Thanks Stephen for showing us the air show. Shame it was so overcast, I saw them practicing here in the skies above me in Lincolnshire on Saturday morning, the skies were pure blue and the aircraft looked lovely in the clear skies especially with the red, white and blue smoke trailing behind. Shame the pier has closed there in Southport, I went on it last time I was in Southport but that was about 10 years ago.
Great footage of the airshow it certainly brings in the crowds thanks for sharing.

Crikey not been to Southport for years, that is so sad about the pier. They need to get it sorted. Pity the weather wasn’t warm and sunny for you but everyone seemed to enjoy themselves xx

I can remember when The Red Arrows flew very low along the prom in Blackpool
during the 70's long before safety rules came in.
They are still the star of any airshow, 🙂👍💓
I do love the red arrows though. Used to see them when I was little on holiday at the Broadstairs Air Show in Kent. Brilliant x

Aww thanks Stephen really enjoyed that! The skills of those pilots are unbelievable! I don't do hights and think the wing walkers have a touch of insanity to do that. Hope you can cover the Blackpool air show and the Typhoon flies. 😊😊😊
Talking about BPB owning Pleasureland Southport, I was gutted when the Thompsons authorized the "sneaky" demolition of the wooden rollercoaster there, because I loved that coaster when I was younger.
The airshow looked fun :)
It really kicked off about the loss of the sand lizards habitat. I really liked that rollercoaster even though it was dead slow.

If it was a normal July day the sky would have been perfect for the display and no winter 🥶 clothing needed. Oh blimey this global warming is blinking cold Stephen. Shame all the retailers have lost their business on the pier and really enjoy the penny arcade at the end of the. Going to be many years before we can funny a Southport pier walk. Southport visitor newspaper is keeping people informed. Well done for braving the weather and glad the rain stopped. Good show 👍

I last saw The Red Arrows at The Great Yarmouth Airshow 2018, (a one off it’s never been held again too costly). Great shots there of The Red Arrows Stephen and of Blackpool Tower and The Big One👍

Shame about the weather and the Typhoon. Red arrows superb as usual, have been there in glorious weather and it is well worth a visit.
The image at Timestamp 9:51 is spectacular, especially with the Lake District behind Blackpool Tower.
It showcases your mastery of camera skills with a perfect composition and a slow enough shutter speed to capture motion blur of the props with a pin-sharp subject.

Hello again Steven, hope you enjoyed your visit to our town on the other side of the bay.The pier as you know closed back in dec 2022 due to a complete lack of maintenance from sefton council. Makes my blood boil,they spend millions on a concrete shopping centre that's losing money every year over in Bootle yet can't find any money to save our iconic pier.the main attraction in visiting southport roting away.my wife and i on new years eve would do what we called "end of the year, end of the pier",we would take a bottle of champagne 🍾 down there to see the sun set (hopefully) for the last time of the year,who knows when we will ever get to do that again. Rant over, hope you enjoyed the airshow,nos back to your vlog.

Great video Stephen the pier was damaged by bad weather so needs a lot of work.
There used to be an air show in Lowestoft in Suffolk, fairly near me. But they lost their funding. And it was a free event, and people going didn't contribute enough to keep it going.

I thought I saw you in the crowd on the Sunday. I went last year on the Saturday and eventually turned around and went home due to being stuck in the huge traffic jam in the town and all the parking spaces full up, went back on the Sunday and got rained on. Much better this year, though £12 for the ticket and £10 for parking was very steep given Blackpool is free and I was at the airshow in Cleethorpes a couple of weeks ago for the Armed Forces weekend and that was also all free (except parking which is still less than £10). Previorsly you could be on the pier but the pier itself has been closed for a couple of years due to it being unsafe

We go down to Southport twice a year as my Mums ashes are scattered there, and the pier has been closed for well over a year now. You can’t get any further than the back of Silcocks amusements. Another great video Stephen and great to see Southport, even though I was last there in May.

Yes, very strange regarding the pier southport. My mum went a few months ago and she got talking to a bloke and he said after some meetings he's been involved with he said he would be surprised to see it reopen in his life time 😮which is very sad cause there's a few jobs /- businesses on their.i have just found online that there is plans to reopen it but they're need 10m funding 😮 great shots their stephen nice cameras !

Hi Stephen good vlog we were in southport the weekend before the show and was suprised to see the pier still shut as we were there in march to find it closed apparantly they need 10 million pounds to restore it, so not sure when it will open again. Enjoy your vlogs me and hubby always watch. Hope its not all kicking off in Blackpool 😂 see you soon x
That's a lot of money, but it would be well spent to get the pier open again.

Great video as usual, been to Southport a few times but never to airshow. Surely you can get to the beach or thereabouts if you don't pay? I was thinking it doesn't look as busy as Blackpool (due to having to pay I guess), but then again everyone is crammed around the Tower and North Pier in Blackpool, whereas Southport has a lot of space to spread out. Looking forward to Blackpool airshow next month!
I think the blackpool is better and you don't have to pay been watching blackpool one for years definitely blackpool the better
We did see the air show from. Blackpool Tower on Sunday We took a friend of ours to top of Blackpool Tower he’d never been up before we did video it we did come across a man doing some photography on the steps down the beach I believe his name was al bat or all bat
From Blackpool you could here all jets in the distance coming from Southport if you could only zoom in further on the Tower you might have seen us at the top😂 if only, well it certainly looked a great day despite being overcast

That looked pretty lame. The CAA have legislated the life out of airshows, pushing the aircraft further out from - and higher up from - the spectators.
Did you think it was worth paying for what you can get for free in Blackpool. Think of the money they must be pulling in though.

14:50 14:50 Just wondering due to a couple of air disasters over the years that civilians on the pier would be against new health and safety laws , just a thought. Going back to the early 80's I was at Milden Hall US air force base for the air display the Red Arrows were present , tow of the aircraft did a very low fly by in opposite directions flying towards one another then flipped 90 degrees to avoid crashing , I only had the 110 Helina camera and got an almost perfect photo of them passing next to one another so NO health and safety 40 years ago.

@danielledewitt1 it's all over the local news sefton council havnt got the 13 million to reopen it yet. So for now it's closed permanently unless the funds drop from a money tree. No lies here.

Apparently the plans are in place for the work on the pier, tenders etc and contracts sorted, they are just waiting for funding to be finalised so they can give the go ahead for work to start. 13 million is a lot of money and that's just for the repairs more money will be needed for ongoing long term maintenance of the Southport pier. So not closed permanently but temporarily until funding is finalised and the pier has been made safe.
No the Thompson family don't own southport pleasure land or the land it's on.
