  • Nigeria is Africa's top oil producer, yet it's in the middle of a fuel crisis. The missing link: oil refineries. To address this massive disconnect, billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote is building an oil refinery right outside Lagos.

    If you think that is disturbing, we here in Australia have the exact same problem now. We produce enough oil and natural gas to be over 90% Self Sufficient in all of our energy needs and our stupid and crooked government and oil companies have now closed All of our refineries, export All of our oil and gas and then import every single drop back at an enormous cost to our people. We’re supposed to be an advanced country and we let these thieves do this to us. It is now so bad that we can’t even control our electricity supplies enough to be stable that we had to turn to Elon Musk to supply us with the worlds biggest solar battery array to stabilise the South Australian electricity supply so that in summer we don’t have continuous rolling blackouts. On top of that we’ve recently been told that our natural gas exports are so high that even buying it back from overseas the government cannot guarantee that we will have enough to meet our domestic demands and are unable to force the companies taking our resources to even give us enough for our own needs. I note that the americans don’t make this a big news story. Could it be that they are making america great again by their massive multinational oil companies getting in bed with the governments to rape our country of all of its natural resources? At least someone in Africa is trying to turn it around for them. We are faced with an Indian power company wanting our government to lend them 4 Billion dollars of our money so they can dig up Queensland to create the biggest coal mine ever in the country, risking permanent destruction of the Great Barrier Reef with the outflow from the mine, so that they can take the coal to India to power a whole bunch of new coal burning power stations. Doesn’t look like we can stop the Adani coal mine going ahead or ever get our oil and gas back from Shell and the like. More power to the Africans, get your country back from them before they control you like they do us.

      Thabo Sethipa Nigerians are running to South Africa? Lol please don’t exaggerate most Nigerians would rather stay in Nigeria. South Africa does nothing for Nigeria. Nigeria is working on massive projects across the country(Eko Atlantic) that will serve to make the nation the hub of commerce in Africa. I don’t see much coming from South Africa.

    • @africaman7959
      @africaman7959 6 років тому +2

      Thabo Sethipa, You must be a fool for comparing South Africa which is governed and owned by the white to Nigeria. South Africa is a white man's country and all infrastructure placed on ground is from the white. Go and trace where u came from if u are one of those black xenophobic people claiming to be South African. You should be proud of NIGERIA, a country with over 200 million people and originally Black Nation with such development at hand. One more time go and trace your root the white people own S.A

    • @africaman7959
      @africaman7959 6 років тому +4

      Thabo Sethipa, You must be Dis-informed...lol. NIGERIA and S.A who helped each other during the time....
      Below are 13 ways Nigeria helped South Africa in their struggle against Aparthied in case they seem to have forgotten;
      1.) Nigeria set up the National Committee Against Apartheid (NACAP) in 1960.
      2.) The late Sunny Okosun composed a song called “Fire in Soweto” in 1977 to show support for the fight against apartheid
      3.) From 1966, Nigeria gave material and financial support to the freedom fighters in South Africa
      4.) Then Nigeria’s Prime Minister, Alhaji Abubakar Tafawa Balewa sent letter to South Africa’s ANC militants on April 4, 1961 showing support for their cause.

      5.) Nigeria provided $5 million to the ANC and the Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) annually.
      6.) In 1976, Nigeria set up the Southern Africa Relief Fund (SAFR) for the purpose of bringing relief materials to the victims of the apartheid
      7.) The military administration of General Obasanjo contributed $3.7 million to the fund and Obasanjo personally donated $3,000 to the fund.
      8.) All Nigeria’s civil servants and public officers made a 2% donation from their monthly salary to the SAFR.
      9.) Nigerian students skipped their lunch to make donations, and by June 1977, the total contribution to the fund had reached $10.5 million. The donations to the SAFR were widely known in Nigeria as the “Mandela tax”
      10.) Between 1973 and 1978, Nigeria contributed $39,040 to the UN Educational and Training Programme for South Africa
      11.) Nigeria boycotted the 1976 Olympics and Commonwealth games in 1979 as part of our protest against apartheid in South Africa
      12.) From 1960 to 1995, Nigeria spent over $61 billion to support the end of apartheid, more than any other country in the world.
      13.) Nigeria refused to sell oil to South Africa in protest against the white minority rule. Nigeria lost approximately $41 billion then. $41billion dollars. Remember this was our oil boom moment. As long as we fought apartheid, the money meant nothing.

Remember tourism will not bring more money to the Economy more than a oil refinery, with tourism comes the problem of security and you know Nigeria is not a safe Country. The security no factor in Nigeria, our cops are undertrained etc. Oil refinery is far better than keeping a beach safe for tourists in my humble opinion.

      The owner of this pipeline, can make the world a better palce but he simply chooses to squander any and all potential for that so eh can make some money in 7 years time. This is why no body ever beleives a rich man can be genuinely altruistic, because they do everything for themselves.
      Like if you got 12 Billion dollars to open up an oil pipeline you got connections enough to provide free food worldwide, but ohh no , thats too hard. Feed humanity PFfft. why od that when we can have them do back breaking work.

      That's a very harsh and inconsiderate comment to make if you do not know the state of elections in that region. Maybe you should do more research before damming someone who is only stating their point of view. Elections in Nigeria (and some other Nations in the world) are not as simple and diplomatic as Western countries like the United States of America. Just saying.

      Lashawnda Sneed am Nigerian and yes i do know how shit is there. Again people allow these things. You telling me that buhari should really be a president. A fucking military dictator, the whole country should be trying to block people like him from taking office again but did that happen?

    • @Lashawnda-Ndubueze
      @Lashawnda-Ndubueze 8 років тому +17

      ekelo ekete Nigeria recently got it's independence in the 60's. The country has a long way to go in creating a system that benefits the people. Buhari should not be President or any militant for that matter, but until the country establishes an effective check in balance system by default the man with the money and the military will lead. It's not the fault of the people. The system is failing the Nigerian people. Until Nigeria gets a strong diplomatic leader who can unit all of the ethnic groups in harmony nothing will change. I pray for Nigeria's welfare and success because the success of African or Black Nations are a tremendous win for all Blacks all over the world. I am African American and even as a child I never understood what was holding African Nations back from competing globally. I now have a better understanding, the people want change, Nigeria needs a strong and influential leader. Dangote would be a great candidate but the man is already doing so much. I have faith in Nigeria despite all the odds against the Nation.

      @tobiseed9656 5 років тому +1

      Wait until the developing nations pollute and use the oil power to get to a level where their citizens would be very comfortable like yours, then they can think about renewable energy. We can not think of renewable energy when out people are in poverty. So it took you 150 years and many more years for some European nations to damage the earth and make your people comfortable. Now you are talking about renewable energy. For now, renewable energy stay far away from Africa. We do not care. We will use fossil fuel and coal and any means possible like China to build our nations(Africa) to a level where our citizens are comfortable and to a state where African countries would be called developed world. When we get there, then we will pay attention to renewable energy. So go somewhere with you renewable energy. Keep it going, we will catch up later. We have 54 countries in Africa (bigger than any continent), our population is growing per Euler's function, not like yours that is growing like natural logarithmic function (ln). So even if you do not buy our crude oil, we have a very huge market that fossil fuel would sell for so many generations, and we will use it to drive our countries and continent to where the first or second derivatives will equal zero. Hahahahhaa The funniest thing is it is taking us less years than it took your country and continent to get there. We are rising so fast. You need to leave the shores of western hemisphere and visit Africa, for get all the lies the western medie show you. Then your mouth will drop. Anyways enjoy. One love.
