Good Deal. It should be a good time putting it together. I want to give some advise. Make sure you know what was in the barrel before. Is it combustible. I suggest using a Metal blade on jigsaw. No reason to use a torch on this metal. Pretty thin. Besides you are less likely to ignite anything inside by using the metal blade and jigsaw.
I did one and out the big bung hole on bottom for extra air . Combined with stove kit door slots it works really well! Also lined bottom of barrel with fire brick and sand so fire wouldn’t be resting on barrel to make last longer. It’s thin metal. But you did really good job. Keep it up
Thanks mike. I tell everyone that I sell to that they should at least line the bottom with play sand. I like the idea of lining it with sand as well as fire brick. I imagine that will really hold the heat.
This is actually a very fair price on both ends, it is a great way to earn an income, A decent stove cost an easy $500 most of the time even more, But not a lot of people have that kind of money to spend so like you said it’s a win-win
Look for a barrel that has the retainer ring that holds the top on. That way you can remove the whole front for cleaning out the ashes. I just works alot better that one with the solid top on it.
Just out of curiosity, how many cans of paint did it take to paint your barrel stove and how many coats did you put on? Enjoyed your video you done a real good job!
I just made 4 new ones and will be making some more soon. I was planning on making a video for those but just got caught up. Soon will go to town and get some more metal and will video how I do it. Thanks for the reply.
Yeah I have to agree. Just found an old WW 2 heavy steel barrel that was double barrel Stove. Super heavy super nice. I refurbished it and it’s got a great old kit on it.
I don't know IF... You remember "SOTZ" Manufacturing from the "Mother Earth News" of the 1960's & 1970's. They produced a superior ALL steel barrel stove kits, products and accessories. Their steel stove kits featured a free floating air tight door with a simple pivoting disc draft control and an internal draft channel. They were also famous for long (36"?) Handled fire tending tools. Then there were their ALL steel 8# & 12# "Monster Mauls" hand splitting tools. I don't know exactly what happened to them, my guess is some big stove company bought them out to eliminate their competition. They were far superior to the cast iron kits. They're sadly missed today.
@@rudygeorgiamulesandcountry1594 Check out my video of my old heavy metal barrel I found and restored. I tried to provide a link but it’s on my UA-cam page. Turned out pretty nice.
@@rudygeorgiamulesandcountry1594 Kimbak Inc used to make just the sealed door and kit you are talking about. I have searched and searched for these types of kits and cannot find them anywhere except a few old rusted ones. I love them. I am not a huge fan of the stove kits that are on the market today. I have decided to manufacture, create and build my own kit that has sealing door as well as sealing vent door with vent built in. Much better air flow and sealing of the kit itself as well as being able to manage your wood consumption.
Best build video on this kit! I just finished mine today and burned the paint off. Great video. Thanks.
Thanks for doing this. I have a kit on the way and it was great to get advice from someone who's done a number of these things.

thanks Jeff. I was hoping it was a descent price.
1:44 - Wow , the doors looked cooler back then!
Yeah they sure did. I have been searching far and wide for more of them.
Fantastic job great work
Nice work!
Now move the damper up into the stove pipe so it will turn, since your nice hot plate is in the way.
I tell everyone if it’s possible for them to move the damper up the pipe. Helps with draft a bit better also

Funny u say that. I just built one the other day with removable back to clean out.
They sell 55 Gallon stainless steel..
Used for fish oil and other products...stainless may last longer

I usually use 1.5 - 2 cans. I make sure they are covered good after sanding them down to bare metal.
That stove kit used to be carried by Samsons In Fai. It was pretty expensive tho.
Yeah I have seen these kits for sale in town for like $80!
I just did the same thing. But after you did the burn, how did you sand the paint off before repainting it?
Wire wheel and a pad that attaches to the grinder that takes paint off metal. Works great. Just wear a mask or do it outside.
Look this up this is the closest thing I could find to that stove kit you where looking for ( Vogelzang Deluxe Barrel Stove Kit )
Thank you
Please show how you made the hot plate

How thick is the plate metal?

The old "S0TZ Mfg." kits were the best I've ever seen.
How much was kit
At that time they were about $46. Now they are running like 55-69 dollars
@@alaskahuntfishtrapadventures how you ever cooked in one
@@junkcarz4720 no. But have thought about creating something like that to cook in.
Paying $72 for a kit now a days. When I started over a year ago I was paying $47. Things sure have changed in the past year.

Rubbing my little finger over the mic. Sorry for making you annoyed. Only last a couple of minutes then I stop touching it. LOL
