Wow this is absolutely amazing congratulations and thanks for sharing
old polaroid: we're going to do things that people think impossible and make it happen!
New polaroid: we can't fit 10 pictures in a cartridge and we're not doing anything about it.
*proceeds to discontinue spectra film instead of making a new camera
Also, why is no one talking about the Polaroid Go only having 8 shots a cartridge as well? They had a chance to make it 10, but when I asked Polaroid about it, they still gave me the classic "the new film is thicker... bla bla bla" excuse, which I really don't think is valid for this entirely new format.
@@tresto9514 I thought about that the other day there's no excuse.
Oh the pain of being a long time Polaroid fan... :-‘( What happened Impossible?
@@tresto9514 it’s just an excuse to make more money per pack. You know what else no one mentions? The fact that their film chemistry STILL fails to reliably spread cleanly over all of the frame, even in the new cameras... Unless they’re pre-dirtying their Polaroid I-Type camera rollers, I want an answer.
Bro that lamp assault was so unbelievably funny. You killed it on this video. Would die to film a 2 minute horror short on this film, completely wild to see it come alive!
Man it was like nothing else when that light came on and actually showed something! That old-school Polaroid innovation
I just found a pack of this film in my grandmother's temperature controlled storage unit today. Would be happy to give it to you. I bet you have a better chance of getting it to work then I do.
Holy cow, I can't believe it was back in December when I talked to Thomas about his successful use of Polavision. Am glad he sent you a working cartridge and that his stuff was shared with the world, it was very cool to watch.
Can you imagine that this specific film was destined to be in your hands almost 40 years after the production…
it is nice that you got to re enact a day in the 1980's
He even has the Ghostbusters shirt!
My mind is absolutly blown. Thank you for sharing this with the world.
Awesome, I couldn't wait till the end. So cool that you included your family in this moment. In all likelihood, this is indeed the last working complete Polavision demonstration. Thanks for posting this, it made my day.
I just want to say that your dad wearing your shirt is the cutest thing in the world. Genuinely Heartwarming.
5:06 I am surprised how good the footage looks.
historic moment
i think it was the last usable pack
That is the most impressive Polaroid technology I know of congratulations 👏
I worked at Polaroid in the late 90s-2000s and one older guy I worked with was given a task in the mid to late 80s: smash all the unsold polavision cameras kept in shipping containers at the Needham MA warehouse.
This video made me realize that polavision is basically motion picture autochrome, which is pretty awesome.
Polavision 10 years earlier might've slowed the home video birth by another decade. At the very least, this kind of shoot & develop film tech would've likely lasted late into the 80's and potentially into the early 90's.
I love that you used it while hanging out with your family. Something about using it the way it was more than likely meant to be used just made it more special.
My salute to the unsung hero that kept 2 cartridges frozen for 40 years
Great vid. So fun. You could try 665 from ‘87.
Enjoyed the video! My new player, camera and likely useless film are on the way via eBay! So excited!
& that's why we always cold store our film
Refrigerators for the win, again!
Well, that was a kind of milestone….. and literally a “one in a lifetime” experience! 😃💥👌👍
this is absolutely incredible. it must be great to know that you most likely shot the last working cartrage and it must be cool for you family to know they're the last people to be recorded on the format.
I love this video! I could just feel your excitment being able to record on that old format. Hundreds of years from now I bet this video will be greatly appreciated by future generations. Way to go. I liken you to be an arecheologist just as much as you are an expert of film.
I stopped while watching - you cannot imagine how I crossed my fingers for you. Getting a pack of film from Germany seems promising. A common preconception about Germans is "we're not doing things half-a**ed" (in German: "ganz oder garnicht"). So when you were told it was cold stored, it SURE WAS COLD STORED. (All the thirtysome years...)
...now continuing to watch... I am excited to see if you got anything visible...
Can we all just overflow polaroid with emails about potentially bringing this format back? I have one of these polaroid land cameras and it just sits on my shelf. I'd love to put it to use some day 😩
Well done! Very cool to see this in action.
Well done for your patience Its so good to salute a product that could have been better, but was overtaken by fuzzy VHS
Amazing!! I’d love to have a go of their instant 35mm film but it’s kinda hard to find online nowadays. Wish they’d bring it back.
And now we can take movies with our phone that have quality easily very acceptable for anyone.
In fact, my friend who is a videographer says he himself cannot tell the difference between footage from a phone and that of a several thousand dollar digital camera.
He also says they can shoot professionally on digital well enough to almost entirely mimic the look and feel of film (if they want to).
Looking back at what we wouldn't put up with in 1979 shows us that the marketplace, given its head, can bring us greater and greater things.
That's a time travel movie from 1982, with images from the future 39 years ahead.
3:25 1983: Optometrists report a sudden upsurge in "arc-eyes" among children around Christmas.
This is so cool!. I was able to buy a cartridge just for collecting purposes but I know it won’t work. Happy to see you succeed.
I just discovered we have a Stop Action Land Player. Perhaps the light is burnt out? Nevertheless, we have 13 cartridges we would love to see what's oh them, but also to specifically have the film transferred to a thumb drive. Can anyone direct me where I might be able to send them? Thank you!
You should actually be able to have the film taken out, scanned, and put back in without destroying the cartridge.
You could practice cracking them open with the dud ones you shot way back.
I burned the finish off of my grandmother’s side table with a super 8 movie light in the 1970s. I don’t think she ever forgave me.
Dufaycolour was made in cine and slide formats in the late 1940s/1950s. The base film was Ilford FP3? and the additive layer was in stripes. Of course the same process was used for Autochrome around 1900. The Dufaycolour movies could be projected on normal projectors so maybe Polaroid could have produced a projectable film?
Old movie lights were insane (this Polaroid one was nothing out of the ordinary, Super 8 film was no faster than Polavision). Mine is a 1000 W halogen, absolutely blinding! Not sure what this one is, probably less than 1000 W.
This is amazing. This has now become a very historic film. And the volunteer subjects are going to become famous now.
Nice video. Interesting format, which I had never heard of even being the techno goon of the 70's, 80's and 90's.
Awesome! Just started into film photography and Polaroids(I have 4!). Subscribed!
Crazy. I remember seeing one of these a K-mart when I was a kid. It was fascinating how it could possibly work. Hey I have a Kodak instant film cartridge that's been frozen since their patent debacle. Want it?
oh man.. someone in my area sold a polavision camera with the monitor for 45€ or so.. i with i had had the money to buy it at that time =/ it‘s such a cool looking thing..
A great piece of history. Imagine knowing that you have appeared in the last ever example of a film format ever recorded. I doubt if anyone else has ever done that! Thanks a million for sharing the experience.
I think the exposed film is quite temperature sensitive so, if you do indeed intend to keep your forty-year old 'Phototape', I'd seal it in a bag and keep it cold. I tried reviewing a few of my films several years after normal room-temperature storage and none was playable - a broad stripe of discoloration had replaced the centre of every film. 'Best of luck from the UK.
Color accuracy on Polavision basically perfect compare to awful 8 mm colors!
What... how did you? ... For real? This is legit exp '80s Polavision film? This video is honestly incredible. And wow look at that footage, who would've thought that'd be possible after so many years. The film is so incredible, looks like you're back in time
do you think it would be possible to shoot super8 film with the camera?
Today we were cleaning out our grandmother's storage. And I found one pack of polavision film unopened. The storage was temperature controlled. I wonder if the film has a chance of working.
Unfortunately the camera that was next to it was completely destroyed.
As a kid I found a box of old cameras and a boxy-screen type thing. I had no idea at the time, and ended up keeping the video camera element of this set-up! I just recently sold it with a lot of other old cameras, BUT I just came across a pile of family videos in these old 608 Polavision cartridges!
Gets something really cool and rare, doesn't make anything interesting with it...
Love this. Thanks for sharing. And your dad is flogging your merch hah!
Fantastic work. Now that you've done type 40 roll film and Polavision, your final boss will be shooting Kodak Instant film!
This is Thomas again, the pre-owner of Noah's cartridge. I asked the guy, who bought these cassettes 40 years ago and kept them in the freezer, to write down some words. Have fun:
Whoever was the 420th like I hate you; I was 421 😂this was the first time I have heard of this and will buy in a heart beat if it’s still made…. Thank you for this video !!!
Today I visited a garage sale in Colorado and found a Polavision Case with instant replay control and a seal polavision photo tape cassette, the lady told me it has been storage since she buy it , I just started to investigate about this camera and your video has help me understand how everything work, thank you for this awesome video
What this world needs is a film buff that's also a multibillionaire. Someone who's willing and able to sink a lot of money into a project like One Instant and even up for reinventing the wheel, if need be.
Thomas, I know you're watching this video and I hope you see this comment, would you be so kind and tell us how much you payed for the two cartridges? I'd be sooooo interesting!
Bye from a fellow German :)
schau Dir meinen Kommentar hier an, Dein Thomas Degenfelder! Ich kann Dir gerne den screenshot der damaligen eBay-Anzeige schicken, gib mir Deine E-Mail-Adresse!
@@thomasdegenfelder4903 oh, hab gerade deine Kommentar gesehen...
Man that child on the advertisement or brochure thing was terrifying
bro i was smiling when the cartrigde works, thats polaroid !!!
Living proof that film can last decades past it's expiration date of you keep it stored in the refrigerator or even better the freezer.
This is like totally amazing. I mean -- you are most like the last person in the entire world to use this format. Historic!
wow, i have the same sit of camera and viewing screen with some types that i think some of them was devolved, i remember watching some videos on that screen in early 80s, i will try to see if i can make it work.
Yeah this is so cool! I to have a complete polavision set but the player has a gear that has split in two. I also have developed cartridges but never played them. I mainly have them because eumig has produced these sets for polaroid so it fits in my collection
🤯🤯🤯
When shooting off a screen make sure you turn off the auto focus on the camera and focus manually.
Heeeyyy that looks like a 16mm Mitchell/CP-16
Somewhere in NYC Patti Smith is crying!
Awesome video amazing seeing this in working order!
This is literally unbelievable. I can't believe this worked back then, and it's insane that this pack survived almost 40 years.
Yesss this is so sick! Not gonna lie the last video where you got zero results was a bummer so I’m stoked to see you get some results on this new tape!
This is the first UA-cam video I have seen with no dislikes
My mind is absolutly blown. Thank you for sharing this with the world.
Great video! I bought one of these system back in the late 70s. I'm sure it was on some kind of close-out deal. It was about $150 or so which was a lot of money to a young teenager back then, but I couldn't believe that the capability to shoot film and watch it 10 minutes later even existed. This was a miraculous promise in the pre-video camera era so I scraped my pennies together.
I shot about 10 cartriges. I don't remember how much the cartriges were back then, but I'm sure they couldn't have been cheap. We made a movie called "Mr. Clumsy" about an awkward guy who tripped and fell over the cliffs near the Golden Gate Bridge. We dressed a dummy up and threw him off. You have to remember there was absolutely no editing capabilities available in this system so you could distinctly see two people throwing Mr. Clumsy over the edge.
My favorite memory of the system that was shown in your video was that movie light! It was SO bright and it got SO hot that I was worried I'd burn someone with it.
Now there is hardly anyone on the face of the earth who doesn't have far superior video creating equipment right in his or her pocket. Even though this is true today, I'll never forget how much fun we had with my Poloroid movie system.
It’s complete magic. I’m so glad that it got sent to you!
Wholesome episode, great stuff!
that looks like a full screen of swirly bokeh
So badass 😁 I was crossing my fingers the whole time!
It’s like the last Kodachrome
Congratulations for getting to do this. That's a real honor. Love this "humans seeing fire for the first time " moment! LOL @ 05:00 thats the magic of film...no one does that for video.
So what is this gnarly chemical
Dude. That’s amazing.
It's incredible that Polaroid didn't only make like the regular Polaroid films, but also 35mm instant film and Super 8. It's super interesting, that those things didn't take of as the regular Polaroids did
Wow 🎉❤❤❤
Well, that's a video light 😅
Wow this polavision continues
This is amazing and I am grateful that you shared the results!
Your old mans right - great ad for the shirts since I had no idea you had them haha.
One day people will see this and be like : so this is what people in 2022 did with their spare time. War or filming modern day on old stuff. No wonder humanity got overthrown by cats.
I’m so glad that even though cats have overthrown humanity they’re still maintaining the internet so people can watch UA-cam videos
wow, that house could do with a tidy up
History in the making
First time that i see polavision twilight in action fantastic 😍
This is a ridiculous format. It's totally genius
Also I've been inspired by your channel and just developed my first 120 roll in my new Yashica 124!
Very impressive !
Thats way cool
Love it!! ❤
Awesome! Back To The Past!!!
Holy crap!
brilliant !
I’ve just found 7 old family polavision cassettes (all labelled as re-run which I think means developed). Presume I can just put these through the Polaroid projector, which we still have, and then record the screen?
Did you try it? What happened?
One of the 7 got completely jammed - we disassembled the projector to try and free it but alas to no avail. We therefore sent the remaining 6 to a specialist to convert to digital format, they turned out great
