Goan kingfish thali (kingfish uman, masala fried kingfish, rice and salad)

  • To make kingfish (curry)
    For masala:
    1/2 cup coconut
    1tsp turmeric
    1tsp coriander seeds
    1 tamarind ball
    6 peppercorns
    4 dry red chilis I use both round and kashmir
    1/2 cup water for grinding
    For uman(curry):
    1 onion chopped fine
    2 slit green chilis
    6 kokum
    salt to taste
    Start by grinding all the ingredients for masala. Next chop onion and green chili. Heat oil in pan and fry onion and chilis till golden brown. Next add masala fry for few minutes. Then add some water to grinder jar about 1/2 cup or until consistency you prefer. Add salt to taste. Once hot again add kingfish stir gently place lid and cook on low 10 to 15 min. Add kokum at the end and check salt turn off flame.
