I just walked out of my theater. I loved it! Definitely enjoyed it a lot better than I thought I was. That ending with her flying and singing “defying gravity” was worth the whole ticket.
They are releasing a sing a long version in dec. the movie will go to video over the summer I bet, so it won't seem to long plus it will help part 2 to get as many eyeballs on part one as they can I guess.
cynthia really was meant to play elphaba in the movie. I could feel what she felt and was emotionally moved to a few teary moments and getting out of my seat a few times
I loved her voice! But her portrayal really missed almost all Elphie's sense of sarcastic humor. That took away from the character, plus I think they could have done her make-up so she didn't look like a 40 yr old in college. Age won't matter so much in part 2. But in part one, it was a pretty big leap.
Just went to the Movie! I dressed like Elphaba in all my green glory. I absolutely loved it and I just started listening to the book Wicked. It has been over a decade since I have listened to it and it helped me remember a lot of things that may or may not be covered in the movies. Wicked is so right for what we are going through now in the world. So powerful! When you listen or read the book it makes sense that the movie is in 2 parts.
It’s such a inspiring, touching movie. After watching it I felt alive, I felt hope . The cast is incredible, the music is a masterpiece. And I can tell the cast worked in this film is work by their hearts not just their talents
Is the wicked witch the true wizard of OZ ? Because they sing about a prophecy, a wizard will read from the book. But Alphaba is the only one who can read from the book.
The names Elphaba. It’s not be true to the source material by the book characters. Pfannee is a female character, not a male character. I don’t like gender swaps and background swap as well.
I've never seen the musical either, but my mom read the book years ago when it first came out. She had said it was incredible. I believe it's entirely from the wicked witch's POV
I absolutely loved this fim! I hadn't seen the play but I've always heard rave reviews about it. I have been singing with the Target commercial since it came out. Man, when I heard it at the end, Cynthia sent chills. The theater broke out with applause. I hadn't experienced that since Avengers End Game. I'm thinking that the cub will be the cowardly lion and the elixir is what turned her green. The views of the man her mother cheated with also makes me wonder if the wizard is her father 🤔
I feel like the movie was split for two reasons. 1. To Flesh out all the characters thoroughly. 2. The second half is extremely dark and will definitely be rated PG-13.
way to much story for one movie IMHO, plus they have more time to really flush the story out. In the play, if you didn't read the book before you saw it, there was really no way to fully understand it. Esp. the very beginning when They start the story with her birth. There are lots of really good little easter eggs. The GREEN elixer, and who was the guy her mom was cheating with? You never really saw him, remember that.
Thank you so much for giving me this glimpse into this phenomenal movie! I did not see the play either but bought the CD and played the music many times. I also read the book. But seeing this come to life is wonderful. You see I am homebound and old and will not be able to view this movie until they stream it or sell on Blu Ray. So now I can picture most of it in my mind along with the book. I am hoping it is not too long before they release this for we who cannot go to theaters. Maybe one day they will create a special membership channel for the homebound where we can pay to see first run movies at home. Thanks again and I loved this so much!
I saw the movie yesterday, and it not joking when I said that I had chills all over my body for every single song, they portrayed the character SO WELL and their voice were AMAZING! You should definitely see it! 💚🩷
Read the book! I read all of Gregory Maguire's books YEARS ago, and then when "Wicked" was on Broadway, i wanted to go see it soooo bad! I love this story! I can't wait to see this movie ❤
Spoiler for those unfamiliar for the play and haven't watched the movie. The person on this video claimed we don't know how she is born green. This is incorrect. The scene in the opening where we learn of the mum's 'guest' who visits after her mayor heads out gives her a bottle of potion that is green.
Spoiler alert: Truly prolific - demonizing and blaming those different from the rich protected classes The manipulation and gaslighting by the people in charge at school and in the government. Taking away the ability for “animals” to talk in cages. The wizard has no power. I hope we can remember that in real life. Question authority. The best part, is when Elphaba sees her younger self which stabilizes her before she soar. Which is so similar to the original “You had the power within you all along”. So good.
I have never read any plotlines about the book or the Broadway musical.I was living under a rock,I guess. Yet, I am able to enjoy this movie that I have watched it 3 times already in different scren or cinema formats!
I saw the Broadway play and actually thought the movie was better. Stage can't show special effects and graphics. The movie was easier to understand. A story of someone with a good heart, but is looked down upon because of the color of her skin. So many parallels in society today! It truly was a moving film.
The more we use our common sense and judge for ourselves who is manipulating who and whose creating war and hate we will then realize why we need to std up for peace and harmony
Elphaba's origin story in the book is heartbreaking and highly involved the wizard in the end. I don't know that they put that in the movie but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't since it's not child or family friendly in the least. He did a very bad thing, let's just say that
The water doesn’t kill Elphaba she is in a trap door and she gets rescued by Fiyero when the spell curse is lifted That’s my theory for the movie anyway
Well whatever happens in the musical is what'll happen. The movie is a direct adaptation of the musical. Honestly, they should've done this in the musical if they didn't bc in The Wizard of Oz, we only see what Dorothy sees and does. However, with Wicked, we see the whole other perspective of Elphaba and Glinda. So what if... :)
Yeah, me too. But imho, im okay with waiting this time because the director done a phenomenal job with giving the act one of the movie justice. I just hope he can give act two the same amount of justice... IF NOT MORE :)
"And things like that, and all of that." This phrase is used in the VO over and over. So distracting. Please edit and rehearse commentary before recording.
I don’t like the gender swaps and background swap as well. And it’s not basically on the book characters, and the original book by L. Frank Baum. Woke Hollywood literally burned those books. I preferred good movies.
Reaching. They did justice to theatre. I'm a theatre girly. And my gosh when the last scenes of defying gravity came thru... I was basically watching the musical itself ...just emphasized, brought to life, honored and most importantly brought in to the world of Oz,the emotions, the theme, how human it all was. literaly and bro. That was the best . Best movie Musical. The music done just right so it can worm with Camera acting without eliminating anything broadway, scenes shot beautifully to emphasize the wonder of Oz, something we all love- Oz and every theme, excitement and emotion, great angles. They brought Broadway to screens. What did u expect😂 a video tape of the 3hr long wicked staging just with a bigger budget to do what broadway shows cant do because of the nature of broadway???😂😂😂 clearly.💀💀💀they brought musical to the screens! It was so beautiful
I'll tell u this they understand the craft, artistic emotion and nature of musical cos the way they managed to translate it in on video was more than excellent.
girlie, what about it did you not like? I understand the musical. I've read the book, watched the musical and I still left the theatre feeling fullfiled by the movie adaptation. You're just trying to find a reason to hate on a well done, and well thoughtout movie because thats all this society ever does. Hates and nitpicks on useless things and calls it a day. Bffr
I just walked out of my theater. I loved it! Definitely enjoyed it a lot better than I thought I was. That ending with her flying and singing “defying gravity” was worth the whole ticket.
I sobbed. So embarrassing
@@AntsTheaterCorner2698 yes
It's a great movie, I just wish we didn't have to wait a whole year for the second half
Me too but I think it be worth waiting a year for the second half
I' ve been waiting since 2012 for the movie, when it was first announced.
True. Can we appeal to Universal to screen it during Summer 2025?
We should I'm dying to watch the second part@@reginaldp4023

agree. I read the book not long after it was published and absolutely LOVED it. I should
read it again
Having seen the musical, I had very high expectations and the movie hit them. I LOVED it!

the most obvious reason it was split is so they can make more money, duh
@@wearesatellites91 in some cases yes. In this case as it is the movie was almost 3 hrs and they only got to the half way point of the story.

Pretty good movie. Was Part 2 already filmed just waiting for release next year like LOR or do they need to film it
The shooting was done for both parts the same time
Hey guys! Just an f.y.i., if you have been wondering about a "sing-along" version of the movie, THERE WILL BE ONE THIS DECEMBER!!
Read the book! I read all of Gregory Maguire's books YEARS ago, and then when "Wicked" was on Broadway, i wanted to go see it soooo bad! I love this story! I can't wait to see this movie ❤
I absolutely enjoyed everything about it!

I’m hoping that the success of Wicked brings back movie musicals!
4:28 I think "retiring " is vastly underestimating the situation LOL
Yeah definitely an authoritarian forced retirement 😂
It was a wonderful beginning.

The movie is a direct adaptation of the musical, so however the musical is, is how the movie will be. For the most part.

And even after part 2. There's 4 sequel books to the series!

Who in our current society has our country made to be the evil vigliano but is actually thr one person trying to fight for good? Hmmmmmm

No. This is based on a book written in 1995 and a musical written around 2002. It is loyal to those sources and their messages.
Big fan of the Musical. I left feel not fulfilled. Only those who dont understand the musical would feel fullfilled
