- Writer-director Lulu Wang presents an advance screening of her Sundance hit, a dramedy about a Chinese American woman (Awkwafina) who learns that her grandmother is dying and reluctantly goes along with her family’s plan to keep it a secret.
Just saw it, such a great film.
Great film! Its hard to hide emotions and it was devasting seeing Billie hiding those feelings.
I learn so much from LuLu. No more procrastination I will finish my half written script and get funding!

This film was not good. I don’t understand all the hypes. The writing was not great, the direction was clumsy, stagy and the acting is mediocre at best. I’ll never believe reviews again.
It was an amazing film. Maybe you didn't understand the premise since you aren't Chinese.

its funny you say the acting was bad even with all the seasoned actors in it. lol if you did not understand the film just say so and shush please!
i'd believe you if you gave concrete examples and constructive criticism of the film. it has been a year, but what parts of the writing were "not great"? was it not relatable, or did the premise feel too outlandish? you can keep your opinions but they don't mean much if you don't explain your reasoning behind it.
So excited that the film is truly AMAZING, AND she is an Asian woman director AND that it stars an entire Asian cast including Akwafina. How well did she tell this story and by the way, how sweet was Nainai! Love love love! We need more from Lulu Wang!

as a chinese-american im really happy this film was made. the family dynamics i've lived were on screen!!! billi and her mom holy shit my mom and i are like that. a lot of asian-americans experience tense parental relationships in this particular way, and i really appreciate that it was captured.
also i forgot to add: im glad crazy rich asians was made and a lot of ppl got to enjoy it, but the farewell is really what im here for.
