I played the Twighlighter at Sweetwater's Gear Fest... didn't realize I was speaking with the Magnatone's CEO as I demo'ed the amp (great guy by the way). I have a JC120 and I have wanted an amp that does the JC vibrato with the lushness of a tube driven circuit: it blew my mind with how gorgeous it sounded. I am trying hard not to justify the price, but the new Magnatones are beautiful amps. Thank you for the video.
Oh my gosh, the tone of that guitar, amp and your fingers is phenomenal One of the best I've ever heard on YT, and that was listening on crummy TV speakers.
Thanks for doing this bro. I asked this question a couple months ago when we were chatting. Sounds great man. Still has the vintage crunch. Love this vibe. You sold me on it.
Loving these vids! When demoing an amp in the future, if you could show how they sound with single coils and humbuckers, that'd be even more awesome :)
Very nice amp! Love to see another show with you and Chad when you men talk about any and everything guitar related sharing your combined wealth of information while y'all jam a little bit together. Love your hands on reviews learn a lot watching you attack that fretboard and try to apply some of your movement and techniques to to my own style. Most of the time you're jamming and that's when guitar goes from playing a song to having fun 👍
So... which breakup/overdrive tone do you prefer... the reissue or the old Varsity 108? What about compared to the 50/60’s Gibsons like GA-5T or GA-20?
Just curious - does this Magnatone sound decent at low volumes? I don’t usually run my amps super dirty. Maybe edge of breakup or a little softer. I’m used to the volume of a Princeton Reverb at maybe 4-5, and I’m not sure if this Magnatone would just blow the roof off my house with its volume. Just looking for something that can both gig and be somewhat tolerable at home!

Dang! From watching your firearms videos, I never would have guessed that you would also collect music gear and be a decent player. Dig it!

Love my varsity reverb...
Loved the vibe on this one! Thanks for sharing as usual!

Gotta be one of the coolest looking amps ever!
Brother Eric, Yo, that intro jam was BEAUTIFUL! Just saying man. Later...
Yo is this the same dude from the iraqveteran8888 channel?
yep!
great sound.
What's the reverb/delay pedal you used? It sounds really nice.
Microphonic tube?

The 108 was their best amp IMO followed by the 115 Lyric
@@Guitarsenal Not a big fan of the 213 Troubador or 260/280 models?

I would compare the output to a Princeton but probably a bit cleaner headroom
I have a Varsity...and it does sound great at "barely cracked" volume.
@@drewbybee4074 Thanks! I ended up getting a Varsity too! Wish I could open it up more at home, but it sounds pretty good with pedals!
Killer intro... When its' really good like that, you should keep playing longer. lol.. 5 mins at least.
Now watch Johan Segeborns Video of the 50s Magnatone Varsity an you will never touch this harsh and brittle crap again.
We have dozens of vintage magnatone videos
