    Synopsis
Jodie Foster stars as Clarice Starling, a top FBI training academy student. Jack Crawford (Scott Glenn) wants Clarice to interview Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins), a brilliant psychiatrist who is also a violent psychopath, serving life behind bars for various acts of murder and cannibalism. Crawford believes that Lecter may have insight into a case and that Starling, as an attractive young woman, may be just the bait to draw him out.

This is my favorite reaction that you’ve done, Frank! (I say that with all your reactions… Lol) I believe I saw Jodie Foster interviewed once and she said when they were making this movie, she and Anthony Hopkins never saw each other, except when they were actually filming the scenes. That way, all of their interactions with each other would be true and intense. It worked. You always give such a calm and thoughtful summary whenever you stop the recording to speak. The way you do that and the tone of your voice make it wonderful to watch. I loved the laugh when you saw the ending!

At this point every reaction I do will be your favorite, I think that means I'm getting better that's what I do😄🕺🏾
That I truly makes a lot of sense. She legitimately seemed scared of him. That just assumed it was really good acting (which of course it was that too)

Even better... dial back and see MANHUNTER (1986) with William Petersen which is the first Hannibal film, and is considerably more powerful than RED DRAGON, done years later. RED DRAGON is a worthy entry, but MANHUNTER replaces weak actors with powerful ones, and the climatic ending has Iron Butterfly's soundtrack pounding the audience for the finale.

Hannibal was intrigued by Clarence. She was a little female, but she was determined to save victims. She ignored her fears, and the sexism and disrespect did not deter her. She came back even after what happened in the first meeting. He wanted to see why she was who she was. He also wanted to manipulate the situation so he could escape.

    1. The lisping sound Hopkins makes after he says, 'I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti." is the first scene he and Foster did together and he wanted to freak her out, so her reaction is real.
    2. Ted Levine/Buffalo Bill was so disturbing that he received death threats after this was released.
    3. The FBI actually let them use their Quantico facility to film.
    4. In the book Crawford did have a "thing" for Clarice.😈
    5. "I'm coming to get you Murdock". The late Charles Napier/Lt. Boyle😇 played Murdock in "Rambo First Blood II". A great first time/share.
    6. Everybody is hitting on Clarice but IRL hitting on Foster is a waste of time and effort. She doesn't fly that way. She has been married to a woman since it became legal in Caliphony.
    7. Dr. Lecter was treating Clarice.
    8. Others will pass this to you as well but: This movie won ALL 5 of the big Oscars.

Hannibal Lecter is a psychiatrist, not a psychologist. He is an MD. When he's talking about coveting and coveting things we see everyday, he's giving her the clue that Buffalo Bill knew at least his first victim. That would give her a place to start. That's what she and her friend figure out.
Also, remember he mentions The Belvedere in their first meeting. The first girl and Buffalo Bill are from a town called Belvidere.
I think he makes the comment to the Senator about her suit because he knows what Buffalo Bill is doing with the skins.

Wonderful reaction! Frank, I appreciate your own boundaries of the kinds of films that you want to be exposed to. I am with you. Sometimes I make an exception for a film that overlaps with horror if its tastefully done and/or is concerned with saying something meaningful about humanity. This film crosses over for me. Another film you should consider is Shutter Island (by Martin Scorsese), which operates on a few different levels, or most of the films by M Night Shyamalan.

I wonder if Crawford chose Clarice because she is new & fresh, so maybe he didn't want someone who has worked a bunch of cases and bring each experience in their thoughts, so maybe not as clear. Also, i think Hannibal knows how intelligent he is, so to have a seasoned agent on the case Hannibal might not be as willing. But a fresh mind he can work with and manipulate. Of course Hannibal gets intrigued by her & decides to help her. Just a few thoughts.

Funny story about this movie. In my very late 20's, lived a few blocks from the movie house. Bored on a Saturday night, I walked to watch the midnight showing by myself. I didn't get out till almost 2am. When I got out all I could think of was that Lecter was now loose in the streets. So I walked into the taxi stand and asked for a cab. When I said were I was going, they made it a point to say I was in walking distance. So had to Explain I just came from the movie. When the cab for me came he said the same thing. When I explained about the movie I just came from, he laughed at me 😂😂😂 I was so embarrassed. It was a quiet dark suburban neighborhood. So embarrassed!!!😂

I think Crawford sent Starling to Lecter as an intentional provocation. Lecter is Crawford's biggest catch, and by sending a student, Crawford is signaling to Lecter that (1) he's not as important as he used to be, and (2) that Crawford believes he's irrelevant to the current case.
I think #2 is actually a lie--that Crawford does believe Lecter has information, but he's creating a situation where Lecter is motivated to prove his own relevance.

The scenes with Hannibal and Clarice are some of my all-time favorite scenes on film, period. Brilliant in every way. Believable character motivations, nuances of performance, great camera work, and so on.
Then in the film, they spend the whole beginning of the movie building up Hannibal as the scariest of bad guys and yet he NEVER disappoints. As built up as he is, he still exceeds what you think he is. He’s always in control. Always calm. Vicious and brilliant.

You surprised me a couple of times, ngl but I'm glad you enjoyed this movie. Lecter in this movie was kinda like the anti-hero, specially at the end scene lol. Didn't this movie live up to it's hype? Such an iconic performance by Anthony Hopkins, despite having such a limited amount of screen time he captivated his audience enough to win an Oscar for his portrayal of Lecter. Jodie Foster did a wonderful job as well n too bad she's not on the sequel but it's a good movie still

Your laughter was perfect at noticing that tidbit. One of my favorite movies. But notice in that he was going after the warden it's like icing on the cake, holy s*** that was a cherry on top lol.. I feel bad for people who didn't get it.
That is not surprising at all, he's so freaking good. he wasn't even on screen for a long time at all, but every time he was? He stole the freaking show. Wow wow wow so good. Thanks for watching🧡🧡

By the way... after Hannibal has torn up one deputy's face and beaten the other fellow, he looks around on the floor and grabs a small white penknife. With a short blade. Perfect for small, angled cuts around lips, ears, eyes, noses. Especially on a face that's already had bleeding. "Ready when you are, Sgt Pembrey." Indeed.
