in general, and so I like her as batgirl over the others. I'm honestly not a big fan of characters that are just computer support because they're often just used as convenient plot device, but I do like Oracle in terms of those characters.
Cass would definitely be my second favorite batgirl, and I've always liked Stephanie more as Spoiler and I like seeing her filling that role again in the Rebirth.
@@CaptainAway i can understand that and honestly i do understand where you are coming from with characters being used for computer support being a plot device that been done to death at this point however i maintained barbra gordon actually worked way better as oracle then regressing her back to batgirl and getting rid of cass and Stephane brown spoiler really pissed me off at least in my opinion.
Stephanie isnt a better Batgirl than Barbara. Not at all
@@CaptainAwayBelieve me, Barbara as Oracle is much more interesting and even a better fighter than as Batgirl. Gail Simone is the best thing that happened to her.

We never got a story that depicted Barbara's decision to become Batgirl again; it's just implied that when she recieved the chip implant, she suited up and went back to doing stakeouts on rooftops. I would suggest she became Batgirl again after being attacked by her brother in "The Black Mirror", the last major storyline she appeared in prior to the new 52 and in a wheelchair; it made her time as Oracle leading the Birds of Prey seem inconsequential in the face of a personal attack and thet would provide the impetus for her to get back in a costume after years of claiming to be content.
I found Gail Simone and Cameron Stewart's respective runs on "Batgirl" to be horrid mixed bags of hits & misses, but the Hope Larson has some nice stories. Mairghead Scott's run had potential to be the best Batgirl run ever, but was cut short after a year; Cecil Castellucci's run is very clumsy and unfamiliar with a lot of continuity, but I appreciate it's audacity in coming up with villains for Barbara to fight and perils to create suspense. This is followed by "Batgirls", which I believe exists as a test by DC to see if all these "fans" on social media are telling the truth in saying that they love Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown, while Barbara took a backseat. This test was a failure and the book has been cancelled. It was recently announced that Cassandra will appear as Batgirl in a revival of Birds of Prey in the fall, but it's not clear if Barbara will get her solo "Batgirl" book back again.
I loved Simones run, Burnside was very disappointing for me. I didn't like the art and how Batgirl was drawn to look like she was 10 years old. Its too much of a change from Simones amazing run and her amazing costume was replaced which sucked too.
Personally I thought Burnside Batgirl looked more like a teenager, which I thought fit the comic well cuz I feel like that part of the comic did a better job of appealing to teens. But I don't really get why they felt the change necessary and definitely if you were used to Simone's run it was a drastic change. And yeah, the first New 52 costume was way better.
Simones run was my first introduction to batgirl comics. since I really loved her from arkham knight series

@@justarandomdude.9285 I do occasionally make videos about indie comics, but pretty much no one watches those, so I mostly stick to the big two of DC and Marvel. I'm sure I'll occasionally cover some more indies from time to time. I'd love to cover some cartoons and other superhero media, but it's a little beyond what I am able to do right now. Maybe someday.

Babs had the craziest, most convoluted history prior to the New 52. At first, she's Gordon's niece. She comes to live with Jim and his wife, who shares the same name. Just cuz. And James Jr only exists in Year One and Black Mirror before the New 52.
So no younger brother for any of this stuff. She would often get called Jim's daughter, adopted daughter, niece, adopted niece, foster-niece etc. So when Rucka got on the book, and the origin was refined, this time...it's just...dafuq.
So now, Jim has had an AFFAIR with his BROTHER'S WIFE! Making Barbara his illegitimate daughter. After this, it's just father and daughter, no confusion. Though once James Jr arrives, his flashbacks do clarify they're cousins, so the mess continues.
So New 52. Babs is Jim's daughter. Barbara birthed Barbara. It's not completely uncommon that a daughter is named after thier mother. Jim Jr is still a psycho.
But the timeline had to be shifted. There's no way Year One now happened. Jr is too old. Dick was apparently Batman very briefly, so I'm unsure if Black Mirror still happens. But on topic, Jim now had distinctive red hair to match with his baby girl.
In the 60s TV show that she was created for, and in her first comic book appearance, "The Million Dollar Debut of Batgirl," she was Gordon's daughter (though I could be wrong about the show, I don't know that show very well). She wasn't made his niece/adopted daughter until after Crisis on Infinite Earths, which was a weird and pointless change since it seems like most writers just ignored the whole niece thing. I was glad the New 52 restored the original story because you're right, it just became too crazy and convoluted.
