So good to know your enjoying the vids that we share - thank you for your comments - means a lot 🙏 Three sisters is such an AWESOME method ... we have a few other vids about it on our channel too if you'd like to see more 💚✌️🌿
Hey Nneka, thanks, yep there were times this year I thought all that would grow outside was our beetroot… but we our thankful to still be pulling in some really great harvests 🙏 how’s your garden going? ✌️🌿
Mixed year for me but overall very pleased with what was achieved. Had a good year with tomatoes - potatoes, not so much. I’ll try some new varieties, including cara and pink fir next year. Interestingly most of my leafy greens didn’t bolt in the heat of the summer, not sure why - possibly because they were a little shaded, so still enjoying the spring planting. Onions didn’t do so well because I planted a bit late but garlic was fab. Waiting on my Murasaki. The leaves are still very lush so giving it another couple of weeks whilst keeping an eye on the weather for frost. Not sure what to expect but hoping to have an okay harvest. Planning to get some T65 for next year to see how well they do in my micro climate and how they compare to Murasaki. Chillis didn’t do too well this year, compared to last. Courgette on the other hand, grew faster than I could eat. I thought my Oca wouldn’t make it past the summer but the colder weather has done something to it. They look their best now, so hoping for an okay harvest, but at this point I’ll be happy with whatever I harvest. Sadly my Yacon didn’t overwinter from last year so didn’t plant any this year. Hoping to get some for next season. Planted a number of perennial herbs and flowers. Will focus on annuals next year. I didn’t do as much variety of veggies as last year but I managed to add a number of patio trees and more blueberry/strawberry/raspberry varieties, so fingers crossed for the coming years. Got a load of woodchips delivered to help suppress weeds and keep the moisture in so I don’t have to water much next year. I’m sure I’ve forgotten a couple of things as I’m already looking forward to the new season 😀. With a stronger focus on planning, thel garden will look very different next year. Please keep the videos coming, it motivates people like me to keep going while we dream of a permaculture-stylelife some time in the future 😀
Nneka, thank you so much for this message about your garden, we really enjoyed reading it and hearing your experiences this season. It’s funny you say about the sweet potatoes and the Oka … it’s exactly the same for us here. We were gonna harvest our out door SP yesterday, but just couldn’t bring ourselves to with the lush green growth they still have going on in this mild weather we have right now, especially, if like other stuff they started growing late due to the drought, want to give them maximum growing time! And I’ve observed EXACTLY the same with our Oka too! Loving hearing how your watching and observing and expanding your garden and feel so happy that our videos help inspire you . Thank you for being here with us too, it really means a lot to us 💚✌️🌿
Hi Dave, good on you, they are a really cool squash, I’m looking forward to cooking with them more, we used one the other day and whilst the wall of flesh isn’t so thick as other squash their flesh is really dense and they are beautiful too. Nice to hear from you and glad you enjoyed watching our harvest, Happy growing ✌️🌿
What an amazing harvest! I tried the three sisters for the first time this year but substituted sunflowers for sweet corn because of the mice/rat problems at the allotment. It worked quite well we got a load of beans but not so many squash and the birds have devoured the sunflower seeds. As you know each year is very different and has it's own problems so I'll try again next year.
Hi Will, indeed - no 2 years are ever the same! This was actually last years harvest - we did one of our beds with sunflowers this year too and had good bean growth up them - we had good squash too, we did grow a smaller variety in the sunflower bed, which may of helped. Start of this vlog shows the be earlier in the year ua-cam.com/video/hv_v2-tyYFM/v-deo.html And this Vlog shows our full squash/pumpkin harvest fro, all beds this year ua-cam.com/video/S4KBbpntgwg/v-deo.html Great to hear how you're mixing things up - love it 💚 thanks for watching & mesaaging ✌️🌿
I've seen jumbo pink banana seeds, but never tried them, maybe I'll have to give it a try! Our weather is very similar to parts of the UK. I grow delicatas almost every year, but I've never tried using them for pie!
Hi Sabrina, yep defo recommend the jumbo pinks for sure if your climate similar, we’ve found them much more consistent than butternuts. What’s your fav way to use the delicata? We roasted on while the other day and stuffed in, was nice, but it think spaghetti squash are better for that, the flesh of the delicata was so dense though, gez it was filling 😲😁 thanks for watching and commenting, also appreciated✌️🌿
@@freedomforestlife I honestly love them roasted and stuffed with sausage. I've also made delicata fries (or chips) in the oven or air fryer and used it in curry or stew.
Lovely harvest! I really enjoy seeing how other folks use their garden space three sisters makes sense to me
