i can relate to you with that "taking forever to unsub from hundreds of channels" thing because when i was a little kid, i used to subscribe to the creator of almost every video i watched 😭😭😭 it's taken me a few years(on and off of course) to unsubscribe from what i believe is around 500-600 random ass channels, i'm still working on it 😭

While I do agree with the points you made, I get why people do this sub2sub thing. Due to UA-cam’s incompetence I frequently see people say that it’s impossible to get an audience. Regardless if that’s actually true, a lot of these people probably believe it.
I go through and clean my sub list every once in a while (maybe once every 2 years) along with cleaning my watch later list which balloons quickly even though I try to go through it often.

You could try to do some videogames analysis like you did with slendytubbies, as i think your voice, your editing and your writing would absolutely be perfect for that kind of content. While I really like your videos on Gmod etc, I'm afraid they could get repetitive. Maybe longer videos about some obscure games or older ones (silent hill etc) could help you grow as a channel as you would attract a wider public without sacrificing the genuineness of your work. Of course your vids would probably take much longer and much more work would need to be put into them, but it would be a good opportunity for you I think. Take care bro, you have our support.

Man I was semi-active around that time... I don't think I gained much from it because I never went around asking for subs, and I only subbed to like, 2-5 who came to my videos in the past. I didn't really gain anything from it however. Most of my subs were from online friends, genuine friends, and family members at the time. And people I used to do military roleplays with in video games. So... that was like, a stagnation. Gladly I only subbed to like, under a dozen so that was easy to clean up. Now I'm starting to kick off because of my content and I'm earning subs, feels good, as I don't quite want fame for the sake of fame, merely... an extra source of minor income for the sake of funding tuition, taxes, and to donate to charities in my area. Was quite a wild ride though seeing that many sub to subs. And I actually never said I subbed to them, I thought they were "Bots" and automatically subbed... so... I guess that's why my sub count never grew lol. I thought they were bot accounts XD
