Sorry folks..Unless you’re John Allen,William Cobb or Harry Traver..That’s the trinity of coaster designer of wooden Coaster designers….And ….The best wooden coaster in existence today is the Voyage Roller Coaster…Interview the Gravity Group..That’s real “Street Cred”…
This man is genius. If you haven't ridden this since it was Mean Streak, you don't know what the hell you are missing! This is a NON STOP thrill ride. So fun!
When asked about Cedar Point's contribution for the second half of the coaster's design (within the structure), Alan's response was just amazing. "It's really just the ride. The ride was there. It wanted to be there. It lead itself to be there. So, all we had to do was follow it." Being a former skater, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if Alan is/was a die-hard skier, surfer, skater and/or snowboarder. That's Cali mantra right there.
slimydog2003 thanks for the comment. Allan really is into “extreme” sports and has said early on he was inspired by snowboarding maneuvers. I know he was laid up in a hospital couple years ago due to an injury from snowmobiling I think.
I get why you'd say it's a Cali sounding statement but please note that what he said is also literally true. The new track never deviates more than 10 feet left or right from the original. (Lots of vertical deviation, but always using at least some of the original supports.)
I actually enjoyed Mean Streak for what it was, warts and all, but Steel Vengeance blew away all my expectations and (literally) left me breathless! I can't wait to ride it again.
I think those of us who grew up riding Mean Streak many times (mainly for its short lines) have a special appreciation for Steel Vengeance. It's a bit like watching your childhood friend make it big in Hollywood.
@@greg_216Yes and no, the short lines for such a monster of a woodie were amazing, now that's ruined forever. SteVe is better, but not "make me throw my shit in a locker and go through a fucking metal detector after 3 hours" better. In short, i'd take Mean Streak back in a heartbeat just to get rid of the bullshit.
Gawd I love Alan Schilke. Hope someday I get to meet him, I don't want to talk his ear off, just thank him so much for all he's done for the coaster industry. I love how he seems so dang happy to talk about his rides.
He's so humble about creating what enthusiasts will consider one of the greatest artworks in history, but his comment at the end really got me. Polyurethane wheels? How?
Why is it I can just Imagine Alan sitting down at a pc opening up no limits lighting up a phat blunt and kicki g back going. Yep time to have fun and make a rollercoaster
Dude you are BRILLIANT.....could you please please please please please please please please please come to six flags over texas and redo or add a new BAD azz number 1 in the world.. We cannot touch cedar point coasters.....for this reason that we lag behind in coaster technology!...six flags over texas has potential but it sucks big ones.....please help....if you do I will stop ✋ campaigning....Thanks...Mike Tisone live in Dallas Oak Cliff.
theripoffchicago Now we’re getting Iron Gwazi! It will definitely hold torch to Vengeance! Can’t wait to ride it. I didn’t get to ride Steel Vengeance unfortunately, I went opening week and my stay at the park was 2 days. We had fast passes for every ride but SV wasn’t using fast pass at the time and the regular queue was averaging 8-10 hour wait times both days we were there, we were very disappointed but Im going back for it!!!
His perspective is missed. RMC needed him to reimagine rides. They shit the bed on Gwazi as far as it being a complete package like SV is. I’ve recreate ridden both and while Gwazi is balls to the wall, it’s not completel or well thought out like what Alan can do. Aire Force is looking the same way. We will see what they do with wildcat
Some of it is also the parks themselves and their budget. Busch Gardens/Sea World was dealing with bankruptcy and potentially being sold. That’s why Gwazi stood STBNO for as long as it did. It was budget cuts that trimmed so much potential off the ride. I was a manager at CP for the 2018 season. The board of directors and CP management literally told RMC “do everything you think you can do and do it to this ride”.
Here’s the problem…Roller Coasters have changed so dramatically..The fear factor has been reduced..No laminated wood tracks-Which roar when the cars traverse them..Built on site/No PTC trains that give you max airtime and movement ..And the sense of imagined danger ..Totally gone..A wooden coaster should give you the feeling of a being in a earthquake while going at a high rate of speed…One of the last few examples remaining today is the Boardwalk Bullet in Kemah Tx(Near Houston Texas)..This little coaster..Built on 1 acre of land -is absolutely the most intense wooden coaster currently operating..It’s a 100% blast from the past…It’s not even 100ft high but is scarier than Steel Vengeance..It’s for coaster purists ..And it’s almost impossible to hold your hands up on the 1st drop -which is like a Mike Tyson knock out punch for roller coasters!..It’s 3000ft of pure fury..And this the way a wooden roller coaster should be..Not a hybrid..Steel Tracks on a wooden frame..But this new generation just can’t handle a rough and frightening ride.😂😂😂😂😂…If the Texas Cyclone(1976-1984 version (Before modifying because of frivolous lawsuits)existed today..You would have every Fan Boy coaster kid crying online about how dangerous it is..And it was only 92ft high but the consensus #1 coaster on the planet…To get a idea…It destroyed the famous Beast Roller Coaster which was built during this time period also…Maybe I’m just a old cranky man but I know more about roller coasters than most people today…And the Bible of Roller Coasters was written by Dr.Robert Cartmell years ago.(RIP)….Times have changed but bring back the Texas Cyclone (Built by William Cobb)and correct the Universe of Roller Coasters!!!
@@fuzzy2266 If a wooden coaster is what you want, Cedar Point still has its original, century old Blue Streak. It would be impossible to build a completely wooden structure to do whats today's hybrid coasters are capable of.
How is it that people still won't stop endlessly dissing arrow dynamics creations that are being torn down out of pure cheapness and laziness (arrow documentary=shows literal facts of S&S Sansei being fine with making new parts, why loch ness monster at BGW is so well taken care of, as are others noticeably). They say they are "rough" or "not that exciting" even the huge ones. Yet they are totally ok with RMC and how the seats have no padding, no back support, and the lap bar feels like it's breaking your legs off on every airtime/ejector airtime hill? This is why I like "Goliath" since it only has one hill and wish I could ride Zadra. Really hoping "Jersey Devil" is not like that and yes I know it's single rail different cars/trains then the iron horse and/or topper track design.
This is the equivalent of interviewing da Vinci about the Mona Lisa.
More like interviewing Van Gogh about Starry Night

My favorite ride anywhere!!
Although people ride this for the thrills, this coaster is a work of art. He is truly an artist.
DITTO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I certainly thought it was a work of art when I first approached it.
Yeah, it's great to take pictures of. Or just stare at.
he's an absolute legend
An engineering feat! The best ride on the planet in my opinion, its poetry
It’s crazy how he’s basically able to design one of only cures of my depression.
"One big dish of boredom" is the perfect way to describe Mean Streak. :) Great video, Marlon!
Screw mean streak
And pain
Mean Streak might be the most disappointing coaster in history.
Fuck every single on of you, Mean Streak was sick as fuck.
This man is genius. If you haven't ridden this since it was Mean Streak, you don't know what the hell you are missing! This is a NON STOP thrill ride. So fun!
Im more scared of the lines then the ride itself
This is the god among mere men. This man is astonishingly amazing at designing roller coasters.
Alan Schilke and Werner Stengel are the absolute godfathers of roller coasters.
And they used Cedar Point as their Canvass.
and john wardley
Wonder if Alan snuck over to have a go on "Maverick" while he was there ... I love these two masterpieces are side by side.
I love how animated and candid this guy is, talking about Steel Vengeance. Clearly, a man who loves his job.

He lives in the mountains of Idaho so I have to imagine hes into extreme sports

I was shocked after riding this I’ve never experienced such joy ridden a coaster I was laughing my ass off it felt like a mechanical bull.

Mr Schilke literally changed the amusement industry forever
Listening to this man talk is like listening to a true artist! ❤
ABSOLUTE GENIUS! THANK YOU for sharing your AMAZING gift with the amazement park!!
I love this interview! I especially love how you put in clips of the different POV's to really get a feel of what he's talking about. Great job!
I seriously could listen to this guy talk for hours. I love Alan Shilke!
What would cause a person to dislike this video? It's well edited with good audio and it's very interesting
Thanks for the props!
God bless Alan Schilke for creating a MASTERPIECE!!!!!!! Best coaster I have ever ridden!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So worth waiting 3 hours to ride!!!
so humble. this is the god of coasters and he acts like just another guy. love it!!!
This guy is like Geddy Lee from Rush, both in terms of looks, and being a good artist!
Amazing, Amazing looking ride. I MUST ride this Hybrid before I die.
I’m really enamored by the last set of bunnies. How the dips curve and turn ever so so that each crest is perfectly straight.
Literally a genius. It’s art. I want to ride his coasters
I love the joy in this dudes' face.
Most fun coaster I've ever ridden. Awesome
this and the smiler at Alton Towers have to be the best roller coasters i have ever ridden
This is what Roller Coaster Perfection looks like.
Awesome interview. Alan is a great guy.
A relentless masterpiece!! 🙌🏻
It’s weird that he called the third zero g roll a corkscrew.
that is a man who loves what he is doing
He's so humble about creating what enthusiasts will consider one of the greatest artworks in history, but his comment at the end really got me. Polyurethane wheels? How?
THANK YOU SCHILKE!!!!

Creative engineers are awesome
I want to be a rollar coaster designer, Alan is the guy I strive to be
Roller coasters are art.
He never mentioned why the lift is so loud lol
Does anyone know what they use to design these things?
This guy reminds me of my RF engineer at work...pure genius
Fantastic look into the creators mind!
What a nice guy. Very cool.
This is a great video.
I’ve never seen Alan Schilke not smiling
this dude knows what's up great post

Evil Genius
He's cool
The poor guy at 1:47 is truly hating life...
04:52 ... thiccc alert.
It should've been made where everyone could ride it not just smaller people.
Looks like this is a steel coaster.. with a wooden facade.
He looks like a scarecrow 😂
Retires from Rush and then moves on to coasters?!
