Just starting. Found the most bad ass gym ever. It's in an RV storage unit. Everything is old, and beat up. Not many students. coach is 63y old has been boxing for 50 years. Old mexican dude. He's the first person I've ever met in my life that has showed me patience. Keep doing what youre doing man, this channel is a daily routine for me now.

I wish I had a Coach like you Coach V, because my boxing coach never taught my anything, he just let's me come in the gym to hit the bag an spar. I'm self taught. I had to learn UA-cam an mimick what I saw, but thankful to God, I'm good at mimicking just about anything I see an thank to sparring pros I can hold my own really well. Alot lot of people say I have natural talent an I should turn pro, but I feel like I haven't reached my full potential, because I'm training under the wrong coach who doesn't want to help me despite the fact that I'm beating up some of his "prized Fighters" in sparring. An I've only been trying for a year while everyone else was training at his gym for years.

Thank you brother much appreciated, self taught people become unstoppable once they partner with the right mentor maybe he is just not a good match for you sounds like that's the case get on a mission to find somebody that you are compatible with its not easy to find a good coach but you have the intelligence to see you deserve better!!

true that, I only learned the basics and fundamentals of boxing from my first coach. After that, I just learn everything by doing drills recommended from UA-cam(especially Pee-ka-boo style drills from Cus D'amato)

Looking at a coaches students is a good idea. If they have people who have been training 6 months to a year and look pretty decent then there is a good chance they are a good coach. The quality of students does depend on who turns up at the gym, so its not everything, but it is a good indicator.

MMA has taken over everywhere. Boxing gyms are damn near impossible to come by these days. Can’t find ONE genuine classic old school boxing gym anymore. It’s all BJJ, Kickboxing and so on. And that’s not bad. Combat sports of all kinds matter. But damn man. It’d be nice to have more classic boxing gyms again.

Coach about communication...I am an amateur and I was working with a coach that is experienced, knowledgeable, he pushed me every day, but I felt that I wasn't able to properly communicate with him, during training and during fights.
I'm not training at the moment, but I'm not planning to come back to that gym and that's a reason why.
If you were in that kind of situation, would you stay or would you seek another gym ?
