That building you saw on the way into Union Station was the Uline Arena, aka/Washington Coliseum. Opened in the 40s. The Beatles played there in 1964. Thanks for the great content!

Thanks for a great video! Though now out west, I grew up in Newark, DE, and traveled the NE Corridor a lot back then. I appreciate seeing these views again.
The Marcus Hook refinery was one of the oldest and longest-running in the United States when it was permitted to shutter; the shuttering was due to age, as the refinery predates World War I. (It is also on the National Register of Historic Places - one of a mere three refineries to make the list while in operation.)
Thank you RRF Great trip very good commentary. Not sure if I have said this to you before. But way back in the late 1968 - 76 intern job after school and on weekends. Used to ride the express/1st style of Metroliner BUDD built. back and forth from NYC WDC for the firm I worked for. A 4 to 5+ hour trip. Yeh they said 3 hours. LOL that was a laugh. But what I miss doing that trip a few times a week was getting to know the crew. and to the point of never having to ride in the coaches. yep, up front on the front platform with the engineer (metroliner) and up front in the E60, Aem7, and yes even got to sit in the 2nd eng on the double headers of the GG1's Love that sound they made under heavy load 12 and 14 coach's and they could move. You had a very none click clack of the rail joints. No Doppler sound flying past the grade crossings with the bell sounding, lots of crossing back then. No more viewing busy working electric Arc furnace of the many many steal plants right next to the right of way both sides. I used to know almost every inch of that run. The Baltimore Gauntlet track in the B&P tunnel. I also noticed on your trip into the interlocking of Wash DC, wow North and South sides of the station so much high rise building is going on. Things have sure changed. I am going to book a round trip. LIRR, Amtrak. that should be fun. It's been for me much much too long. No Pullman heavy weights, a lot is gone. But it's still fun for us to walk out our door and go from LI to Wash DC. We are very lucky. Much blessing to your family. and Thank You.

I`ve read on the Wikipedia entry for MARC that MARC is talking about extending service on the Penn Line that normally ends at Perryville, MD all the way to Newark, DE and maybe even to Wilmington, DE.
The only reason it stopped in Aberdeen was COVID-19 = pre-COVID-19, it ran to Elkton/Rising Sun. (AMTRAK used the Wilmington and Bear shops for MARC maintenance pre-COVID.)

The Commodore Barry Bridge is the proper name of the "Chester - Swedesboro Bridge" - Biden lives near Greenville, Delaware, 10 or more miles from Claymont.
25:54 - West Yard - used to be where PRR locals to Wilmington would lay up between runs, now a MOW base.
I have relatives in Marcus Hook - but because I never took SEPTA here, I got off (and was picked up) at what is now the Biden Transportation Center in Wilmington (where DE 4 and US 13 meet). The three next SEPTA stations - Claymont, DE, Marcus Hook, PA, and Chester, PA (opposite side of Interstate 95) are all on US 13 (10th Street in PA). DiCostanza Sandwich Shop used to be B&M Sandwich Shop - and sold hoagies even then - I bought hoagies there under both sets of owners my whole life - since I was a teenager in the 1970s - it's a two-block walk on PA 452 from the SEPTA Marcus Hook station (10th @ Market) - Market Street itself has an exit off of I-95 (the second such in Pennsylvania - Chichester Avenue is first - which also runs to Market Street - which is where it ends right at the sandwich shop). In other words, while I never caught a train here, I'm decidedly familiar with the area. Other interesting takes on Wilmington and the BTC - the gas station here is Exxon - not Sunoco or Sun Oil - despite the refinery - and is served by the same exit off Interstate 95 as the BTC - and DE 4 (Maryland Avenue).
The north Baltimore tunnels are Union Tunnels. Enjoyed the ride.

Loved watching for video..started watching as you were leaving Philadelphia all the way to DC. Wanted to add that MARC runs two lines to Baltimore from DC. The one you were on uses the Northeast corridor tracks and is totally electrified. The other runs to Camden Yards and has no electric overhead. It uses what you talked about where one was I guess was the B&O line (non electric), and the other Pennsylvania Railroad (electric)
On the other side from Perryville is Port Deposit (and the old NRTC Port Deposit) from the Jim Crow days - when Jim Crow was killed by President Truman, it became the eastern NRTC until the USN shrunk enough where Great Lakes NRTC could take up the entire load. Because "American Bandstand" was originally just up the road in Philly, it interacted with the Port Deposit NRTC and the entire area between Baltimore and greater Philadelphia - this was according to Clark himself.
I think the segment between Wilmington and Baltimore is faster than Philly to NYC. Because you can go from Philly to Baltimore in about 65 minutes on Acela and its 94 miles. it takes Greyhound 3 1/2 hours to get from Philly to Baltimore. I think it's kind of sad that even in 2022 on a higher speed train, it still has to slow down from 135mph to 40 to switch tracks. thats just stupid. Union Tunnel is the northern tunnel in Baltimore.

There are freight tracks on both sides of Interstate 95 - and both connect to the old Conrail Marcus Hook Shared Operations Yard (southern side of Interstate 95) - it was originally a Pennsylvania Railroad (freight) yard that services the Sunoco Refinery, then it went to Conrail, and is now owned by CSX as part of the Conrail Shared Ops group; East Penn (reporting name ESPN) and other short lines come down to Marcus Hook to collect and distribute loads. (No; ESPN has no connection to a sports channel in Connecticut!)
Love and appreciate your videos along with the narrative. Have you ever considered riding on MARC between DC Union Station on the Northeast Corridor route as well as the Camden route to Camden Yards? I’ve been telling myself to take that Camden route one of these days.
While the two lines have a common southern end - Union Station - the northern ends differ - the Camden Line ends at Camden Yards - not Baltimore Penn Station.
@@christopherestep9334 I’m aware of that. However Camden Yards station is downtown as opposed where Union Station is. I was wondering his thoughts on the non electrified and slower route even though it’s a shorter distance.
It is Just like the Northeast Corridor Route on Microsoft Train Simulator.

We also have a Bowie in Arizona, pronounced the same as the one in Maryland.

This run of yours duplicates my usual runs of 1979 and 1980 - as I only took Metroliner Service all of once during the period. What music did you use for your opener for this video? (I noticed the addition of the SEPTA work train fromy our Chestnut Hill East catch.)
