All top level speedrunners of the gamecube versions of pikmin 1 and 2 play on a wii. This is far more relevant in pikmin 2 though. There is a significant difference in speed for the game's loading screens between gamecubes and wiis, as well as between different types of wiis. Nearly every runner at the top of the leaderboard in pikmin 2 uses a "fast wii", which is made with newer parts than slower wiis and thus has faster but still acceptable loads. If you only own a gamecube and wish to run the gc version of pikmin 1 or 2, you can still do so, but you'll be suffering from slower loads than other runners.
