"There's no such t hing as a perfect painting but there is such a thing as a finished piece" Yesssssss. I'm starting out learning how to use gouache and I keep getting frustrated because it is quite a learning curve, but I"m becoming more aware that it's getting easier every time I use them. Thanks for this giving me a little inspiration to pick them up today :)

I never comment on videos, but I just wanted to let you know that I'm really glad I found this video! I have been in a perfectionism-procrastination cycle for YEARS which has kept me from doing so many things I want to do (Not just in terms of art, but pretty much anything). I have an anxiety disorder and let me just say, anxiety combined with being a perfectionist stops me from trying literally anything because I have such overwhelmingly high expectations that I deep down know I can never reach, so why even try? I'm scared of not doing things perfectly so I procrastinate so bad, and really really wish I didn't think like this! So hearing your words actually made me cry because I finally felt understood, and I really needed to hear all that. This video has helped me a lot!! Thank you

You got me. Buying art supplies makes me think that I'm actually doing something, and I'm not haha. I've actually started yesterday to work on small cloud studies and a smaller version of landscape I want to paint. It really helps to want to keep going and keep trying to paint it other way to find the right one.

You spoke straight to me! You just answered to all my worries and thoughts 😳 thank you!! I 've been dreading to touch my paintbrushes and just watch my unfinished projects in desperation. Even my palette has dried oil paints that I don't want to scrub off. I think a big mistake of mine is accepting to paint portraits for others. Painting for someone else creates so much anxiety to me that I should do them perfect so that I won't disappoint them and not fulfill their high expectations.

Thank you, your explanation of perfectionism rings true for me! I do get bogged down by watching so many videos, wanting to try the techniques but then saying to myself I would never be as good as the artist who did the video. So I dont even attempt the painting. Its difficult to not be so critical of my art and realize the more I practice the better I get so just do it! So thank you again! I will pick up my brush!!!

Thank you for the pep talk, I´ve been struggling with procrastination in art for so long because I constantly felt compelled to only paint finished, proper paintings on a big scale. It changed when I bought a 100% cotton Hahnemule sketchbook, I divided the pages into squares with washi tape so I only work on a small scale. It´s less scary, so I am more free to experiment and develop my ideas, this helps to start with bigger paintings afterwards!

I so identified with this, it's so me, watching loads of tutorials, buying more art supplies thinking I'm making progress but I put off the painting itself. I have such a bad habit of getting half way through a painting then I freeze, I like what I've done so far but then become gripped by the fear of, "But what if I ruin it now with the last bit." Then I stop painting and leave it half finished and if I do finish I'm putting so much pressure on myself. This video was exactly what I needed to hear and will probably watch it several times. Thank you for making the video it was so helpful and haven't seen any others like it, just what I needed.

Thanks mako☺. I really needed the advice. I was scared at first to put paints on my paper. I was constantly thinking about ruining the paper and the painting. I didn't even touch my paints for 2 months. I even stopped watching your videos. I thought that I would never become a watercolor artist. Everyone said that I should be perfect at everything I do. But, your video made me realize that, you don't have to be perfect, you just have to love what you do. And when I will make a great painting you will be the one to thank.

Hey Makoccino, I am a 14 year old girl. I am really interested in creativity, especially art. I started growing more and more interest in painting from 5th grade when I won 1st prize for painting. I went through many online and offline classes, of course I even went through UA-cam art channels too but I didn't find any of them satisfying then I just lost interest in it. In this corona pandemic, before 2 months I again wanted to paint because I was so bored in lockdown. I again came through UA-cam and luckily I found your channel and I am fully satisfied with your channel. Your paintings are just awesome. Since then I watched most of your videos and now I feel like I am 10th grade artist. I developed a lot. I am so thankful to you... Hope there should be no ending to this channel. You are indeed a great artist and the idea of giving some guidelines through email is such an great idea that... I don't know what to say but I am really really thankful to you. Have a great day each and every day Mako... Thankyou bye...

That part about the way you do one thing is the way you do everything is really true. I realized that I have been doing just that with my life. In every aspect, I feel like I am not good enough or skilled, or experienced enough to try and do it. I am not a beginner but yet every time is sit down to draw I feel an urge, a need to go back to doing beginner things as if I can't possibly be better. The thought that I am a fraud comes up and I feel this need to prove to myself that I can do beginner stuff perfectly so that I can move forward. But as you said perfectionism never comes and it just becomes a loop.

I commented on this video this morning ... and have really taken it to heart, since it describes me and my attitude towards many things, unfortunately. I am the one with the million colors, brushes, sketch books ... who always waits for "a better day to come". Of course, for all the reasons you mentioned. This attitude makes life difficult, exhausting and sometimes very frustrating. I was so stunned by this realization! I always knew it but it is different when somebody else holds a mirror in front of you!!! I actually grabbed my stuff, sat in the garden and painted. And instead of concentrating on the outcome I ACTIVELY tried to focus only on the process and the fun. It was a bit like an exercise of "Achtsamkeit", which is kind of a mental exercise to focus and be aware. I know I have to learn that with painting - and my attitude - the road should be important, not the finishing line. This was a very eye-opening video for me! Thank you, Mako! Regards from Berlin Germany 🤗

Maybe if I didn't meet Makoccino, I wouldn't have started painting!
I used to struggle with procrastination, but because I love creating art I kept in pushing until I don't need to care about perfect setting. There's no way there is gonna be perfect setting every single time we go to create art. So let's just go for it. The more we draw/paint the more we get better. Also not starting might mean that there's sth in the method of learning that needs to change as well. So it's good to listen to oneself by experimenting as well :D
Each time I forget that, I come to watch your videos and it helps.
