I remember Manchester back in the 1970s and eating at Wimpys with my Mother after she finished work at Granada Television. Manchester seemed much slower back then, very fond memories I keep dear.

I doubt many people have seen this but it is great! Lovely to see how everything has changed. Wish they did something with the old building in the start of the video, it’s still stands there derelict.

That old building next to the bus stop at the beginning of the video was the old Library in Cheetham Hill. It is now derelict and destroyed inside even though it was a listed building.

I was born that year (in November) & Remember the old sights very well like the old Footbridge crossing Corporation Street linking the Arndale Centre & M&S before it was bombed out by the IRA in 1996, Cannon Street & the Arndale Bus Station, also closed down as a result of the IRA.

Back when Cheetham Hill Road was right and proper, old school motors and buses iconic to Manchester IMHO! I was living in Wythenshawe (and still do!) and turned 3 years old in August 1982!

Oh my days!!!!....at 0:20 the old orange & white GM Buses. I remember the 82/83 & 147 that took you to Oldham from outside what is now the Cash Generator. They kept them til the mid/late 90's. 9 yrs after this footage around 1991 we also got the bee-line red-roofed busses with the yellow bodies competing with GM....they didn't last against GM. I wish the Ozzie-guy that filmed this back then could've kept filming when he got off the bus, it would've been like a time-portal had opened up....I'd go back and stay there, it looked miles better, and so did the normal people....

If you worked at piccadilly radio in 1982, then maybe you could tell me where about's piccadilly records was in piccadilly gardens around this time! I cannot find anyone with any pictures or documentation on this, even the current staff at piccadilly records (some of which have worked there for 30 years or more!) have no pictures of where it was situated in the parade of shops at the gardens bus station! Also what was the record shops connection with edwin p lees?!

It was on Parker Street at ground level beneath Piccadilly Plaza. I recall it was in the middle where the buses pull up. It moved in about 1990 to Brown Street then to its present location on Oldham Street.

    An ancient manual ticket machine.
I bet you needed to pay "Exact Fare Please" on Msnchedter corporstion bus services back then.
Bring back Corporation buses all over the UK. It waa much more enjoyable to travel than it is today and you didn't lose your local bus aervice or under threat of losing your local bus service if it hasn't already been lost.
